How long was your engagement?

...before you were married?

We are now at three years.

We've had to cancel twice due to Covid and now registrars are almost impossible to book, especially as we're limited with dates (I work in education).

@harriethoyle

3 months here as well, and during the pandemic. OP, we used a celebrant who our hotel recommended. He was a retired minister. They also had loads of humanist celebrants. Have you looked into that instead of a registrar?
Where did you get married? In England you would need a humanist celebrant and a registrar.

Met October. First date February. Engaged June. Married February, 15 months after meeting

acupofteamakeseverythingbetter · 01/06/2021 08:25

3 years so far... but will be 4 years 4 months but the time we get married next year!

We were supposed to get married last year but couldn't for obvious reasons!

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 01/06/2021 08:25

15 months. Engaged in Feb, married the following June. 24 years next week.

SpringLoadedJizz · 01/06/2021 08:26

Just over 2 years, we had to save up and didn't want any debt from the wedding or honeymoon so it worked perfectly for us, especially when just after the wedding our car was written off and our washing machine and hoover both broke so we were able to replace them easily (although did end up with debt for payments for the new car because we'd used all the savings for the wedding.)

RolloTomassi · 01/06/2021 08:28

Iecydda · 01/06/2021 08:31

Thanks all. There's no hurry as second marriages for us both (we are old farts now!) and we have a one year-old together.
Ideally I think we should try to marry in the not-too-distant as all of our parents are getting older (my fiancé's parents are both 80 next year) but Covid is still "playing up" and has had a big impact on booking things so we shall see...

Yes, we need a registrar for it to be a legal marriage here in the UK.

What do you think about people like Vanessa Feltz who have been engaged since about 2006? What's the point?

We never got round to it but when Covid came along I just thought sod it and booked a registry office and a local sort of working men's club for a party. That was last September. My parents were 79 and 81 so I wanted to get on with it. Sadly my dad passed away the next month but he was over the moon we had made a date and my mum who's since turned 80 is really happy.
Charmatt · 01/06/2021 12:51

Dontletitbeyou · 01/06/2021 13:16

8 years . We moved abroad , had a lot of expenses . Neither of us were particularly caught up with timelines , so it took a while lol

PollyDarton1 · 01/06/2021 13:21

We've been together since Oct 2014 and got engaged May 2015. Fell pregnant in Jan 2016. Had DS September 2016. I had a mental breakdown in March 2018 but were just in the planning stages then, so we pushed it back. Was supposed to get married last year, then this year during lockdown 3, have pushed it back to April 2022.

Will have been together 7 years and engaged for 6 by the time we get married! Mental health, babies, mortgages and not wanting to get into debt for it put everything back - I got an inheritance a couple of months ago so now we can afford a bit more than we'd originally planned.
