Banned from Tinder

writergirl747474 · 09/01/2022 19:35

Well this is embarrassing. Tinder has banned me!

I have been on and off it for years. I am currently on holiday so changed my bio to "currently in X. Looking for younger guys for fun".

After several days of an embarrassing lack of luck I changed it to "currently in X. Looking for people to hang out with".

Had a few chats, nothing dodgy. No dodgy pics on my profile, all fully clothed, not even a bikini.

Tried to log in but am banned. I've emailed support but apparently there's no appeals process. Has this happened to anyone else and, if so, did you get back in your account?

There was a guy back home I'd been chatting to who I planned to meet on my return - would be a shame to lose the connection.

Did they not tell you what to you did?

ComtesseDeSpair · 09/01/2022 19:44

Tinder support is woeful, they won’t bother looking into it, particularly not if you’re a non-paying member. Your best bet is making a new account and hoping the algos match you again with the guy you wanted to meet.

But what an earth did you do?! You must have some idea. An immediate ban is pretty much only for accounts connected to illegal, fraudulent or hateful / violent activity or behaviour, they’ll give warnings first over e.g. inappropriate photos or even harassing behaviour and messages.

Pinkbonbon · 09/01/2022 19:49

Could someone spitefuly have reported your profile?

Or doe anyone else know your login?

writergirl747474 · 09/01/2022 20:18

I honestly didn't do anything! And no one knows my login.
And no warnings, just couldn't login then told I was banned.
There was one young guy I was chatting to who was keen to meet .... Too keen. He lived an expensive taxi ride away and was pushing to stay the night (before we'd even met). This put me off - so I stopped to replying to him. He could have spitefully reported my account?
Could they have thought I was fraudulent as I was suddenly thousands of miles away from home? Perfectly legit to go on holiday though?

They would have banned you for a reason, I don’t think someone reporting your account would mean tinder instantly ban surely they would contact you to check things out first

ComtesseDeSpair · 09/01/2022 20:23

In the absence of anything else, yes it’s possible he reported you as a fake account, either maliciously or because he’s genuinely entitled enough to think that the only reason anyone could have for not leaping at his offer is if they’re a scammer trying to hide it. Though I don’t know enough about Tinder to know whether they’re usually so heavy handed as to ban with just a single report.

thethreemuskateers · 09/01/2022 20:24

I’ve been banned aswell within 24 hours, I hadn’t even matched with anyone 😂

writergirl747474 · 09/01/2022 20:34

It's all really weird...and annoying.
No contact from Tinder...I just couldn't login.
Surely they could read the convo with the guy to see it was all legit? No numbers exchanged with him.
From looking online, it seems some people are banned and have no idea why. Odd.

Maybe someone reported you as being a sex worker or female sex tourist ?

“Promoting or advocating for commercial sexual services, human trafficking or other non-consensual sexual acts is strictly prohibited and will result in your account being banned from Tinder.”

God, do you really think so?
Bit much when there are so many men on there saying "I just want sex/fun".
It wasn't like I mentioned money.
Plus I saw a guy on there selling massages.
I suppose it could be that.... But you think they'd warn first or explain the reason?

OP posts:
writergirl747474 · 10/01/2022 00:06

Also I am not in Africa....

OP posts:
writergirl747474 · 10/01/2022 00:15

Oh that's weird. It's let me back in.
However all my messages and matches are listed in reverse....i.e. oldest first, not most recent. Does anyone know how to put it back to newest first (presuming I'm not kicked out again). Thanks..

I might just message the guy from home with my number in case I'm banned again....

No idea, but maybe somebody did think you were a sex worker trying to drum up some trade ?

I suppose tinder may that though your account had been hacked, if you were logging in from another country, is it normal to look for hook ups on holiday (apologies, I’m not a big Tinder user )

writergirl747474 · 10/01/2022 07:43

Well I'm on holiday alone - remote working - and could do with some company of any type. I guess solo travelers use tinder but I wouldn't be looking for dates if I was here with friends.

OP posts:
writergirl747474 · 10/01/2022 07:44

Also I really don't look like a sex worker!
My pictures are mainly sporty/outdoorsy, not much make up, no filters, no underwear/bikini shots....not particularly sexy (maybe where I'm going wrong! Ha)

@writergirl747474

Why would you say that?
BathroomBuffalo · 10/01/2022 07:49

I had the same thing with eBay - one evening I got an email saying I'd seriously violated their Terms of Service and was permanently banned with no way to appeal. I hadn't logged onto eBay in a month, and I only ever buy things, not sell! Then during the night, it let me back in and everything went back to normal. It must have been an error eBay made, though they didn't have the courtesy to contact me to apologize or explain!

So completely possible for you to have been banned for no reason.

furbabymama87 · 10/01/2022 07:59

Are you really good looking? I'm not saying I'm gorgeous or anything but I used to get guys saying they thought I was using pictures of a model off the Internet. Even my husband when he met me on there said he was wary at first. In actual fact, it was all me, except I actually was a model at the time. That was on Plenty of Fish though. The only other thing I can think is the younger guys thing. On some sites there are rules about the age gaps you can look for. For example if you're in your 50s, you won't be shown profiles of anyone under 34 ( can't remember what it was, just an example).

writergirl747474 · 10/01/2022 08:11

Re Africa
I was replying to a comment from Abbo552 which included a link to a story about sex tourism in Africa.

Not sure female sex tourism is a big thing here.

Ha ha. Not unfortunately I'm not ridiculously attractive. Plus all photos were holiday snaps, nothing professional. I didn't specify how young I wanted my men....but if Tinder wanted to limit age gaps it could just stop you searching for people below a certain age? Or not show them to you?
OP posts:
Santaisstilleatingmincepies · 10/01/2022 08:21

Maybe the word 'young' sparked an alarm? I had my gumtree account suspended when I advertised a fake fur coat. Meant to use faux... Said they don't accept 'copy' items for sale!!

Naughtyperson972 · 10/01/2022 08:29

Spite bans are a thing OP, it may well be that. You’ve interacted with someone and maybe not responded as they wanted or taken too long etc etc (something very petty), and they’ve reported you. Google it.

Abbo552 · 10/01/2022 09:02

Don’t forget that all the big SM platforms (and I know tinder is not really one), have all been publicly scrutinised in the last few years around keeping people safe only, removing dodgy content, removing fake accounts more quickly etc etc, I’m sure it was nothing personal, just some automated process the caught you.

furbabymama87 · 10/01/2022 09:44

I think the age thing only applies if you're entering in a false date of birth so the men you're seeing fall into your catchment. I know on Plenty of Fish there were some older men that did this.

HaggisBurger · 10/01/2022 09:52

I got banned from
Tinder 5 days in to it. I’d only chatted to two guys too - lone of whom is now my bf. The other one did get p*ssy with me because I wouldn’t drop everything and have a phone call with him. I think he made something up about me. I don’t know. Luckily I had met and exchanged numbers with the guy I am now seeing otherwise I’d never have found him again I don’t think 😢
