How long was your engagement?

...before you were married?

We are now at three years.

We've had to cancel twice due to Covid and now registrars are almost impossible to book, especially as we're limited with dates (I work in education).

3 months. Not pregnant 1st in 4 generations on one side of my family NOT to be pregnant on wedding day Wink Lost count of how many relatives asked when the baby was due, she took nearly 6 years to show up Grin ex was army and he had a gap in deployments we wanted to take advantage of (he was very busy at this time) plus he'd just got a bonus through work so we decided to go for it (I paid too, about the same amount but I'm a saver he isn't)

I went on to work in the wedding industry...after the divorce! Grin

Now, looking back it was INSANE!

Big white Catholic chapel wedding, 150 at the chapel, no idea at the evening reception as it was an "all welcome" with his regt and my work colleagues (I was a nurse at the time) and people came and went depending on shifts etc bit odd but worked for us.

Plus we're both army brats too, so co-ordinating guests was...interesting! Best man only JUST made it in time! I think he dressed in the cab! Shock but then he had come a few thousand miles from a warzone!

Together for 4 years then engaged. Married one year after getting engaged. Now married 30 years.

sazzt · 01/06/2021 06:03

About 14 months. Engaged in March, married the year after in spring. Didn't want a hugely long engagement, but also wanted a chance of good weather and not to have to decide, plan and book everything straight away!

Mammyofasuperbaby · 01/06/2021 06:05

Engaged after 3 months together and married 5 years later but from planning to actually marry, to getting married was about 5 weeks.
The reason for the delay was 5 pregnancies, 2 premature babies, 3 life threatening illnesses, several surgeries and mental health problems.
We finally married last December when our children were 4.5 years and 4 months old

Together for 9 years then engaged for 12 months.
To my mind, an engagement is the time to start setting the date for the wedding. Otherwise it's pretty meaningless. I've many friends with broken engagements who never made it down the aisle. So promiesed someone they were going to spend the rest of their life with them, and then didn't even get to getting married!
Married 20 years this year.

Twizbe · 01/06/2021 06:46

10 months.

We had a church wedding though which gave us more flexibility on ceremony times and date (vicar only had one other wedding in the month we wanted)

We had to marry on a Friday to get the reception venue we wanted

MrsBungle · 01/06/2021 06:49

9 months

legalseagull · 01/06/2021 06:53

2 years. We needed time to save up

plixy · 01/06/2021 06:54

5 years. But we started dating at 17 and engaged at 19, so we knew we wouldn't get married quickly. We wanted to save for a house and the wedding.
Ended up getting married and buying a house at 24.

10 months, we got engaged in October and then planned the wedding for the summer holidays the following year.

Looking back the engagement period was kind of pointless as we had agreed we wanted to get married a while before we got engaged so the proposal was not a surprise at all and the wedding was always going to be in the summer holidays as I am a teacher.

Arrierttyclock · 01/06/2021 07:13

Engaged in the August and married the following November so 16 months ish

PandemicPalava · 01/06/2021 07:13
