Gut feelings??

Tell me a time when your gut told you some thing was "off"... but you had no proof - and yet your gut was right all along!!

Erm...just that. I met what seemed like the ideal man but he seemed to be very shy and it took us ages to get together. After 2 very good years in a relationship, I found out that he was cheating and had had a girlfriend in a ldr all the rest of the time I had thought he was single (and was likely messing around as well). Once we split, other people then told me about further instances he had been with other women when he was supposed to have been in a relationship with me (it was a long distance relationship). The person he revealed him to be once we did split due to his cheating and the things he said to me is something I would not wish anyone to ever have to hear in their life.

I always had this strange feeling that there was something off about him but he was very charismatic and good looking, so I deliberately forced myself to ignore my fears and told myself I was being silly...only to be proved right all along.

My gut instinct was perfect.

When my ex H was having an affair and I asked him and he lied. I found out after it had ended .

spidermomma · 24/01/2021 20:08

Gut is always right
Oh was been extremely nice but cagey around his mobile but also very snappy if he was bothered or asked if kids could use his phone or something, also I noticed he was always taking photoes of kids and wanting to do things with them.

Turned out he was all over social media behind my back and was messaging girls with pics of my kids 🤬
Only found out when he came home from the pub one night and he's gone the loo. I just clicked to see the time and loads of social media notifications came up, his tea went over his head aswel as his phone!!

My gut instincts are always right and I never, ever ignore them. My dad drilled this into me from when I was a small child. He always said, "If something feels wrong, that's because it is."

losingtheplotslowly · 24/01/2021 20:37

@fraggle500 my gut is always right. Last year someone I had feelings for (and he knew) lied to me for months. He had started seeing someone. My gut told me that this was the case for a few months however I found out through someone else. Always always listen to your gut!

fraggle500 · 24/01/2021 21:23

I'm so
Sorry these things have had to happen to you all - but I'm a true believer in going with your gut feeling!!
Sometimes you don't know why - but it just feels wrong- I've had so many gut feelings over the years and never once have I been wrong ( sadly)

I was once in a train with my sister going to a wedding- all of a sudden it was like a bolt went through me and I knew my then Fiancé had another women in my house - it came out of nowhere... days later my friend asked me why I hadn't gone to the wedding. I replied I did ... she said oh i thought I saw your DF and you in the front room window watching TV - I confronted him and he of course lied but the truth eventually came out! 🤬

@fraggle500 I always get told I’m an over thinker too. But have never been proven wrong. Your gut is your best friend. Mainly the bearer of bad news. Well in my case anyway.

But on a side thing years and years ago my main group of friends I used to hang out with two of the people started seeing each other. No one knew as the guy was seeing someone else at the time. Anyway I don’t know what it was but about a week before I found out (they decided to confide in me for some reason) my gut just told me something was going on between them. A very unlikely pairing as well so when they did tell me I wasn’t phased one bit as I just knew.

booboo24 · 24/01/2021 21:46

This always worries me as my "gut" is so persistent, but ALL the Time. My problem is I suffer with GAD and obsessiobal thinking so the number of times I've tried googling how the hell you tell one apart from the other is insane!

Lollyneenah · 24/01/2021 21:48

Yes- I had a bit feeling my ex was having a full affair and called his bluff by saying a close friend of his had come clean about it. There was about 8 seconds of silence and he started blabbing about how she was nothing, didn't love her blah blah blah

Themanofmydreams · 24/01/2021 21:54

Does anyone have any positive gut feeling stories? Like you just knew somebody liked you and it turned out they did?

fraggle500 · 24/01/2021 22:10

@losingtheplotslowly
That's the other thing - when you just have a feeling and it can be about other people it doesn't come as a shock. I remember my first day at work years ago and was introduced to a young girl, never clapped eyes on her before and I just had a feeling her husband was having an affair- 6 months later he ran off with another women!

@Lollyneenah
Did you leave him?

@Themanofmydreams
Oh I'd love to hear the good stories!

@booboo24
I'd love to know the answer- I just can't switch it off - I wish I could just enjoy what's happening rather than always thinking and picking up on things - it's exhausting!

How depressing - it's all about affairs on this thread.

I'm with the poster who was hoping for stories when you someone was interested in you / or that you should go for it with someone.

ItisLikethis · 25/01/2021 18:24

My gut told me he was a player. Immature and emotionally stunted. For months I brushed these twinges of disappointment/suspicion I had had aside, foolishly choosing to focus only on the good. He ended up being a monster. Lesson learned!

ItisLikethis · 25/01/2021 18:25

@fraggle500 Yep. That's how I felt. Exhausted.

ALittleBitConfused1 · 25/01/2021 19:34

It would be quicker to tell you when my gut wasn't right. Instincts are there to warn us, whenever I've ignored mine I've paid the price.

IJustWantSomeBees · 28/01/2021 19:29

Has anyone here read The Gift of Fear - very good book on how important (and usually correct) gut instincts are.

My gut told me that a guy I was dating was only planning to use me for sex as soon as he arrived to pick me up from the station. Just something about the look in his eyes as he approached me. I still went to his house because I felt impolite leaving suddenly when I had agreed to go to his house for dinner, and sure enough he just used me for sex. It sucks, more so that I didn't listen to myself than that he turned out to be a user. I'll never go with a guy again if my gut gives me ANY inclination that there's something off.

fraggle500 · 28/01/2021 21:07

@IJustWantSomeBees
Oh I'll take a look at that - so sorry that happened to you - it's a totally rubbish feeling
