He knew I had 2 young dc when we met 6 months ago. Now he’s broken it off because he’s got cold feet about taking on children what aren’t his own. WTF? Why the fuck did he get involved in the first place then?

I understand it's disappointing.
Regardless of the real reason, he did end it honestly, and didn't drag you along for years with hot and cold treatment.

6 months is still in the evaluation stage for a relationship. I hope you were still evaluating him too.

I’m a single parent to a four year old, my boyfriend of seven months met him for the first time on Sunday.

I’m well aware that meeting my son had made him very real to my boyfriend, I’m well aware that he could decide to end our relationship because I’m a parent.

If that happens I will be really gutted, but he won’t have done anything wrong if he does decide that.

Sorry you’re hurt OP but like others have said he has every right to break off a relationship that isn’t working for him. Try not to fixate on the reason it could be genuine or it could be an excuse. Either way it doesn’t change the fact it is over between you two. Enjoy your children and try and move on and I’m sure you’ll meet someone who wants the same things as you. Good luck.
