Does anyone know how much a registrar doctor earns?

DP claiming poverty but has been a registrar for 10 years ish. I thought he’d be on at least over 55k but claims not. I don’t believe him and he’s wanting to put less than half into joint account.

Ask to see his pay slip?
Do you have children?

If you live together, why dont you know how much he earns?
Does he know how much you earn?

mrwalkensir · 04/02/2020 21:29

simple search shows £35K as average ...

MMmomDD · 04/02/2020 21:29

This doesn’t sound like a relationship with trust. Not a great place to start a future together.
Why do you think he makes more than he says - does he spend a lot?
And have you not seen each other accounts or payslips?

No children. Yes live together. I earn more than 60 and he is now claiming he earns less than 45. I just don’t believe that? I have asked for a payslip and he sent me a photo as it is ‘all online now.’ The photo doesn’t even show his name.

Based on that link it’s well under 50k then? I feel a bit shit now

Why has he been a registrar for 10 years? Has he stopped training and become a staff grade?

It's still all paper payslips here too.

The speciality and on all commitment will make a massive difference.

takeyourrubbishhome · 04/02/2020 21:33

£45k might be realistic, assuming his 10 years as a junior include his foundation years. What speciality? And has he passed all his exams?

EvenFlo2 · 04/02/2020 21:34

It depends on what level of Reg he is, whether he has an uplift for antisocial hours, whether he is NHS or private etc etc.
Pay slips are pretty much all online now though so that’s probably true.

WorldyGrease · 04/02/2020 21:34

He has specialised yes. He wants to be a consultant but preparing for exams coming up. But he’s been qualified around 9 years as a registrar.

FuzzyAtmosphere · 04/02/2020 21:34

All online here.

I think your level of distrust doesn’t bode well for a future.

WorldyGrease · 04/02/2020 21:35

Yeah I think I just thought he would be on at least 55k by now and had that fixed in my head.

Whathewhatnow · 04/02/2020 21:35

And is that basic?? I thought doctors got all sorts of additions and allowances.

EvenFlo2 · 04/02/2020 21:35

Hahaha maybe it’s just our local area that has online payslips.. apologies lunar1

VivaLeBeaver · 04/02/2020 21:35

It says an ST9 is 50,068. So that’s someone who is on their 9th year of specalaity training....but he’s done at least 10 years? The link only goes up to st9, it’s unusual to still be a Reg after 9 years but maybe depends on speciality? Is he looking to make consultant?

missyB1 · 04/02/2020 21:36

I think he’s probably telling the truth, Jeremy Cunt screwed them over.
But I’m interested as to why he’s been a reg for 10 years? Did he take time out for something or has he been part time?

WorldyGrease · 04/02/2020 21:36

Yes he wants to be a consultant. So based on that he could be on 50k max? Just seems crazy for a doctor? Maybe I’ve been deluded about their pay

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 04/02/2020 21:37

X post.

He should be on at least 50k but maybe not 55k. I think.

bitheby · 04/02/2020 21:37

I work in the NHS and my payslips are all online.

WorldyGrease · 04/02/2020 21:37

Ok. Well I feel a bit bad now. I earn much more and in fairness think I do a lot less.

VivaLeBeaver · 04/02/2020 21:38

I do know people who have taken longer than usual at Reg level. Sometimes done research for a couple of years, or gone abroad for a good training opportunity for a year or 2.

WorldyGrease · 04/02/2020 21:39

Yes he had a year in research before I met him

OP posts:
BabbleBee · 04/02/2020 21:39

I agree with PPs about the lack of trust. The dynamic of you not believing him and wanting more money isn’t healthy.

Anyway, because I’m nosey, I just had a look at NHS jobs and everything on there including Chief Registrar for emergency medicine is under £50k other than those with ‘competitive’ salaries. Most are £31,841-£50,068 per annum.
