What makes you swipe right?

hellcatspangle · 21/08/2021 15:27

Having enjoyed reading the previous thread about swiping left - what gets the swipe of approval on a dating app? I'm not dating but for me it would be

A neat beard
A big smile
A nice dog 😂

OP posts:
category12 · 25/08/2021 10:52

Clear pictures, decent bio, shared interests.

ArabellaRockerfella · 25/08/2021 11:20

I've been on the Apps for over a year and have not been on a date yet! I don't know if I'm being too picky or the men are just not making an effort to be appealing! I hate the sunglasses, gym pictures, stern glaring and the bio that says can't be bothered with this bit, any questions just ask!!!
So for me a swipe right would have;
Clean/smart appearance
A smile
A bio that mentions being content in life, friends and family.

ComtesseDeSpair · 25/08/2021 11:24

American or Russian
References Burning Man
Quick wit

Or that’s my dating pattern, anyway. More broadly, a considered bio (which isn’t just a list of favourite bands, countries travelled or hobbies; and an empty bio is an immediate left swipe regardless of photos), some humour I gel with, and being slim or muscular, fit and active.

paranoidorwhatif · 25/08/2021 11:25

Not dating at the moment either but...

Toned , strong forearms
A handsome face
Well fitting clothes
6' ++
A sense of the man being in search of a genuine relationship rather than a hook up/ FWB.
Casual interest in hobbies and past times rather than any obsessions that take up majority of his free time .

seensome · 25/08/2021 11:28

Picture of just themselves in a friendly approachable way, well dressed, clean and tidy looking with well groomed hair/beard job title, height, respectful bio's.

Pinkbonbon · 25/08/2021 11:31

Funily enough, beards and dogs tend to put me off xD. I like my men clean shaven and a dog would make me think 'at some point down the line are all the dog chores going to end up falling to me?'.

But a smile is always great. So I'm going to go with

Smile
Cleanshaven/tidy in general
Made a little effort to write a profile (one that sounds ok).

GooodMythicalMorning · 25/08/2021 11:32

Smiling, looking clean and tidy are the big ones.

tomatoplantproject · 25/08/2021 12:51

Smiling, clean, nice face, active, and they must write something legible about themselves.

They must also have something in their bio that makes me think they'll be ok with me having a child.

And they must live relatively nearby - I can't do LDR and I'm not interested in dropping everything for a gap yah to find myself.

justsayso · 25/08/2021 13:52
  • clear photos showing a range of activities/interests/that he is capable of socialising/leaving his room - I absolutely hate the pouty selfies (especially if they've applied a filter, cringe)
  • no manscaping/overly groomed eyebrows/lip fillers
  • shared interests
  • looking for a relationship not casual
  • no children (yet)
  • they they've taken the time to write something in their bio and its all spelt correctly
  • someone who appears to have some level of independence and autonomy (drives, job, house) etc
Sattherelikealemon · 25/08/2021 13:55

Tall, smile, well written, friendly bio with something interesting to go on= swipe right

Swipe left= smoker, negative comments about women 'no drama, no fakery' etc

SmidgenofaPigeon · 25/08/2021 13:58

Just looked normal and kind.

That’s honestly why I gave him a swipe. We’re married two and a half years with a baby on the way Grin

Swipe left- any ‘travelling’ photos that involve captive dolphins, drugged tigers or ‘rescued’ Asian elephants.

GooodMythicalMorning · 25/08/2021 15:46

Also for me he has to be 5'11 or taller as Im tall.

Getbehindme · 25/08/2021 15:46

A bit of humour, shared interests, a variety of photos. I like a rugged but reasonably well kept beard/facial hair. It's great hearing that others like the opposite, shows we're all individuals. I don't mind a bit of timber either.

Same. DP's main picture was just a selfie but I thought his eyes looked really kind. The rest of his photos were a nice mix of shots of him on nights out with friends, or doing hobbies, and a sneaky one of his cat. One of my pet hates came to be profiles solely consisting of selfies - always made me think that they were either married or had no mates to take a photo. DP's photos made him look sociable and friendly, with no daft poses (or fish, or tigers!)

His profile was just a little bit about himself and what he was looking for. Very honest and straightforward which is exactly what he turned out to be!

I got so jaded with OLD before meeting DP that I used to swipe right on the drugged tiger ones just so I could give them a proper telling off if we matched! Grin

This and a dog.
Getbehindme · 25/08/2021 16:49

What is 420?

category12 · 25/08/2021 16:53

This and a dog.

Nope, no dog for me, thank you. Grin I think we established this truth (for me) in the other thread. That's a left. Maybe I will pause if it's a well-behaved one, but if it's licking the face, swiiiiiiiipe. Grin.

category12 · 25/08/2021 16:53

@Getbehindme

What is 420?
Marijuana.
Getbehindme · 25/08/2021 17:02

Oh you learn something new every day!

Abhannmor · 25/08/2021 21:02

What is 'timber ' ?

Onedayatatime45 · 25/08/2021 21:19

Well my v recent ex wrote a lovely bio, great pics, and has quite frankly been amazing for the majority of our relationship. He wanted a future and all was going well. The he backtracked, seems it was all some game..5yrs..it hurts.
I don’t know what I’d look for now as if he can pull the wool over my eyes who do you trust?

bigbaggyeyes · 25/08/2021 21:30

A genuine smile
A straightforward bio

JustAnother0ldMan · 25/08/2021 21:53

@Abhannmor

What is 'timber ' ?
Generally means carrying a bit extra weight, often used to describe footballers or boxers towards the end of their career as in “carrying a bit of timber these days “
wobblywinelover · 25/08/2021 21:58

anything you post will give them clues, on a public forum, to mould themselves into Mr Irresistible so they can get their end away or continue to behave like total knobs on the internet

SarahBellam · 25/08/2021 22:25

Not posey, decent bio that includes a line on what he’s looking for - e.g. would like to meet an educated woman with an interest in crows (not literally - but it shows he’s willing to narrow the field to meet someone more suitable). Good spelling and grammar. It doesn’t have to be perfect but it has to be 90% of the way there. Someone who looks happy in themselves.
