Brave Babes (Hygge) Battle Bus: Snowed in and Drinking Hot Chocolate instead of wine

SweetLathyrus · 01/03/2018 16:17

Hi, I'm SweetLathyrus, Sweet for short, and I've been on and off Gerald the Brave Babes Battle Bus since 2014. Over the years, lots of us have maintained the thread, most of all the lovely Mouse, who has been here since the early days, and still scurries onboard when she can.

The bus is a place of support, safety and occasional silliness for those of us struggling with our relationship with alcohol. Some of us are sober, some are trying to be, some are moderating and aren't ready to give up alcohol just yet.

So whatever your reason for questioning the whys and WTFs of your drinking, hop on board, make yourselves comfortable and join in. Driers and Triers, all welcome.

2018 has been a busy year so far, lots of new travellers as well as old faces; if you want to read back on the journey through Dry or Dryer Jan and Feb so far, here's the link to the last thread

And in case you want to know how it all started, here is the link to JWN's original, inspiring thread

We've donned the snow chains, topped up the antifreeze, and turned the heaters up to loud, so even though it's cold outside, our welcome is always warm, so hop on and join us.

I’m in Ma.
I need a focus (and a kick up the bloody arse) too.
January was good and surprisingly easy, February was ok and moderated well, March......I’ve lost the plot. Have stayed af most weekdays but it’s creeping up and I really need to kick the wine into touch. I’ve not posted because I didn’t think I had anything to say.
I’m not committing to starting tomorrow, son and gf are coming for a couple of days and will bring wine, but I’m with you from Tuesday, if that helps.

AnneBoleynsHead · 31/03/2018 22:06

I'm in Ma as long as I can start on Monday. Family round for dinner tomorrow - will only be 1 bottle between 3 wine drinkers, (which I'm fine with - it's solo drinking that's my problem.)
So I'll join you on Monday if that's ok. I need to make myself accountable.

venusandmars · 01/04/2018 08:36

I'm with you.

Twattage13 · 01/04/2018 08:52

Me too from tomorrow. Finally have a 5 month run with no holidays and I want to get into a healthy routine.

Wrongwayup · 01/04/2018 09:05

Sneaks sheepishly back. Plan for today. 2 glasses. One as out for lunch and other this evening.

blueskyinmarch · 01/04/2018 18:27

I am in too. I do have a black tie do mid April but I might offer to drive to it.

dementedma · 01/04/2018 20:22

no wine today, thankfully, but had two G and Ts.
should be AF from tomorrow. it's the wine that does for me, every time.
I made this rhubarb and ginger cheesecake today..

bakingcupcakes · 02/04/2018 07:29

I love a cheesecake although not at the moment. Started with a stomach bug Friday (the journey home Saturday was a right laugh) and I still feel like shit. I'm eating bits but I feel sickly and headachey and generally rough. Not been sick or had the runs since Saturday but I've got to go to work tomorrow and I don't feel like it at all.

On the plus side I don't feel like drinking alcohol. Still not had any this year. Don't know how many days that is but it's lots. I'll do a dry April with you Ma.

It's snowing here. Thinking hoping it's too wet to stick. We only had rain forecast.

AnneBoleynsHead · 02/04/2018 08:22

Morning Babes. Hope you soon feel better Cupcakes We've got a couple of inches of snow here, but not too bad. Going to try a little run in a mo. Had a couple of glasses of wine yesterday as planned, but TODAY I WILL NOT BE DRINKING 😂

Whatevermaybe · 02/04/2018 08:35

Morning everyone, thanks for the welcome back ma. I will join you for Dry April. I’m going to start counting the days from today as never got passed day 3 for a while. Dry April is the kick up the bum I need. X

Whatevermaybe · 02/04/2018 08:37

Just realised today is the 2nd but I was AF yesterdaySmile

dementedma · 02/04/2018 08:56

Dry April it is then...
I looked and felt so much better at the end of January so I NEED to do this. also need to get out walking more. I have a step counter thingy on my phone and am never anywhere near 10,000 steps. Even when I go for a walk at lunchtime the most it goes up to is 5,000. I am killing myself with alcohol and indolence.

If I have a new life ahead of me, then I better get in shape to live it.

blueskyinmarch · 02/04/2018 09:12

Day 1 done. Slept terribly but I am so glad I don't have a hangover too!

Whatevermaybe · 02/04/2018 16:07

Well my partner has finished work early and came in with drink (for himself). I’ve had to come upstairs to remove myself from any temptation. Just away to put a film on.

buttonz · 02/04/2018 18:55

I've been drinking every night since Thursday.

I've used the Bank Holiday as an excuse,

Well, I will not drink tomorrow and I will have powerful cravings, but I will get through it...

