Anyone know anything about missed call notification?

Does anyone know how missed call notification comes up on iPhone from a One phone? Normally when I get a missed call from DH it says his name, followed by 'iPhone' on my phone. Recently got one stating his name followed by 'One'.

I had one this morning. Came up as phone notification them missed call from xyz. That’s was Android to iPhone. The new iOS has changed a few things, some insignificant and some hugely annoying- music app!

Doesn't it all depend on how you've saved their number? So I have a friend called Jess. I have two numbers saved for Jess, one under iPhone and one under home. So when she calls from iPhone it tells me 'missed call Jess iphone'
??

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 19/07/2021 10:34

What phone do you have OP? Is it an iPhone?

I've never had one say which make of phone someone was using!

It could be but I doubt it. Adding a new contact gives me the option of mobile, not iPhone specifically.

So in this (hopefully) attached pic you can see what label you can attach to a contact. No space for One phone unless you create a custom one I guess.
Unless the notification was just telling you the number of missed calls from that number? (clutching at straws?)

Yes it's an iPhone. It appears as a notification when my phone is on locked screen.

Just seen my phone does have the option to add a contact as iPhone so that's probably why it always usually comes up. Just can't think why it would come up 'One' if I haven't changed my contact details.

I have a horrible feeling he might be using two phones with the same number. Is this even possible?

OP posts:
Bargebill19 · 19/07/2021 10:52

Yea you can swap a sim or get multiple
sims for one number on O2.

Bargebill19 · 19/07/2021 10:54

There is always the possibility that it’s just a glitch with the software. Technology is just as flawed as the humans who program it.

twinkletwankle · 19/07/2021 10:56

I don't see the benefit of using the same number with two phones. That would mean swapping the sims out regularly.
If he went to the bother of having two phones surely two numbers would make sense and be easier to hide ??
Has he got previous for you to be suspicious?

twinkletwankle · 19/07/2021 11:01

Ah i didn't realise you could get multiple sims with the same number sorry.

Bargebill19 · 19/07/2021 11:01

The benefit of multiple sims with same number was that you could have a hardwired phone in the car and a mobile phone both with the same number. We did it so that dh always had a fully charged mobile phone when tramping and he didn’t have to swap a small sim in the dark in a cab. So he had two mobile phone one switched on and one off, when the first one ran out of power, he switched the other one on. That way he had a working phone for a week. Charging a phone on the go wasn’t as easy as it is today. ‘‘Twas a long time ago though.

Bargebill19 · 19/07/2021 11:02

That’s ok - it wasn’t/isn’t heavily advertised? As the same news probably isn’t there anymore. A bit like Betamax maybe ?!

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 19/07/2021 11:03

If he was using a second sim for nefarious purposes, it would make absolutely no sense for him to get one with the same number! You get a second number so that you never get unexpected texts or calls from your drug dealer or Mistress 😂

agoodtime · 19/07/2021 11:04

He has previous yeah but he 100% denied anything going on. About seven months ago he deleted her contact details entirely from his phone. I thought that might have been his way of erasing her from his life.
He might have just put her details on a phone he keeps at work instead. He goes into work unnecessarily sometimes IMO (he's self-employed). He knows I can check his location.

@Bargebill19 what is tramping, that involves a dark cab?
If it is a typo I just can't think what it is even meant to be Grin

Bargebill19 · 19/07/2021 11:08

My money is on something to do with the iOS system. A glitch or an update.
Agree with @EvenMoreFuriousVexation I can’t see a point in having two phones with the same number to be up to no good - there’s no benefit to it.

Isn't there a benefit in being able to pretend to be at work when you're not really there? He could leave the iPhone at work, go out and still be contactable on the other phone.

@NiceTwin.

Ha ah. Tramping is the term given to long distance lorry drivers who are away from home all week driving trucks. They don’t go home to sleep, they drive sleeper cabs - so have a bed in the gap behind the driver/passenger seats. Some have microwaves and fridges as well. They sleep and spend their rest time in their cabs.
Some drive abroad, catching the ferry or the tunnel twice a week, some stay within the UK all week.

Bargebill19 · 19/07/2021 11:15

@agoodtime. Hadn’t thought of that. It is possible. But the downside is that your phone may alert you (as per the original post) and then the games up. Easier and safer for him to have two separate phone numbers.
If he didn’t want to be tracked on an iPhone, he could just switch that function of and say he was in a dead zone.

agoodtime · 19/07/2021 11:20

If he's supposed to be at work where there is coverage then he couldnt say he's in a dead zone though.
I wouldn't have thought any calls he's making on a second phone would alert me because that never happens normally.

OP posts:
Bargebill19 · 19/07/2021 11:30

But you queries it coming up differently going from iPhone to one phone. If it is a second phone same sim - it’s made you think what’s going on, hence your post here.
I’m just trying to say that to have two phones with the same number has its own problems. If someone was up to no good, they would be better served by having a separate phone with a new number.

Bargebill19 · 19/07/2021 11:31

I do work at several sites where there are dead zones within the complex. Which can be ‘fun’.

agoodtime · 19/07/2021 11:35

What if it's not the same SIM? What if it's a different SIM which came with the second phone but there's a way of using just the one number?
I do agree with you that it makes more sense to have two entirely different phone and numbers though.
