Does anyone love their job and colleagues?

I have had a number of jobs over the years. Some good. Some bad. But in the past few years the people I’ve worked with have been particularly terrible. Bullies, power playing etc. I’ve been told this is normal in any workplace. Is this your experience as well?

Love is a bit strong but yes there is a culture of largely great people in my firm and I get on well with all my colleagues and I do rate my job over leaving to go to another firm with more money but less nice people. I would be sad to leave my boss behind and the team I have built.

Imcatmum · 06/08/2021 22:50

Meeeeee! I've had wonderful workplaces and colleagues right from the start. 5 different companies. I've never felt anything but respected.

Plumtree391 · 06/08/2021 23:31

It does happen op, I had some bad work experiences when younger. I was quite shy and easily hurt too which didn't help.

Later on things improved and now retired I have great memories of work and colleagues.

You'll grow in confidence as life goes on.

PatsyClinSilVousPlait · 06/08/2021 23:33

Colleagues in my team are great, rest of the organisation a mixed bag.

Job itself is up and down, but working from home takes most of the sting out of the worst of it.

Don't trust the company (charity sector, big on values, etc) for a fucking second.

I love my job and my colleagues. When I arrive I relax as even if we have a bad day we're all in it together iyswim. Previous to this one I hated my job and would sit in the car park having to force myself to get out if the car and go in. I ticked off the days when I handed in my notice.

pourmeanotherglass · 07/08/2021 10:12

Ive been in the same NHS department for over 20 years, love the job, and currently like all of my colleagues. Some are good friends. We have had some difficult people come and go, either in our department or in departments we interact with, but there is no-one like that at the moment.

Phineyj · 07/08/2021 10:13

I'm a secondary school teacher and my colleagues are great -- Covid and the utter nightmare of the exam cancellations has brought us closer. The senior management are pretty good too. I am unlikely to change job, therefore, even though in careers terms I probably ought to move on.

Mermaidwaves · 07/08/2021 10:18

My job was amazing when I started 8 years ago, amazing, kind supportive team. Sadly most have retired since then and have been replaced with younger, harsher far less caring staff (health care) the atmosphere is very different.
Having said that I have made some really good friends there over the years and have never been bullied thankfully.

HomicidalPsychoJungleCat · 07/08/2021 10:22

I love my current job more than any Ive ever had. Its also the worst paid job I’ve ever had and barely pays the bills. Work is such a huge proportion of life that I make the sacrifice despite the fact it will probably led to an impoverished retirement. I just cant face the prospect of a miserable working life.

Dinkiedoo · 07/08/2021 15:56

I love my job and I love most of the team members but because of some others I am leaving
They are not my managers but they think they are . They are bitchy and cruel to other staff and I dont want to work in an atmosphere like that .
Dont get me wrong I know how to stick up for myself but to be with people like that every day is soul destroying

QueenBee52 · 07/08/2021 17:44

Yes and Yes 🌸

Chickoletta · 07/08/2021 17:48

I love my job and have wonderful colleagues. The person I work most closely with is my best friend and there are at least 10 other colleagues whom I’d class as very close friends - one is DD’s godmother. I’m in teaching and have always been lucky enough to work with brilliant people across 3 different schools.

Your workplace sounds horrible - you don’t have to put up with workplace bullying and nastiness.

Lurcherloves · 07/08/2021 19:03

Anyone like their job who is not in the NHS, school or civil service? It’s very telling that it’s mostly these sectors where people are happy at work

DramaAlpaca · 07/08/2021 19:34

@Lurcherloves I'm not in any of those sectors and I love my job.

Ragwort · 08/08/2021 04:27

Yes Lurcher, I love my job which is in charity retail. I genuinely enjoy going to work, I have a great bunch of people to work with, volunteers, so they don't have to be there, my boss is very laid back, in fact I rarely see her. The vast majority of my customers are lovely people and I love the knowledge that what I do raises money for a cause I truly believe in.

Lurcherloves · 08/08/2021 05:00

@DramaAlpaca what sector are you in

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 08/08/2021 05:15

I work in nhs administration and although we are very much looked down upon by the rest of the nhs, as a department in our hospital we are a very close knit happy department and I love going to work.

StressyWoman · 08/08/2021 05:30

Yes. Even my bosses are lovely and we are payed well for what the job is.

Windmillwhirl · 08/08/2021 06:04

Work in health service. I love my job. Narcissistic boss but incredible colleagues - I consider 2/3 not bad.

Oblomov21 · 08/08/2021 07:19

Yes. But it would seem that it is rare.
I've got 2 part time jobs, one of which I've had for 10 years, and they are really easy, nice.

But I've had a few not quite so nice. Many people don't like their jobs, and that's sad, so I try to encourage ds's to really think about this re careers and future jobs / employment for their next 45 years.

bigbaggyeyes · 08/08/2021 07:21

I'm really happy at work. My boss is great, there's a couple of people I work with that I really like and the rest are lovely. I also enjoy the job, although it does come with its stresses as any job does. However if I win the lottery I'd not go back to work
