Why does my partner get eczema around me

Hi all. Very random topic! I've been on and off with my partner for 4 years now. It's strange but when my partner and I get back together he gets eczema flare up. When we are on a break it clears up. And within a week of getting back together again, it flares up again. We've been trying to think what it could be but have no idea. Maybe I just stress him out?😂

Do you have a cat?

LannieDuck · 22/02/2021 18:54

I have an intolerance to some fragrances - in things like shampoo, household cleaning sprays etc. Is it possible he's getting exposed to something in your house / that you wear (e.g. perfume) that he wouldn't normally?

Suzi888 · 22/02/2021 18:57

Cat, perfume, dog, rabbit, pet, detergent, spray ...

ShulamithFirestone · 22/02/2021 19:04

Why are you splitting up and getting back together so much? Maybe the stress of it is giving him flare ups.

salsadipp · 22/02/2021 19:06

It might be washing powder but I really don't think it is. I don't have any animals. And I have changed my perfume since our last break and it's still happening.

Hard water in your taps?

Relationship sounds a bit doomed either way tbh.

salsadipp · 22/02/2021 19:07

@ShulamithFirestone I'd have imagined he'd have been more stressed during the break. He always wanted me back. Yet that's when it would calm down. I don't know aha

Perfume full stop, probably.

IndecentFeminist · 22/02/2021 19:16

Washing powder

RedLlama · 22/02/2021 19:20

I was very allergic to something at my ex’s house, never did figure out what it was

SoddingWeddings · 22/02/2021 19:23

For me it's different washing products. If my hands are a mess, it's washing up liquid and hand soap. If it's my legs, it's the clothes washing powder or softener.

Where does he get flares on his body?

tropicalwaterdiver · 22/02/2021 19:25

It might be anything actually... food, drinks, detergent, candles, soap, shower gel and so on.

Aquamarine1029 · 22/02/2021 19:26

Stress. All this taking a break nonsense doesn't bode well, does it?

Guidebutton · 22/02/2021 19:27

I think it probably is the stress. Who/what is the driver between such frequent splits?

RaininSummer · 22/02/2021 19:28

I think it probably is a stress reaction. I used to flare up whenever my ex partner was due back from working away.

Eckhart · 22/02/2021 19:32

But he's wanted you back before and you've ended up splitting up again.

You're essentially asking 'why does my partner's eczema flare up when he's at highest risk of traumatic heartbreak?', or 'why does my partner's eczema flare up when he's in a relationship with someone he finds it too difficult to stay with', depending on who it is that keeps leaving the other.

MissSmiley · 22/02/2021 19:32

Where is his eczema? On his hands by any chance?

Palavah · 22/02/2021 19:33

Most likely to be:
washing powder (not sure why you don't think it's that)
nail varnish,
perfume (doesn't matter that youve changed it as eczema can come and go with other factors),
Soap/shower gel etc at your house
hand cream,
Face cream,
hair products,

DimidDavilby · 22/02/2021 19:33

Could be any perfume

Guidebutton · 22/02/2021 19:40

So when you're together he's in a constant state of anxiety waiting for the next break up?

Guidebutton · 22/02/2021 19:42

You're making him ill OP and you seem to find it amusing.

bubs765 · 22/02/2021 19:42

The different type of smell of the perfume won't have an affect on his eczema, it's the fact you're wearing perfume! Try using non bio washing powder, don't know how you could know for sure it's not that

bubs765 · 22/02/2021 19:44

@Guidebutton bit dramatic? She didn't ask for either of these opinions, this thread is about eczema

Guidebutton · 22/02/2021 19:45

A (male) friend of mine had his running away fund rumbled when his wife opened a bank statement. That doesn't happen if all the accounts are on line.

Cuddling57 · 22/02/2021 19:45

What are everyone's suggestions for washing powder, hand soap etc
