To want to throttle neighbour's cat and neighbour!!

My neighbour's cat spends her days on our cars. It has now left scratches on both our brand new cars - more mine than DH. I saw neighbour yesterday and mentioned about the cars and she just went 'oh naughty Simba'..and did a little laugh and walked off.
AIBU to say to her that she either keeps her cat away from my car or she can pay to sort out the scratched.

@Suzi888
Should that not be ‘pawage’

You could try a motion sensor water spray like this one... www.ebay.com.au/itm/384190466378

My neighbors car scratched my car bonnet and roof aswell. She used to sleep on my car at night. I started banging on the front window and scared the shit out of her every time I saw her in my front garden or near my car. Took about a week of doing this and now she won't step foot near my house.

I'd have no objections to a neighbour giving the cat a quick squirt with a water gun to put them off sitting on the car though, it doesn't do them any harm and usually does the trick

^Same here. I have 3 cats and that’s what I would suggest as a solution if one of my cats was scratching a neighbour’s car; I’d be mortified!

I’ve never known a cat to do that, though, in all my years of owning cats, so I’m really surprised to read about this happening. (I’m not saying it isn’t happening, just wondering whether there might be another explanation?)

Not going to get into the whole cat argument. But bastard crows have damaged my car - they’re evil buggers!

My biggest takeaway from this thread is that someone would pay someone else to T-cut their car! Love the justification of “he’s not good at diy”.

Also not sure why OP is still waiting to find out how much paint repair would cost, when they could try T-cut first for a minimal amount of money.

Because it may well be covered by insurance, it is easier and less hassle, some people just do not have the time..so many reasons... But thanks to everyone for your input and sensible suggestions and the judgemental ones as well...like my mother says 'we need all sorts to make the world ...'

I read a thread on how MN has changed over the years, I have only been here for a couple of years but can definitely echo what a lot of posters said about having some nasty judgemental people on here.
Not everyone has to agree on everything, i welcome difference of opinions and some people have disagreed with my post in a polite rational way...but only on MN you post about a cat scratching your car and the pick apart your post and comment on your lifestylen and whether your DH washes his own arse!!
Interesting to say the least!
Have a good day everyone Smile

!!??!

I must have missed this bit!?

I’m curious to see what damage it’s done. My neighbours cat sleeps on my bonnet all the the time especially if it’s warm and I’ve never noticed any marks on it. Is it deep scratches? Surely as other posters have said a 5 minute t cut will buff off any marks in exterior car paint as long as it’s not through the several layers of paint and presuming you’ve not got mufasa lying on your car.

I wouldn’t be delighted either if my car was scratched OP but seriously it’s easily rectified and along with a deterrent it shouldn’t happen again.

layladomino · 08/08/2021 11:18

Another one here who can confirm that cats can scratch cars. Our old pride and joy has been badly scratched by a cat that's taken to sleeping on it. Couldn't work out what was causing the scratches til we watched it stand up, stretch (all claws out) then climb all the way down the car with the claws out.

Free to roam - doesn't mean you aren't responsible for damage your cat causes. Cat owners have a duty of care and to take reasonable steps to ensure their cat doesn't cause damage. I would suggest at the very least they should feel bad and apologise if they do.

I would without doubt apoligse profusely if I found that my cat had caused some damage to someone else's property. Even if I couldn't do much about it I would be mortified.

It's up there with people who watch while their children run havoc in restaurants and expect other people to put up with them, or allow their 'soft as butter' dogs to harrass other people's dogs and small children and just gaze at them soppily while they create chaos.

Whilst it may be hard to avoid the scratching (other than trying what the cats owner has suggested), it feels like their resposne has inflamed the situation, as any decent person would at least have felt bad and apologised.

Furries · 08/08/2021 11:24

So it’s easier and less hassle for your car to be out of use whilst it’s being sprayed etc. Rather than spending 10 minutes with a cloth and moving your hand in a circular motion?

Am starting to agree with others, you are wanting to make this into a much bigger seal so that you can feel righteously indignant and angry.

Furries · 08/08/2021 11:25

*deal, not seal ! Although a seal probably wouldn’t leave scratch marks.

Sorry wrong link in previous post 😂

@Fancymice

I think get a cover for the car, as it sounds unlikely she will want to keep the cat inside because of this.

Surely the scratches are quite superficial? Tbh of you want to keep the car pristine you need to keep it under a cover or in a garage. You can't spend loads on a car, leave it parked outside then get pissed off when wear and tear happens.

Agreed.
