Mate's girlfriend lying to him about pregnancy

Apologies if i've got this totally wrong. A workmate of mine has been really stressed for about 10 days, I asked him what was up and he said his girlfriend might be pregnant. I asked if they had taken a test and he said yes but the result came up negative.

I suggested they take another one, but in order to be 100% sure, go to the Drs. I didn't see him until a week later. I asked if there had been any updates and he said she still didn't know if she was pregnant or not, that they needed to 'wait for the test results'.

Apparently the Dr had told her that he 'wouldn't carry out a pregnancy test until her home test showed a positive result.'

I may be wrong but pregnancy tests at the Drs are instant, aren't they ? I was offered one there and then, and got the result there and then ?

I can't imagine any doctor refusing to carry out a pregnancy test based on a home kit ? They aren't always accurate, and as far as I know, any female can walk into a family planning clinic and request a pregnancy test.

I asked if he was with her when the Dr told her all this and he said no, she went on her own.

I don't understand how they can 'still be waiting for test results'. I feel like she's lying to him, this seems odd what she's saying. Just don't get why ?

What age are you, OP? You sound very young.

Why does he not want a child to the point hes drinking badly?

The GF trying to trap him? I hope not as he sounds pathetic

My GP wont book you in until they've done a pregnancy test themselves. This is a urine test that goes off to the lab and results take a few days. Its perfectly feasible, why do you think shes lying?

Just tell him to be sure to use condoms.

If she says she’s pregnant at some point he might believe “she’s pregnant anyway so let’s just shag like crazy and enjoy it with no contraception as the worst has already happened...”

Meanwhile she’s thinking “great I’m bound to fall pregnant now with all this shagging and he thinks I already am.....”

OP ignore the weirdos.

My first two the gp just believe dum home result.
My daughter who is now 3 I was surprised the gp sent off a urine sample and I had to phone for results.

It could be that the GP has done 2 blood tests 48 hours apart. The likelihood is that his GF has messed up her pill and therefore messed up her normal cycle. If home tests are coming back negative it’s unlikely she’s pregnant.

LIZS · 22/12/2019 08:38

Why did you assume she was lying? It sounds as if he does not trust her, not great in a relationship.

It appears that different GPs have different approaches to pregnancy tests. I wonder whether it's down to the individual or whether health authorities lay down the guidelines, depending on (as usual, and probably flawed) cost/benefit analysis - cost of carrying out official tests compared to cost of booking in an estimated number of women who were mistaken, for example. You can bet these guidelines would change from year to year as well. So you can't be sure this woman is or is not lying on the basis of your own experience. Time will inevitably show up whether she's pregnant or not, but even that doesn't mean she was necessarily being deceitful.

My GP doesn't do tests until you have a positive home test these days. In fact, the GP is completely bypassed now. You have to get a positive home test and then you can get booked into the midwife service instead. If it's been a week now since she tested negative (I am assuming near a missed period date) then surely a home test would be showing something by now?

All 3 times I've had a positive home pregnancy test I've never been asked to take another at the gps!

I had bleeding with number 2 and the epau took a test as a precaution!
