Basically that..

How often do you and your other half speak in the day?

Taking into consideration work and other responsibilities, do you talk often?

Just needed some insight as to whether im expecting too much haha

When we both went out to work we would only text or call in an emergency.

Bibidy · 10/05/2021 16:37

Prior to living together we used to text on and off all day. Not constantly but every couple of hours or so.

Now we live together we feel less need, so might send one text during the day if my DP is out of the house at work.

That said though, we are both in office/computer-based jobs and sounds like your DP is doing actual manual work, so I can totally understand why he might not get the chance to text often when he's at work.

Luckyelephant1 · 10/05/2021 16:38

A few messages here and there and perhaps a call every now and then. Messages vary between practical stuff (what shall we eat tonight, I'll be late home etc) or just general chitchat/love you type stuff but it's not an expectation every day. Today we've not exchanged any messages but that's fine.

When we were both WFH for a bit we'd each see each other every hour or two between meetings eg to make each other a cup of tea or snack and have a little kiss and usually a moan about work or something lol.

LubaLuca · 10/05/2021 16:38

Not at all during the working day, unless there's something that really can't wait. We've been together for so long that we pre-date mobile phones, so we have never had a routine of frequent check-ins.

Summertime21 · 10/05/2021 16:39

Never unless it's an emergency, i would be annoyed if a colleague constantly stops work to send pointless texts so I wouldn't do it myself

LawrenceChaney22 · 10/05/2021 16:39

Barely ever really, both live with our parents and have different work patterns, the odd text here and there.

Tbh he isn't the biggest texter, only if he needs something, we are planning on seeing each other or just random twitter things he sees...not sure if thats down to being together for nearly 8 years or not ! I would like it to be a bit more...

BonnyEm · 10/05/2021 16:40

When he's at work He'll send a quick text at morning break to ask how dc are as he leaves home at 7am.
And ring me for a quick 5 mins chat at lunchtime.
If anything else occurs I ring or text him anyway. He has his phone on him at work and is usually able to take my calls.

bellsbuss · 10/05/2021 16:40

We prob speak 2-3 times a day and message about 5 times.

starbrightstarlight8888 · 10/05/2021 16:41

Only if its something that must be said then, like asking to pick something up on way home etc.
What do you message about if you're chatting throughout the day?

Vicliz24 · 10/05/2021 16:42

Never unless there's something urgent . We're working.

Xztop · 10/05/2021 16:42

Never.

I saw enough of him at home, lol

JorisBonson · 10/05/2021 16:44

Only if we have something specific to say. We're both busy.

NeedCoffeeToSurvive · 10/05/2021 16:44

Some days we're on separate floors and only communicate by occasionally yelling up the stairs that one of us has made a cup of tea and other days we follow each other around the house with incessant babbling about absolute crap, it varies day to day.

DanglingMod · 10/05/2021 16:45

Never. I'm working. Never worked in a job where it was acceptable to either have your phone out or had any free time.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/05/2021 16:46

Not at all, usually.

He works away and I am self employed. We both do stuff that is difficult to interrupt.

We may text if one of us needs to shop on the way home.

If he is away he calls when he is free - he is the one doing the work that could be dangerous, so I never, ever call him.

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 10/05/2021 16:49

Not at all. Did used to phone at lunch if I'd gone for a walk and thought she might be home, but that didn't last long

BigusBumus · 10/05/2021 16:50

We work together running a business so speak mainly for work reasons, about 10 times a day. Those calls last perhaps 30 seconds to a minute. However I call him or he calls me for just a chat about twice a day as well, for a few minutes.

I WFH and he is out and about, but he usually pops back for breakfast or to use the loo or something as well during the day.

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 10/05/2021 16:53

@mae2014

Aww yeah texting the odd time to me is what i think is normal.

My partner is in trades and ive always battled with the little communication as he's always busy! Wasnt sure if i was expecting too much haha!

My DP is a tradie and it just depends what he’s doing. It’s a physical job so it can’t be expected he stop what he’s doing to answer “hey how are you” texts all the time. He’ll usually message on his lunch and sometime on his designated break times but if he doesn’t I don’t usually notice, he’s constantly on the go so half an hour to get some food in or a cuppa is better spent than messaging me imo.
Lucia574 · 10/05/2021 16:55

Not at all. We both work full time in busy jobs. We have breakfast together then no more communication until both in from work, unless something important comes up.

WaitingForNormality · 10/05/2021 16:57

DH is a teacher so no access to phone except during lunch/after school. We send a few whatsapps during the day, and DH responds as and when he can. Unusual for us not to message at all in a normal day, but we rarely have full blown text conversations either. Generally its mundane family stuff 'what do you want for dinner'/'can you grab some milk on the way home'/'I'll get DS from afterschool club tonight'

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 10/05/2021 16:58

If there's something funny that can be sent as a photo message, we'll do that, but other than 'Amazon reckons that they're delivering between 3 and 5, can you make sure you haven't got your headphones on, please?' and 'can you pick up some teabags/takeaway on your way back?' if we talked or texted during the day, we'd have nothing to say to one another by the time we were both in the house.

IsAnybodyListening · 10/05/2021 16:59

We both WFH. Generally only ask each other if we want a coffee throughout the day.

Will talk in evenings though...

GodolphinHorne · 10/05/2021 17:04

Pretty much not at all during the day. We both WFH so might have a quick chat if we meet beside the kettle.

It’s only an issue if one of you likes more contact and the other less. It took me a while to realise that I just wasn’t going to get constant jokes and chat from my partner. He can’t see the point. I would still prefer more communication but I’m not going to get it.

QuidcoQueen · 10/05/2021 17:05

We both work away from home, both in jobs that you can't always get to your phone.

So our messages are info only: leaving, start tea, get milk etc.

We never have been people who have to stay in contact a lot. I find it claustrophobic. Luckily he is the same.

OldFirstTimeMum · 10/05/2021 17:13

On days he's at work (I'm on Mat leave) we chat over coffee in the morning and as he gets dressed. we message each other two or three times in the day. When he gets home we chat over our evening meal and on and off through the evening. We chat in bed before sleeping.
Weekends we do our separate stuff and chat inbetween. meet for coffee mid morning etc. Either at home or go out for coffee. We like each other's company!
