Would you do a test even though you knew you weren't

Hi all,

What would you all do in my situation? DH and I have been told that we have less than a 1% chance of getting pregnant naturally (problems on both sides) and we have had one failed IVF attempt, which although worked, it didn't stick and we had what the clinic classed as an early miscarriage. We were told to keep trying naturally which we have, although not religiously (I really struggled with the first round and now believe that my body doesn't work anyway so what's the point). We are waiting for a second round, I just need to lose a bit more weight before we can do so, but my weight loss is steady, not drastic and I've been regular throughout so don't think this is the cause, but my period is now 6 days late with no signs of showing up (none of my normal pmt symptoms). I am normally fairly regular. Is there any point in doing a test and being disappointed even though I know really there is no chance of being pregnant, or would you just wait it out until it arrives. I could I guess being perimenopausal (I'm 38). I have no signs that would make me think I could be pregnant, apart from fatigue (which isn't a new thing to me). Don't really know why I am posting, just wondered what others would do? x

LampHat · 13/09/2018 22:36

Good luck OP. I understand your feelings to an extent - I have my own miracle babies asleep upstairs.

But if it’s as you expect and you’re not pregnant, you still have the next round of IVF which is fab. It’s just another step in your journey to being a mum.

I’ll be checking in on Saturday morning with about a million others by the sound of things. Smile

wishing you all the luck in the world OP, miracles do happen. If it is not this time, then your planned IVF round II will be the time. Flowers

You sound like you will be a lovely mum.

Whatisthishelp · 14/09/2018 07:00

Oh my word, I am overwhelmed with the amount of messages of support and success, thank you so much for taking the time! AF still hasn't arrived, but I am getting odd abdominal feelings, very mild stabbing pains on and off to the left, and a headache for three days now, so can't help thinking it's imminent sadly.

I am, like others have said, finding it hard to wait until tomorrow, but DH wants to be with me when I do it, and as I am up for work so early, and he works until late, we don't see each other in the mornings so it has to be tomorrow morning when we are both off.

If it comes to it, I just hope our second round of IVF will be successful, and can go ahead without all the problems and complications of the first round (missed tests, bloods taken on the wrong day giving incorrect results, being told wrong information which I had to question constantly, the list goes on and we really can't deal with that stress again!

I promise to update all you lovely ladies tomorrow morning, whatever the result, but I do think it will be the result that none of us wants xx

So good that you'll have your OH there with you, that's wise of him to say - though it means a longer wait, means more support.

As I found out myself on here, so many women have been through the same or are going through the same - you're not alone, and every situation is so unique.

Really wish the best outcome for you - either this test or later down the line x

Justanotherfool · 14/09/2018 10:45

Wishing you a positive result Flowers

Haworthia · 14/09/2018 11:06

I’m really rooting for you Whatisthishelp.

But you know, please don’t feel any pressure from us. Whatever the result, you’ll have our support.

December2018 · 14/09/2018 11:12

Sending virtual loves your way

Good luck.
Just wanted to say I had a few false starts getting pregnant, ie. period coming late when I'd never had that before ttc.
It eventually happened. I think my body just needed to get into gear for it all and for my brain to accept it was never going to happen.
I don't wish to give false hope but even if this one doesn't work out your body might be more prepared next time.
