New boyfriend and conspiracy theories

A guy I have been seeing for a few months now has made a few comments that are starting to make me think he may have mental health issues.
At first it was the odd comment about JFK being assassinated by the CIA and other popular conspiracy theories and I didn't think too much about it.
The past few weeks however the theories he talks about are becoming more and more outlandish. Illuminati and free masons controlling the world, Hitler saving Europe from being taken over by Muslims, 9/11 an inside job and on and on. He believes in these things 100 percent and thinks the people who dont just haven't been enlightened yet. He thinks he is destined to take over the world and is very sure of himself.
At first I would counter his arguments with rational discussion but he would become so passionate and upset that now I just ignore and try to zone it out.
He smokes weed every day and I think this must be connected but I dont know as I have never tried it.
When he is "normal" he is loving, funny and caring but this part of him is making me avoid meeting him.

So basically, he is nuts.
OP he sounds like a narcissistic megalomaniac.

Run for the hills.
You've only been seeing him a few months, cut your losses and drop him like hot coal.

AssignedFuckerAtBirth · 26/07/2020 17:17

Yeah that is what I thought Grin
It is weird because he is so convincing that I actually believed some of the shit until I gave my head a shake. It is infuriating how right he thinks he is and even though I know its probably pointless I find myself trying to convince him otherwise

Don't let him move in with you. Does he think the earth is flat.

AndTheBandPlayedOn · 26/07/2020 17:24

Zero tolerance for weed. Dump him. But that's just me.
Conspiracy theories are thought provoking entertainment, imho, regardless of their veracity/truth. "He thinks he is destined to take over the world" crosses the line into psychotic delusion in my unprofessional opinion, unless your boyfriend is Xi Jinping.
There's not much confidence this will go the distsnce, so go with your gut (if you have to ask...) walk away sooner rather than later.

legalseagull · 26/07/2020 17:24

The Hitler comment would have made me literally grab my coat and leave

Hangingover · 26/07/2020 17:27

OP my friends weed psychosis started this way, especially this bit;

he thinks he is destined to take over the world and is very sure of himself

Six month down the road from where your DP is he genuinely believed he was Jesus and was section by police Sad

Would he see a GP?

PassingByAndThoughtIdDropIn · 26/07/2020 17:29

No good can come of this. Tell him you’re moving to Latvia, or becoming a nun, or have become allergic to him, but walk away, rapidly.

MondayYogurt · 26/07/2020 17:33

He smokes weed every day

Probably while watching youtube, right?

It's a no from me. These types are always awful lazy and hard work.

CuppaZa · 26/07/2020 17:35

I know of two people that think like him...they are both pot heads too Hmm

Badoukas · 26/07/2020 17:36

Interesting...the only person I know who keeps on about the Illuminati is also a big weed smoker.

DancingInDespair · 26/07/2020 17:38

Run, don't walk, away from him.

iklboo · 26/07/2020 17:43

For your own sanity call it a day.

peakygal · 26/07/2020 17:45

Interesting 🤔 any pothead that I know are like this too...

Sssloou · 26/07/2020 18:19

Yes I have known a few. Tedious, tedious company - but it just gets worse and worse. It seems it’s a progressive delusional paranoia. One went pop and ended up in a secure psychiatric ward for 2 years. He is out now but will not recovery. The other jumped off a multi storey car park when he was 28 years old.

Really sad - and there was no point wasting your breath with these two - both could get quite aggressive. No idea if it is just the weed and/or something else underlying....but tragic that you don’t know who will spin off on this stuff - a lottery - same as alcohol and alcoholism.

Why was he sectioned just for believing something stupid?

I thought you had to be a serious risk of harming yourself/ others to be sectioned (and sometimes they still don’t as they haven’t got the resources). 🙄

donquixotedelamancha · 26/07/2020 18:24

Run a mile OP.

donquixotedelamancha · 26/07/2020 18:27

Paranoia and mental health issues are common side effects of pot. I knew a couple of people like this in my youth- if you smoke weed like it's tobacco then it's life destroying.

Bananalanacake · 26/07/2020 18:31

Does he work, does he have friends who are the same.

PhilCornwall1 · 26/07/2020 18:31

The past few weeks however the theories he talks about are becoming more and more outlandish. Illuminati and free masons controlling the world,

Probably won't be the Freemasons, the majority are doddering old farts and all the Lodges are closed at the moment. Hmm

Regularsizedrudy · 26/07/2020 18:32

Omg. Run run RUUUUUUNNNNN, whyyyyyy put up with this batshittery

AssignedFuckerAtBirth · 26/07/2020 18:47

The funny thing is that he seems to appear from the outside as fully functioning and normal, for want of a better word. He has a full-time, highly skilled job, his own house and car although I have yet to meet any friends.
My gut is saying exactly what you are all telling me but do I tell him he is nuts or just stop contact?
I actually feel embarrassed to write this but he is very handsome and tells lots of tales of women stalking him and being unable to move on after himBlush
The more I type the worse it sounds

OP posts:
AssignedFuckerAtBirth · 26/07/2020 18:59

Well I guess its better to know now what he is like when I haven't invested much time or energy on him. Getting my running shoes on now Grin What direction are those hills again!?

OP posts:
ChavvySexPond · 26/07/2020 19:50

OP, Do you think he is mentally ill (whether as a result of weed or not) or just a victim of Far Right conditioning on YouTube? That's where he gets all this from right? Or has he got "friends" feeding him this bollocks. You know the sort, they always want you to "watch the video."

Some of those nonsense conspiracies I haven't even heard of, and I have the world's most credulous elderly auntie. (Who has never smoked weed, just read the Daily Mail all her life and thinks they wouldn't be able to say it if it isn't true. I often think the "It was in the Daily Mail" Victoria Wood character must have been based on her. Smile

I can’t I,afine listening to someone ranting on about conspiracy theories. Doesn’t it bore you rigid? I couldn’t take him seriously.
