Anyone had termination then successfully had pregnancy many years later?

I’m feeling sick about this. Termination in late twenties and now late thirties. I am worried that it means I won’t be able to get pregnant as it’s so many years later? I have been for scans and checks and told things look ok, no real comment. But I wonder if the termination maybe speeded up the time of fertility I would otherwise have had?

A termination shouldn't affect future fertility. Unless there were complications but you'd know about this.
I had a termination a few years ago and got pregnant 3 years later, this did end in miscarriage, however it's fairly common and not related to my termination. A year later I had my ds.

I think you'll find that terminations dont really make much difference, especially in the longterm. Unless any accidental damage was done at the time.

Hormonally...by that argument things like the pill and the morning after pill ect could also limited your time if fertility left. But I dont think they work that way. If anything for example, the pill helps prevent uterus cancer. Anyway, I digress lol.

Your age is more likely to be a limiting factor.

Dont beat yourself up. You did the right thing by yourself at the time.

Thank you @Lan2020 for replying. I think things were ok I didn’t have to take full tablets in the end just one and I forget the name and it just happened. It was like a normal period. I still worry though.

And because it’s been almost ten years I somehow got it in my head that it would speed up the decline of fertility or something. Thank you for replying.

@Umberellatheweatha thanks. I don’t know why I am suddenly obsessing over it. I guess I worried about pelvic inflammatory at the time though I was told I didn’t have it. I often wonder if I could suddenly get that randomly because of the termination but it’s probably my mind in panic mode.

Thanks for replying

I had one when I was 19. I'm now 31 and 34 weeks.

Had no issues.

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 15/05/2021 10:41

I had one at 19 too and went on to have 2 straightforward conceptions and pregnancies at 29 and 31. No issues at all from having a termination.

Wimpeyspread · 15/05/2021 12:34

I had a surgical termination at 22, then went on to have 4 healthy pregnancies (now adults).

interest12 · 15/05/2021 12:37

Sorry, but that's ridiculous. Sounds like some pro life lies

Alarae · 15/05/2021 12:43

I had a surgical termination at 21 and conceived first try at 27 after removal of the implant.

therearenogoodusernamesleft · 15/05/2021 12:44

Yep.

HeraNow · 15/05/2021 12:47

No issues

mrsed1987 · 15/05/2021 12:49

I had one at 19, had my son 2 years ago at 31 no issues and actually fell pregnant 2 months after coming off the pill that I'd been on since after the termination!

Whoscoatsthatjacket · 15/05/2021 12:51

My sister had 2 when she was younger and then went on to have 4 kids x

ChairmansReserve · 15/05/2021 12:51

Yes. Had a termination aged 16, had healthy pregnancies and babies in my 20s/30s.

scaredsadandstuck · 15/05/2021 12:54

I had one at 20. Got pregnant at 31 and again at 35. Kids are now 13 and 9.

summerdodododododo · 15/05/2021 12:57

I had a termination in 2013 and gave birth in 2020. Had fertility problems with getting pregnant but the PCOS symptoms I had weren't present when I got pregnant in 2013. Don't think the termination has anything to do with that though.

mummyh2016 · 15/05/2021 13:02

I had a termination (surgical) at 20 and had DD at 27.

sapnupuas · 15/05/2021 13:02

Termination at 17.

Had my first at 27, after a month of trying and two months after coming off contraception. Currently pregnant with my second, and we weren't trying. In fact we had sex once that month!

I had the same worries as you.

AdriannaP · 15/05/2021 13:07

Not me but my SIL.

Termination in her 20ies, had her first baby at 39, another pregnancy at 40 (ended in MC), now nearly 42 and due another baby in 2 weeks.

namedchangedforthisone · 15/05/2021 13:11

Yes i had one at 23 and had my DS at 30. Conceived quickly no issues, can't say I didn't have a little wonder how it would have been previously when i was in labour but it didn't take me long to realise I'd made the right decision

mindutopia · 15/05/2021 13:18

I haven't had a termination, but I did have surgical management for a pregnancy that was not viable (missed miscarriage), which is from a surgical perspective, the same thing. It was a planned and much wanted pregnancy and I was pregnant again 6 weeks later. I was 36 at the time. Very straightforward pregnancy. There can, of course, be complications of surgical terminations, which can cause issues with fertility, but they are the exception rather than the rule. Most people who want to go on to have no issues.

Abouttimemum · 15/05/2021 13:36

Not the same but I had a termination at 36 and then gave birth at 38. No medics seemed to think an abortion would make any difference at all.
Although the placenta attached itself to scar tissue which is a whole other dramatic story ha.

WellQualifiedToRepresentTheLBC · 15/05/2021 15:41

I had a very traumatic surgical termination in my teens, then went on the pill, and conceived at 29 on the first shot basically.

I also was really scared. Its normal and natural to be worried, terminations carry so much baggage and you're always wondering if the universe is going to punish you in some way. Sending you love x

SecretWitch · 15/05/2021 15:44

I had my first termination at age 21. I had two children in my thirties. I had another termination at age 39. I give birth to my third child at age 42. Abortion done with competent medical care should have no effect on your future ability to conceive and carry to term.

PennyDreadful66 · 15/05/2021 15:45

I had a termination at 20 and had a baby at 26, it didn't affect my fertility.
