Rude "famous people"

We have a famous designer at my kid's school, born to a very wealthy family. Her kids are nice
She can be very unfriendly but inconsistently so - will often blank people one day and be friendly the next. Acts quite haughtily with the teachers. At times very abrupt.
She doesn't have to be friends with us civilians - that I fully understand. But what's with the rude behaviour? What's going on there? The school mums are a pretty innocuous bunch and I'd like to think we are friendly and welcoming.

@DrSbaitso

She's a wonderful writer, *@grapewine*, I still admire and respect her talent and read her books. She's just an unpleasant person.
Oh no, I've met her and she was lovely to me!
VladmirsPoutine · 09/10/2021 22:31

A friend had to interview a celeb about a cause they're connected to, the celeb wasn't able to talk about the cause in any coherent manner at all. Imagine if your cause was pasta bolognese but you appear to have never heard of pasta.

forgotmyusernamagain · 09/10/2021 22:32

I'm a nurse , work with a midwife who used to work in Essex
Not one but several "local celebrities " have delivered babies or had family members who delivered babies at her old hospital

Apparently LG was the worst visitor but GC not far behind

Two spring to mind from years ago… one was Mel Smith. I was in uni at the time and earned a bit of extra cash waitressing at the local races. He and a huge entourage took over half of the posh restaurant I was working in. Lots of shouting and loud laughter etc, drinks flowing and groping/ harassing the other young girls. Complained about everything and incessant and petty demands for hours. Didn’t even leave a tip at the end either.
Other was the young guy who used to play Des Barnes in Coronation Street in the 90’s. I used to have a huge crush on him and spotted him on the platform at Manchester station. As I watched him I saw a lovely old laugh walk up to him. She politely said ‘excuse me’ and asked for his autograph. He gave her the filthiest look, before looking her all the way up and down in the bitchiest way, like she was something stuck on his shoe. Then put his sunglasses on and turned his back to her. The poor lady looked so hurt and humiliated. Completely unnecessary and I went right off him after that

Holly Willoughby. No personal experience, a friends son worked in the studio and said it’s all show for the cameras. I was surprised! as seems genuine.
I’ve met her twice, once in a work capacity and another at a restaurant and she was completely lovely to everyone both times
MeredithGreyishblue · 09/10/2021 22:32

James Martin was an arrogant arse when I had the "pleasure" of having dinner in his company. About 15 years ago. Proper twat to be fair. I was quite disappointed

youvegottenminuteslynn · 09/10/2021 22:33

I just remembered another super rude one, who wasn't a big surprise as they're so huge and I imagine surrounded by sycophants but Bob Dylan. "I don't need to know her name" when introduced to me - I was working at the time on behalf of a charity connected to the concert. I laughed out loud as it was so next level rude! 😂

We had a celeb mother at one of my DC’s school, Davina McCall. I am mentioning her because it’s all positive. She was a bit insecure and I think wanted very much to be liked but she was lovely, and super kind and open. What wasn’t so lovely was that having a celeb in the school fucked up the dynamic and it was the behaviour of some other parents around her that was cringing to observe; falling over themselves to snuggle up to her. I think she found it quite embarrassing. It wasn’t great for one of her DC who was a nice kid but had too much social power, again because all the sharp elbowed parents were shoving their DC in her direction.

I was pretty happy when Davina left but not because of her but because it settled down a lot after she went and the flash set went back to being the everyday wankers they normally were instead of the star-struck super-wankers they became. Perhaps the parent you mention @acornfed is somewhat wary of people changing their behaviour around her?

I worked at a company years ago, overseas. We had visiting UK Gov Minister (now v controversial politician) He was such a delight (not) He was on a gluten free, no dairy, no blah blah diet. We had to import everything specifically for him at great expense. The first gala evening he delved into the canapés and announced ‘he would start his diet next week’!! Arse! Another Gov Minister (now v high profile In Gov) sent my PA out to buy her personal shit on her expenses!!

Hubblebubble100 · 09/10/2021 22:33

I’ve seen Alison Hammond being stopped by the public whilst having her eyebrows threaded. She was lovely and patient despite it being not the best place to speak to her!

Total opposite from a friend who drives her occasionally. Nicest celeb ever, lovely woman.
Frostine · 09/10/2021 22:38

@Elderflower14
@HollowTalk

She did indeed.

EmergencyPoncho · 09/10/2021 22:39

Really puzzled by the designer, is she a clothes designer?

acornfed · 09/10/2021 22:40

@YouokHun I think this seems right . Although if people changed behaviour round me I'd laugh it off and see the funny side. But then I am not a famous designer.

@Candleinthebreeze

One that amazes me is Marcus Rashford, I’ve met him many times and as a Man Utd fan who goes to every game, it pains me to say it that I wish I had never met him.

He has an amazing pr machine, and is a great actor in front of a camera. As soon as the camera is off he is a very different person in my many experiences with him, I know a lot of his close contacts and they all feel exactly the same way as me.

I agree with this. Had the misfortune to meet him a few times and he is an extremely rude and unpleasant person. Great PR team, as you say.

Kirsty Alsop?
Sparechange · 09/10/2021 22:41

Victoria Coren Mitchell

We were at the same wedding of a mutual friend, and another mutual friend introduced us and said we were both pregnant and due around the same time
She just said ‘oh’ and walked off

She also fiddled with her phone the whole way through the speeches..!

EmergencyPoncho · 09/10/2021 22:42

Oh thanks Forgot .

Terracedtardis · 09/10/2021 22:42

@LeanToGreen

Apparently Alison Hammond is really up herself and demanding. A friend met her whilst on holiday once.

I’ve met Alison Hammond a few times. She’s always been lovely, very friendly.

I’ve met her through work and she was very friendly and pleasant to everyone.
thefirstmrsrochester · 09/10/2021 22:42

My SIL was chalet staff in Morzine for Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet years ago, just before that ‘80s pop star reunion tour thing. Apparently was an egotistical ‘don’t you know who I am’ wanker. Treated the chalet staff like shit, moaned about everything, snapped his fingers at them etc.

forgotmyusernamagain · 09/10/2021 22:43

@EmergencyPoncho

Oh thanks Forgot .
Might be wrong .. but that's my guess
foxgoosefinch · 09/10/2021 22:44

Oh I forgot I had to take Michael Gove to dinner as part of a work obligation once (I am not a Tory voter by a long way!) This was a long time before Brexit and all of that shambles, possibly even before the 2010 election, I can’t remember exactly. He was charming and took care to seem like he was listening intently to everything you said, but everything he said was very superficial and seemed ever so slightly detached from reality. Funnily enough 😂

MadameMinimes · 09/10/2021 22:45

I used to know someone who’d worked with Holly Willoughby. She thought she was lovely and had only nice things to say about her. Apparently it’s an open secret that her TV exec husband is constantly shagging around though.

TReXX · 09/10/2021 22:45

I interviewed Jeremy Irons once.

He was horrible.

Puffalicious · 09/10/2021 22:46

Someone mentioned Kirsty Allsop: my cousin is a TV producer and worked with her for a full series. She is, indeed, petty, full of herself, demanding, superior, rude and pretty crap at her job.
