To want to throttle neighbour's cat and neighbour!!

Helpme20 · 05/08/2021 14:24

My neighbour's cat spends her days on our cars. It has now left scratches on both our brand new cars - more mine than DH. I saw neighbour yesterday and mentioned about the cars and she just went 'oh naughty Simba'..and did a little laugh and walked off.
AIBU to say to her that she either keeps her cat away from my car or she can pay to sort out the scratched.

Bloody hell, I have a tube of TCut under my sink and a rag. Fancy paying me £200 to pop round and do it? (Will take 5 mins max.)

Helpme20 · 05/08/2021 17:18

Am sure it is an easy job..but DH is not DIY at all, he'll probably do more damage.

@HoobleDooble

One of my neighbours chucked a bucket of water over my nervous rescue cat for crossing his garden a couple of days after she'd plucked up the courage to venture out ... He didn't look quite so smug (or dry) after he answered my knock on his door and got the same back.
And then you stepped away from the keyboard.

Well done you at least gave me a laugh.

It may not be a paint issue.

It is more likely that the surface of the car is slippery (shape of car, wax or rain) and the cat puts its claws out so that it stops sliding.

muddyford · 05/08/2021 17:21

Our neighbour's cat scratched my car, but it was the tag on his collar and not his claws. My neighbour swears by Jeyes fluid to deter them and he loves his car, so perhaps worth a try. Check it won't damage the paintwork though, or you might be worse off. Tea bags soaked in it seem to keep them away.

T cut doesn't require DIY skills. Confused If you can put petrol / diesel into a car, pump up the tyres, fill the water etc then you can apply T cut.
paddlingon · 05/08/2021 17:28

If either of you can use a bottle of pledge polish in your house you can use t cut on your car. You could do this it doesn't have to be your DH.

I am really unclear what you think the neighbor is going to do?

When we how cat he was indoors only then a leash but that is very unusual in the UK and not required.

Do it yourself! Honestly, apply TCut stuff to rag, wipe it on the car surface. It's exactly the same as polishing furniture.

Ok so went to see neighbour. We do not know them well as they moved in about 9 months ago during Covid, so other than a hello, we haven't talked much.
I said that I spoke to a few friends and I was advised to come see her and see how we can get this sorted.I stayed outside because of Covid. She said and i quote:
'Simba has been a bit upset since we've got Meister 3 weeks ago, she never used to be like this. (Just realised Simba is a she).'
Apparently in their previous block of flats many tenants had cats, so no-one has ever complained. But here neighbours behind their house also mentioned it to them. Sje also said and I quote again
'Try throwing a bucket of water on her, it may work'. I smile and say ..'That's cruel isn't it?'. Her DH responds 'she'll be fine, she's a tough cookie'.
Then she proceeds to tell me she inherited the house. (Probably caught me looking at all the boxes..looks like they still living out of boxes..irrelevant to the post I know). I said that going to the dealers to assess damage nect week and again i get the 'oh and a little laugh'.
I walk away...realising I am now gonna have 2 cats and that I never heard a single word of apology Shock
Hope they sell and move away soon!!

On the plus side they are okay with you trying to chase cat off your property with water.

Following pp don't do this while they are on the car as the panic reaction could cause much worse damage.

Nobody in real life would do much with your complaint other than a water or similar suggestion.

Whatabambam · 05/08/2021 17:35

I think this post is more about your fanatical materialism. Jesus. Get a life.

An apology is what I was really after..am astounded that some people find it so hard to apologise. I would be mortified if that was me... the shrugging of the shoulders and the laugh is sooooo irritating 🤣

I have a "modest" daily hatch. It did indeed cost "tens of thousands of pounds". What do you think new cars cost?

I'd be really annoyed, but I don't know what can be done.

What would people expect if, say, a child damaged a car, is that just one of those things too or is that different?

ExpressDelivery · 05/08/2021 17:41

Sigh...family hatch

ExpressDelivery · 05/08/2021 17:43

Blimey, on MN people can get outraged about a child wanting to share a toy, but being concerned about damage to a new car makes you materialistic?

As much as the financial damage is annoying...I find her nonchalant attitude worse. I wouldn't be that bothered if she'd actually said sorry and offered to rectify. It may be covered by insurance anyway. So that's not the point.

Why should the owner apologise? There's no proof her cat has scratched the car.

Yeah exactly that.... working hard and owning nice things seems to make us bad people and be frowned upon

Well there is..as I said previously we can see it on our camera. And never once has she said it may not be her cat. Even she thinks it is her cat 🐈

Can he wash himself with a flannel or sponge? Pretty much the same action with T-Cut. Then go over it again with wax. Jobs a goodun.

You really don't need someone with the skills of Tommy Walsh (remember him?) to do it.

Wtf is wrong with some of you.

The cats scratched the car, why does the OP wanting some level of accountability from its owner make her materialistic?!

It's on footage it's the cat. The owner should pay for the damage!

Would everyone be OK if next door's kids scratched their brand new car with a scooter, even if it could t-cut out? No! You'd want at least an apology and you'd want it sorting!
