If you had given up but then met the one and had a family after 35, can you give me some hope?

I like my life but I have always wanted a marriage and a family.

Did you meet the one after 35 and have everything you wanted even when you thought you never would?

I already feel like i have missed out on so much time in a stable loving relationship with a family.

Yep. Met aged 38, married and first child at 40, second child at 43. 12 years on, still great. I know lots of other 'late-starters'.

I had to forget everything I thought my life partner had to be and become more open-minded.

keystothatjam · 03/12/2018 11:18

Did you settle earlymodern or did you really fall in love?

bellinisurge · 03/12/2018 11:22

Fell in love, married at 39, baby at 41. Now in my fifties.
No "settling " but I was more grown up and less likely to do dumb things with my relationships. Which I certainly had done when younger.

OneTitWonder · 03/12/2018 11:24

Met at 36, fell in love, married at 37, baby at 38. Twelve years later, happy as clams.

EarlyModernParent · 03/12/2018 11:56

Really fell in love.

Not my first dh, but met when I was 42!! Def not just settled this time round!!
There is a fab life out there for you op.

I was 35 and single but I was happy and felt at peace. Other people seemed more concerned about me being single than I was! I didn’t think I was missing out as I just knew that I couldn’t settle for the wrong person and Would be happier on my own. I met my partner and knew straightaway he was the one, and I had a baby in the same year. A similar thing happened to a friend who was doing OLD for years without success, she gave it up and met her husband at a hobby she started. Also over 35.

Netty909 · 03/12/2018 13:21

Also, my partner was definitely not the type of person I had imagined I would be with!

Mum4Fergus · 03/12/2018 13:29

Had DS when I was 41 but his Dad and I split a few years later. Met my now husband 3 and a half years ago at 47, we married this year when I was 50 and he was 47.

Alfie190 · 03/12/2018 13:42

I met my now husband shortly before I was 35. We have had 14 happy years, no children for us, which was ok for us.

Bellendejour · 03/12/2018 13:43

Met DP at 40 now pregnant at 41. I didn’t want to settle even though it was hard to keep on keeping on sometimes! Super in love and excited about spending the rest of our lives together hopefully fingers crossed! Are you single/dating or seeing someone atm OP?

Jamhandprints · 03/12/2018 13:46

Not quite 35 but I had never had a serious relationship at all, then met OH when I was 31 and had the children aged 32, 35 and 39. But certainly an element of settling as OH is certainly not my dream man.

BigusBumus · 03/12/2018 13:48

I settled for my first husband and had a baby but it ended quickly. At 35 and with a toddler son I met my DH. I knew he was The One within a few days, moved in and was pregnant within 3 months. That was 14 years ago and still extremely happy.

Froglette16 · 03/12/2018 13:57

Met DH when I was 33. Lots of family stuff delayed our marriage, which eventually happened at 38. 2 DC now. Don’t give up. You’ll know when you meet him.

keystothatjam · 03/12/2018 14:13

These posts are so encouraging thank you!!

It also seems people do have a feeling of knowing it is right which is reassuring.

I thought that only happened to people in their early twenties and then after that it was what was left.

Sort of. I had my first two children in my early 20s with exdp, we split up, I was single for 10 years and thought that was the rest of my life.

Met now dp online just after my 35th birthday, cliche but love at first sight. We have one dc and another on the way. I keep pinching myself that I’m lucky enough to get a second chance.

OP I had mine after 35. Read this it's very interesting!

Froglette16 · 03/12/2018 14:54

HauntedPencil that article is really interesting! DH and I ttc for 6 yearsbefore having our DC naturally. I was 41 and 43 at the time of the births. Ironically my bloods and nuchal tests improved by a third for DC2! No one could tell me why.

Lozzerbmc · 03/12/2018 15:06

Yes! Married at 21 divorced at 35. Met someone new at 36 had our son at 38. DS now 11 and I am much happier living with DP than I was married😀

Snowwontbelong · 03/12/2018 15:13

Forgot to add had a ds at 43!!

pintsizeprincess · 03/12/2018 15:30

yes. was with my ex husband from 21 , divorced at 32. Met my DP at 35 and had DD1 at nearly 38 and DD2 at nearly 41. very happy and getting married next year. You have every chance of finding the happiness you want. Good luck

RivanQueen · 03/12/2018 15:45

Met my DP at 33, I'm now 38 and expecting our first! Smile we're getting married at the beginning of next year before bub arrives (we were in the middle of planning our elopement for 2019 to a resort overseas but our little bundle scuppered those plans, a UK based wedding it is) Grin. Definitely haven't settled, totally in love, he's an amazing person and I'm so very thankful that I didn't settle before I met him.

toffeeapple123 · 03/12/2018 22:25

Can I ask where you all met your partners? I'm struggling to meet guys at work (female dominated industry) and the gym and hobbies aren't giving me much luck either. No one to meet via friends either. Taking a break from OLD.
