I'm trying to date and it's going miserably.

I'm not stick thin and glamorous but I'm not consciously uncool enough to be a hipster. I am too religious for atheists but not religious enough for church groups. I'm too serious but I'm not geeky enough. I'm too health conscious but not sporty enough.

The men I'm most attracted to are the hillwalking types but I absolutely hate the outdoors.

I thought all this tribalism would stop with high school :(

I don't think it's tribalism it's just knowing what you like and don't like. Get yourself some waterproofs, hill walking is great exercise and walkers tend to be nice people.

SummerSunTanTime · 21/02/2020 19:30

Ah, see, I know I don't like waterproofs Grin

Walk on the summer: cargo shorts, socks, walking boots! What’s not to like?

BillywilliamV · 21/02/2020 19:35

In the summer..

SummerSunTanTime · 21/02/2020 19:38

The cargo shorts, the socks, the walking boots, the wind, the sun, the bitey flying creatures... Not my scene!

Duchessofealing · 21/02/2020 19:40

The pub lunches half way round are good Grin

CaptainMyCaptain · 21/02/2020 19:45

You don't have to wear shorts and flying bitey things are rarely a problem. The other things are inevitable though. I don't know what to suggest.

BeanCalledPickle · 21/02/2020 19:59

Where do you live? I met my husband through a walking group!

june2007 · 21/02/2020 20:15

What do you enjoy? How do you like to socialise?

user53976478853 · 21/02/2020 20:22

Are you attracted to these men because they like hillwalking? Or just coincidentally all the men you like are into rambling?

SuperFurryDoggy · 21/02/2020 20:24

Oh I’m so sorry OP but that made me laugh so much GrinBlush

On the positive side, at least you’re not attracted to cyclists...

SummerSunTanTime · 21/02/2020 20:27

This.

I like quiet pubs, reading, dogs, my body balance class, markets and clothes.

I cannot tell you how much the lycra turns me off Grin

Gogolego · 21/02/2020 20:32

I'm the same as you op! And everyone else is just meh

On the first couple of dates I want to make a bit of an effort appearance wise and waterproofs are the opposite and just yuck. Although a dog walk is a good 2nd date. But in a nice day where you can where some makeup without looking too try hard

Reginabambina · 21/02/2020 20:38

Why not just drive to pubs on hill walking routes and lurk there waiting for a suitable victim love interest?

OhioOhioOhio · 21/02/2020 20:40

I feel your pain.

Dozer · 21/02/2020 20:40

I have always fancied sporty, outdoorsy men and until v recently wasn’t at all active myself and am still not outdoorsy. IME there is a subset of the sporty/outdoorsy men who fancy non sporty women!

Grin With a net and a tranquilliser dart? Grin

(And on second thoughts it doesn't sound that creepy)

redexpat · 21/02/2020 20:42

Reginabambina is the friend we all need in life Grin

Gogolego · 21/02/2020 20:44

Thanks to Regina anyone else mentally planning a mn road trip to a hillside pub to await for love victims?

CaptainMyCaptain · 21/02/2020 21:10

I like quiet pubs, reading, dogs, my body balance class, markets and clothes You like the same things I like except I also like walking. - - Here's a tip: don't get off with your body balance teacher, just saying--

RuffleCrow · 21/02/2020 21:12

Are you me OP? Can we set up our own club? Grin

OhioOhioOhio · 21/02/2020 21:17

Dozer

Really?

marly11 · 21/02/2020 21:54

I suppose the important thing to check is which subset of these people will not want to go camping. Walking is one thing, but camping is quite another.

june2007 · 21/02/2020 22:33

Nowt wrong with camping. But what ikids of camper they vary a lot