The cravings are dreadful.

Whatevermaybe · 02/04/2018 20:07

I’m tucked up in bed watching a film. Don’t get me wrong it was so tempting but know I would regret it in the morning. Hope everyone else doing ok x

dementedma · 02/04/2018 20:37

Af today. hd to use AF beer to get me through but done now and heading for bed soon. Bloody snowing here AGAIN!

blueskyinmarch · 02/04/2018 21:13

2nd day done. I am very weary and having an early night.

Trust2017 · 03/04/2018 05:10

Morning all. I am back from holiday. Had a wonderful time but have put on about half a stone. Didn’t go mad with the drinking but definitely would like to join in with Dry April to get back on track.
Will be going to Zumba tonight and starting to eat healthily again too!

Trust2017 · 03/04/2018 05:13

Baking hope you feel better today. Just wanted to say that you have done amazingly well by not drinking this year at all. Do you still feel like a drink sometimes? Were you a binger or a regular drinker?

Whatevermaybe · 03/04/2018 07:59

Morning babes, plans for today, work, home and go for a walk/jog even if the weather is crap. Just need to plan my evenings ahead. Check in later x

bakingcupcakes · 03/04/2018 08:13

Trust I feel much better today. Definitely on the mend. Still feel sick but think it's hunger.

I was a daily drinker. Pre DS I drank about 60 units a week. Reduced significantly after but still daily. I failed DJ every year for a few years and properly tried to moderate last year. It just kept creeping up though and the weekends were binging sessions. Since doing DJ this year I've become a bit scared of alcohol. It feels like if I have any everything will fall apart because I won't be able to stop. I do still think about it even after 3 months. I fancy a can when I sit and watch a film for example but I have Becks Blue for that. And I have evening hobbies. I'm going to crack crochet if it kills me!

When I was away me& DS went for food at my friends local. They drove us even though it was walking distance. They then had 2 pints each and shared a bottle of wine but drove home. I walked with DS having not drunk anything. It was literally round the corner and they seemed fine. Previously (without DS) I would've got in the car. I can't honestly say what I would've done if I'd also had a drink...like would I have realised they'd had so much? Would I think it was ok? I don't know really. I know for a fact I would've left my car. I spent a lot of time walking places due to alcohol. I love not having to think about it in a morning.

That's turned into a bit of an epic post. Hope everyone's feeling positive today. Well done everyone getting to day 3. I think the early days are the hardest.

Twattage13 · 03/04/2018 08:45

Morning all - baking that's a shocking story. I am fairly certain I would notice if people were that over the limit but who knows what I would have done in my wine drinking days. Glad you're feeling a bit better.

After being dry on Sunday I had a crap day yesterday.

We had a power surge up to 400 volts into the area where we live at the coast, which resulted in the electricity going off at 4.30am yesterday morning and a v loud bang (which we later found out was one of the circuit boards in our fuse box dying). They fixed the line outside but wouldn't turn anyone's electricity back on until yesterday evening evening around 7pm when they came and checked inside each property individually.

The electricity company will be fixing everything at their cost - we've been pretty lucky, it's only the upstairs lights circuit that's not working, however other people had a lot of their appliances actually blow up - smoke coming out of TVs etc.

So yesterday was a total bust and in the PM me and the boy had beers (he also had takeaway), due to boredom largely. Back on the straight and narrow today. We were supposed to be driving back to London yesterday but we're still at the coast - I guess we missed the traffic!

My plan for April is to aim to be 25 days AF and a max of 5 days moderating. That would be my best month so far this year if I can achieve it.

trust glad you had a lovely holiday. I am also still carrying holiday pounds so am v focused on my WW points at the mo (helps with not drinking)!

xxx

Slingsanderrors · 03/04/2018 09:10

Morning all,
Too many to mention you all, but thanks to ma for starting dry April, well done to baking for trying to crack the crochet. twattage that power surge sounds scary.

Day 1 of dry April for me, son and gf are off home today, it’s been lovely having them here but quite boozy! I’m actually feeling relieved that today I will not be drinking.

Have a good day everyone

Twattage13 · 03/04/2018 18:53

Evening all - back in London and in bed with tea, pjs and cat. I have found that it's much better for me to finish work and then eat, shower and get through the witching hour in this way, than showering in the morning (it makes me sleepy etc).

It turns out that the loud bang yesterday morning was actually all the electrics blowing in our en-suite bathroom but fortunately the electricity company sent someone round today and the fixed everything FOC (kind of amazing - I am impressed).

Back with my client tomorrow so really now into the new routine for the next 5 months...no excuses to go off track!

Night all. xxx
