Do needed to tackle the lawn today. It hasn't been mowed for about a year. Massive piles of stingy nettles and dock leaves everywhere. Do got out the strimmer yesterday. Took over 3 hrs to fix it whilst I cleaned house. Today he spent the day strimming the edges of the lawn then the strimmer stopped working. Then he went for a nap. The day has ended and there are still big piles of nettles and unsightly clumps of dockleaves everywhere. Was I bu to expect him to at least sort the lawn by the end of today so it is useable for the kids? AngryAngryAngry

Why can't you do it? Ask him to do something inside.

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 05/04/2020 21:45

Why is Op getting told to do it herself? He had ONE job ffs, and people moan about having useless DPs ffs

Boredbumhead · 05/04/2020 22:12

Yep. I had the job of cleaning inside and he had outside. If I do that too, I've done everything

@famousfor love that and will remember it.

I think I have a procrastinating DH too, I just tend to leave him to stuff, help when required and get on with my own thing.

I'm very lucky as I took on an allotment last year which he couldn't be bothered with last year as it was in a state. This year however he'd like to be involved, if I ask him to do something though, Lord the questions, I'll just ask him to do different jobs!

Onalake · 05/04/2020 22:39

My OH has mown today, all the smaller garden, a third of the big one. Doesn't bother me, we will be.stuck here for weeks to come, might as well spread things out a bit!

HavenDilemma · 05/04/2020 22:46

I couldn't possibly allow my lawn to get like that and I'm disabled! That's disgusting. You need professionals in; who I expect will advise that they scarify & re-seed.

Time40 · 05/04/2020 22:49

her DH fannies around with the strimmer achieving nothing

Strimmers are a total pain in the neck, though. The damn things are always breaking and they seem to need endless messing with.

safariboot · 05/04/2020 22:53

I know it's a cliche that a bad workman always blames his tools, but it sounds like it might be the case here. Three hours to fix the strimmer and then it breaks again.

Next time he should go at it with a pair of shears. He'll probably get more done that way than trying to fix the piece of junk strimmer.

Leave it for the bees, the insects, the butterflies and the worms. Nature will thank you Flowers

ineedaholidaynow · 05/04/2020 23:07

Has it ever looked like a lawn? That looks like something that has been neglected for a long time (a bit like parts of my garden so not criticising!) or is it not a very good photo. Can you concentrate on one area and get that child friendly?

Rottnest · 06/04/2020 06:25

In your place OP I would just get a lawn mowing contractor to do it. You otherwise could wait months for it to be finished. I just could not put up with it any longer. Good luck

Stet · 06/04/2020 06:44

It looks a bit past a maintenance cut tbh! We hadn't mowed ours since the end of summer and did the other day, but it was nowhere near as wild as that! It might need a bit more intervention. I'd honestly just get someone in to sort it and ignore his moaning.

But to the PP who said it was 'disgusting', it's greenery, not liquid effluent Hmm

leafygarden · 06/04/2020 06:44

you do it -

I think you've had an easier option with housework

Embracelife · 06/04/2020 15:15

So next weekend you swap. He does all the inside. You do the garden
