Anybody else hate Zoom/video chat??

I think I'm in the minority on this and that people would think I'm a weirdo if I said I didn't want to do a video call.

I have a few friends who I haven't seen much over the past year due to lockdown. We have a WhatsApp group chat that we write in everyday and I find this a great way to keep in touch. However, they've now proposed the idea of Zoom drinks party tonight and I'm absolutely dreading it. The thought of it is putting me in a bad mood.

Am I the only one who is like this (probably)? I'm very shy and an introvert and this sort of thing doesn't appeal to me at all.

To those who hate them, any advice for turning them down without potentially ruining the friendship when we are allowed into the real world again? I have tried to force myself to participate but lately I am afraid I have resorted to turning my phone off under the guise of "network issues"...

To people I'm closer to and who know I suffer from anxiety I just say it's really not my thing or that I'm not in the mood for it at the minute.

I too struggle to know what to say to other people about why I don't want to go on video. I don't want them to think I'm a complete weirdo.

I hate zoom or equivalent, makes me feel too self conscious. Dont like face time either.

I'm the most extroverted among all of my friends and colleagues or acquaintances. But fuck me no. I do not want to look at myself on zoom. Maybe there's a way where you don't have to see yourself, if there is, I haven't found it. Zoom is shite. It's not real life.

You don't walk into a pub with a mirror held in front of yourself. It's not fucking normal. I'm bad enough with full makeup on, but I haven't put makeup on in a year now. I look like shit. I hate having to look at myself. In real life you don't be looking at yourself? It's weird! I now know that I tilt my head to one side, tend to fidget etc. I don't need to know that shit! In normality, I'm fucking normal.
