Rude "famous people"

We have a famous designer at my kid's school, born to a very wealthy family. Her kids are nice
She can be very unfriendly but inconsistently so - will often blank people one day and be friendly the next. Acts quite haughtily with the teachers. At times very abrupt.
She doesn't have to be friends with us civilians - that I fully understand. But what's with the rude behaviour? What's going on there? The school mums are a pretty innocuous bunch and I'd like to think we are friendly and welcoming.

Another lovely one - Donna Air. Absolutely gorgeous, completely down to earth, funny and brilliant with kids.

Rivermonsters · 09/10/2021 22:47

@SkiingIsHeaven what happened

Trisolaris · 09/10/2021 22:48

If I’m ever famous I will probably have a reputation like the sleb in the op. I have been accused of blanking people, truth is I don’t have good facial recognition and if I’m lost in my own thoughts or not expecting to see people I just . . . Don’t! Some people refuse to believe it though and are convinced I have a problem with them so not much I can do!

RussianSpy101 · 09/10/2021 22:48

We met Allison Hammond on holiday a few years ago and she was absolutely lovely.

Anthony Joshua - complete twat! Rude, arrogant and full of himself.

PurpleFlower1983 · 09/10/2021 22:49

Kevin Spacey was a bit of a dick when I met him, obviously turned out later that that was an understatement…

Quire · 09/10/2021 22:49

OP, I thought someone I knew from the school run and had talked to once in the local park was incredibly rude for blanking me subsequently every time I said hello. After months of thinking she was awful, someone told me she was very visually impaired.

ThePontiacBandit · 09/10/2021 22:50

@TheLittleRedToothbrush

Me thinks she may be in hotels too ? Anyway I nominate Phillip Schofield as the biggest arse I've ever met !
I’d classify him at the biggest arse I’ve never met! I was at an event as a kid (this was Early 90s so in his broom cupboard days). There were 8 kids there desperate to meet him. He refused to speak to us but agreed to sign something for us. What an arse! Couldn’t take / minutes out of his day to meet some kids.
spotcheck · 09/10/2021 22:51

A pp alluded to Kirstie Alsopp...?

meadowbleu · 09/10/2021 22:51

I'm really shocked and disappointed at the Marcus Rashford reveals. His PR is outstanding then.

Quire · 09/10/2021 22:52

Oh, and @DrSbaitso is absolutely right about Margaret Atwood, whom I met several times when I knew her daughter. It was kind of exhausting having someone do full-on grande dame over the breakfast table.

ddl1 · 09/10/2021 22:53

Bet the cabinet one is Anne-Marie Trevelyan

I had guessed Liz Truss! But there are really so many possibilities!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/10/2021 22:53

I once met an Irish singer (big in the 80s) who had been in a prominent UK advertising campaign for a brand of soap and I innocently asked her if she used that soap herself. I was a child at the time and it came from a point of inquisitiveness (i.e. is advertising pretending or a snapshot of real life) rather than trying to catch her out or shame her.

She was really flummoxed and clearly didn't know what to say - she just kept doing whatever the Irish female equivalent of 'Hugh Grant-ing' is. On reflection, I concluded that the answer was probably 'no' - and she knew it wouldn't be expedient to admit it, but that, as a devoutly religious person, she didn't want to tell an outright lie. Her husband (her manager) looked absolute daggers at me - before shouting "Of course she does!!!" Grin

BoredZelda · 09/10/2021 22:54

I had Marti Pellow kicked out of a bar I was working at. He was drunk and being really obnoxious to the other guests.

Another well known famous TV presenter shouted at two of my cleaning staff for walking in on her. She wasn’t supposed to be where she was and my staff had rung the bell but nobody answered. She was really fucking rude to them, they were just kids

But Simon Mayo was absolutely lovely.

blissfulllife · 09/10/2021 22:55

I'm not going to say who my celeb was. They at the time were in brookside the soap (if anyone remembers that lol). I was in a fertility clinic as I was donating my eggs. I'd had weeks of treatment, scans, injections etc and was there with my sister waiting to have my eggs retrieved. In she came and after seeing my sister and I in the waiting room insisted we were removed and then kicked up an almighty fuss when she was told no. This was before mobile phones and she screeched that she needed to use the phone, then proceeded to call the police for an apparent assault!!!!. By the time police came I'd had my sedative and was in recovery after having the procedure. The clinic refused to see her and the police she called escorted her out.

Kinda felt sorry for her she obviously wasn't in a good place emotionally and her partner seemed so disinterested.

forgotmyusernamagain · 09/10/2021 22:55

Paul Weller

Never met him but led to believe he's a bit of a knob

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/10/2021 22:56

Tom Baker. He was lovely.

Blinky21 · 09/10/2021 22:56

I have interviewed a few 'celebrities'. I found that generally the less famous they were the ruder they were.

SingaporeSling01 · 09/10/2021 22:57

We have a VERY famous TV / actor dad at my children’s school. Sunglasses on whatever the weather.

Same here! I will often remember absolutely everything about a person except what they look like.
YouokHun · 09/10/2021 22:57

@acornfed I like to think I’d laugh it off too. I think DMc was fully aware of it but discreet and tried to mix with lots of different parents not just the ones all over her. I think it must be quite wearing having people buzzing around you all the time. That said, it’s perfectly possible to keep distance but be consistently polite unless of course your celeb designer has decided that only the other high profile parent is worth being consistently polite to. I suppose DMc’s career is built on her personality whereas a designer doesn’t need to be personable in the same way; they just need to produce clothes no one can fit in to/afford (if you’re talking about a fashion designer)!

I’m trying to think of religiously-inclined Irish 80s singers who did soap ads!
youvegottenminuteslynn · 09/10/2021 22:58

Just thought of another unexpectedly lovely one - Russell Brand. I think I was lucky to work on a project he was involved with after he got clean and sober. He was very kind, eager to be helpful and actually told a Pervy guy from another agency to stop trying it on with one of my team because she was clearly uncomfortable.

PurpleEchoLamp · 09/10/2021 22:59

My Tumble is a bit of a nob, as is Andy from cbeebies.
Surprised to hear bad stuff about Alexander Armstrong, he was utterly lovely when we met him.

DrSbaitso · 09/10/2021 22:59

@GinUnicorn

I don’t know many horrible ones. I will say Victoria Beckham was absolutely lovely. Met her a few times due to work and was nervous as I assumed she would be awful.
Apparently she has a very dry and self-deprecating sense of humour...she certainly seems to in the interviews I've seen and read. Emma Bunton has said the same.
