Tracking me or paranoid

How would someone track my location from my phone without me knowing? Would there not need to be an app on my phone or something? How would I check? Also could it still work if location was turned off on my phone?

My partner knew where I was when I hadn't told him and I can't think how else he would know. I was at the hospital which I think is the only reason he 'blew his cover' because he was worried I guess and wanted to know what was going on.

He wont tell me how he knew I was there. I have told him to F off and I'm not prepared to speak to him until he tells me. If it's an innocent reason then why wouldn't he just say?

If he is tracking me I really don't understand why. We are kind of having a break right now (we don't live together) But even so, I don't really have much of a life outside being a Mum and he knows this. I very rarely have a night out etc unless it's with him and obviously I'm not going anywhere right now in lockdown.
I don't understand why he would have such trust issues to go and do that. Its really freaked me out :(

There are all sorts of tracker apps that wouldnt necessarily appear as an app on your phone but hidden away.

Check the apps under settings and see if there are any you dont recognise.

Has he had access to your phone at any time to be able to do that?

If you have a car and drive to the hospital he may have put a tracker on your car.

He sounds like a nightmare, get rid permanently.
I assume there are other issues otherwise you wouldnt be on a break?

If you have an iPhone there is one built in called find my. It allows you to track lost or stolen apple products. My husband and I have access to see each other’s.

Thanks. I've had a look in apps and cant see anything. Its not an iPhone, its Samsung. I guess it could be a tracker on my car, I'd not really thought about that. Makes me sick to think of him going to the effort of buying a tracker and installing it etc just to spy on me.

If you have google maps app, check the settings and see if 'share my location' is turned on? I use this with my husband occasionally where I share my location with him for an hour or so but I think you can turn it on permanently, you just have to send a link to someone.

Buying a tracker. Can you check an Amazon account or Ebay? I gather some people have joint accounts on Amazon. Is this a possibility for you?

Samsung have a find my phone feature too. Could he be accessing your Samsung/Google account.

As pp said check your app list on your phone settings incase he's installed one.

Id say phone tracking is far more likely than tracking your car

He's obviously done something either with your phone or conceivably the car to know where you were. You are not being paranoid. Check if there is a location setting set to share yours on the phone, as others have suggested. Does he have any background in security? I would also see if a garage can check for a tracker. If one is open.

The phone is more likely but the car not inconceivable.

His ‘trust’ issues are not your problem. Make the break permanent and make sure that google, apps and or social media are not giving out your location.

He's probably got some sort of location services turned on your phone, set up to ping him or alert him of your location. Most people use it for their kids.

If you use Google on your phone (it's android so you have to) you will have a Google account and therefore if he knows your gmail or has a device you've used/are logged in on he can see everything you do on Google/your phone - web searches, app use, calls, Assistant use etc - as well as your Timeline - where you went when.

It's good you don't live together. Is he the father of your DC, if not it's easier to leave him.

It does sound like he’s probably used a find my phone type feature but there are more subtle “stalking” apps which can be used. There are also agencies you can access who will look at your phone for you to see if there is any software on there that enables you to be tracked. The one in brighton is called veritas but depending on where you live the local domestic abuse charity or police should be able to point you in the right direction. I’d get your phone checked.

Facebook and snapchat also have settings where you can share your location

Does he know your AppStore passwords?

There is a possibility someone saw me and told him. But then why not just tell me that?
I've not really spoken to him properly about it yet. I asked how he new and he wouldn't answer. Just turned it back on me about why I didn't tell I was there. So there is a chance it is all innocent.
But why do we live in a world where it's so easy to stalk someone's life like that. He's probably even reading this right now!
I've turned off location and tried to log out of Google on stuff. Maybe I can reset my phone or something. I do not have the headspace for this shit right now.

There are a fair amount of apps that can secretly be installed if he has access to your phone . You just have to google how to track my spouse etc , and there are loads of different ways . I know this from a friend who was in the same situation a while back , but on the opposite side ,ie wanted to track her husband .
He should just tell you how he knew your location . Why hide it if it’s innocent . Can you get someone who is very tech savvy to look at your phone , they might be able to tell you one way or another .

You could always test him. Let the dust settle for a few days, then go somewhere far off where you wouldn’t normally go, and leave your phone at home. Then see if he raises it in conversation or steers the conversation in the direction of what you were doing that day and where you had been. If he is tracking your car and not your phone then you’ll have a good idea.

Thanks everyone for your replies. He has now told me. Partly my fault for not realising. I got a new car a few months ago and there is an app you can download (car manufacturer app) that links to your car so you can unlock it with your phone without a key and stuff and it also shows the location of your car. He was with me when I picked up my car and the sales guy was talking about the app. I was vaguely aware he installed it on his phone but stupidly wasnt really aware of what it did etc and had pretty much forgotten all about it.

So why couldn’t he have just told you in the first place. Prick.

So he is stalking you but disguising it as a valid reason.

Why we he need the app to unlock your car unless it is his car as well.

I would be downnloading the app myself and getting the car details on my own app.
