Does anyone love their job and colleagues?

I have had a number of jobs over the years. Some good. Some bad. But in the past few years the people I’ve worked with have been particularly terrible. Bullies, power playing etc. I’ve been told this is normal in any workplace. Is this your experience as well?

My boss is amazing.

PiddleOfPuppies · 06/08/2021 19:14

I've had mixed experiences and have previously left a job after some bullying. I absolutely love my current role and genuinely look forward to going to work. My colleagues are mostly around my age and have either just arrived in the role or have been here for 10 years plus. We get on really nicely and any disagreements are resolved - the mix of personality types seems to be the right types. I know it won't take much change to tip the balance if people leave so I'm making the most of it for now.

Hekatestorch · 06/08/2021 19:18

I love my job, my boss and some of my colleagues.

My boss has tripled my wage on 3 years and even much believes on sharing the wealth he can also be dick on occasion. But he is normally a decent person.

My job is interesting and I meet interesting people. Most of my colleagues are great and we are still close despite wfh for so long.

However, there is a group if 4 or 5 colleagues who enjoy making people miserable.

Bit I can't say I have ever worked anywhere, where 100% of the people are amazing. Some are awful, some just aren't people I get on with. I think that's pretty normal.

I would say workplace bullying is common but not in every place

Finfintytint · 06/08/2021 19:22

Currently, I love my job and my colleagues. We’ve all returned to work after retirement for a temporary role ( Covid related) and we’re having a ball.

Strangelove89 · 06/08/2021 19:23

Omg this is great to hear. Which industry do you all work in? Maybe I need to move

I think the crux is that we’ve all got mortgages paid off, don’t need the work and we’re enjoying the extra income. We don’t tolerate any crap so it’s an enjoyable experience.

Stfutfu · 06/08/2021 19:28

There are many exceptions but I think in general, the higher you get up the ladder the more high functioning corporate sociopaths you come across and there fire encounter the other flying monkey / triangulatied / victimised other colleagues

PhotoGift · 06/08/2021 19:31

Absolutely love my job and my colleagues. They’re just an exceptional bunch of people- hardworking, dedicated, and great fun. It’s a high-pressure and stressful environment and we’re all well able to challenge each other, but in a good way.

Utterly adore my boss. If we had more like her, the world would be a better place; natural born leader, gets stuck in, uncompromisingly reasonable, tough, but fair. Also a great laugh and generous to a fault.

Lifeisshortandbitterswet · 06/08/2021 19:34

I work in end of life care, hours are horrendous, pay is appalling, but my colleagues are amazing, the support we've given each other especially the last 18 months has overwhelmed me.. We all really genuinely care about our residents too, it's lovely.

Onelifeonly · 06/08/2021 19:34

I work for the government (so to speak), so not a business or company. My boss is wonderful (best I've had) and colleagues supportive. Some irritate from time to time but no one is bullying anyone as far as I am aware. I love my job.

Rtmhwales · 06/08/2021 19:36

I absolutely love my bosses and colleagues but speaking to others in my position at different locations, it appears I'm lucky. We often have transfers over to us that can't believe how lovely the atmosphere is and how supported we are.

That said my main boss retired this year, the secondary boss moved into his position, and she's being replaced by someone new. Hopefully the dynamics don't change too much.

PhoboPhobia · 06/08/2021 19:37

I work in non clinical NHS and we have a pretty happy team that gets on well. We have got one person in our team who likes to play competitive business and is a bit of a martyr but we just don’t engage so she has mostly stopped. All in all I love it and they are lovely people.

MrsWorriedMother · 06/08/2021 19:41

Yes me. Have THE most amazing boss and THE most amazing colleagues and I love my job.
NHS so very unusual but truly blessed to work in a lovely team where I class most of them as my friends.

Pokske · 06/08/2021 19:45

I work for government (environmental and urbanistic issues) and love - absolutely love - my job. Most of my colleagues are nice people. My current boss is lovely.
My previous boss was an absolute lunatic with controlling tendencies bordering on stalking. I would not be surprised is she scored very high on an autism scale. Thank god the woman left ! Since then work is absolute bliss.

Jasmine11 · 06/08/2021 19:47

I do, I work in heritage and love the job and my colleagues. The pay is pretty rubbish though, but you can't have everything I suppose!

AnyFucker · 06/08/2021 19:47

I work for the NHS

Even with the horror that is COVID I still love my job and most of my colleagues are some of the best people I know

notacooldad · 06/08/2021 19:48

I love my job.
The manager and deputy are fantastic. It's a county council job in a
demanding role but both managers bend over backwards to support. They will cover your shift and do it themselves if you need to swop ( even if it is for a night out or something)
How they operate and treat staff and families we work with has long since filtered down the team and I'm part of a team that I love working with.
My colleagues wouldn't suit a lot of people on MN but when needed everyone of them has your back ( as has been proved many times)

blah3000 · 06/08/2021 19:49

Yes. I am a teacher. I have been in some schools where I have hated my job and cried on the way into work.

I absolutely LOVE my current school. Over the past 8 years, some of my colleagues have genuinely become my best friends and I socialise with them regularly. I would be tempted to delay career progression just so I can remain at the same school and happy.

HotAndGrumpy · 06/08/2021 19:49

I love my company, my job, my boss, and my colleagues.

My boss has given me 2 pay rises in 2 years and has just fought to get me the hours I want. I love my colleagues who are a mixture of young, middle age and older and they are all really interesting and fun. Our customers are nice too.

This is the only job I have had where I like it. Grin

Signoramarella · 06/08/2021 19:52

Absolutely love my job..love my colleagues. School t.a. here.

... amazing work environment. ! Teachers are the best people I've ever met.

Education is hard but the quality of staff is insurmountable.

Had previously done 15 years in private arts sector. Met loads of twats. Bullies, etc.

This is far the best. Moneys shit. But morale and kindness sky-high

Aww! I love my job. Everyone is delightful and making a positive contribution to the world. Does have its moments though and many of the contracts are short term and wages poor- above NMW but expect a degree and min 2 yrs experience so swings and roundabouts. People who are prepared to work in these conditions for the greater good are very nice.

DramaAlpaca · 06/08/2021 19:55

I love my job. I can't say I love my colleagues, but I like them all. They are a decent bunch of hardworking individuals and we get on very well.

wanderlove · 06/08/2021 19:55

@blah3000
I so recognise this! I’ve worked a terrible schools in the past and left teaching for a bit. I love my current school, students and colleagues. There is a culture of kindness from SLT down—towards staff and students. I don’t want to leave but there is no career progression. I’m considering side hustles so I can stay there and still
Feel
Like I am developing

ListenLinda · 06/08/2021 20:01

I do, I love my job I enjoy doing it and love my colleagues, we’re a mixed bunch but we all get on great.
I even like the members, they’re also a mixed bunch too but can have some good conversations.
