Oh dear - I just posted the 1000 thread. Hope we all find this one.

Selena hugs back.
I just miss him, not particular things as such, just the essence of John.
And if I think about that I just ache for him and tears just leak from my eyes.
So, mostly, I don't think about it I just carry on.

We had the very dark morning until about 11. Then orange skies and sun, most peculiar but from the Sahara and forest fires in Spain and France apparently.

Sunny, warm afternoon, wind started getting up about 3 30, just been round tucking in the skip - as far as I can.

I'd like Strictly without the insane competitive element. Bring back Come Dancing and add a bit of pizzazz!

Decorator worked well, hope yours are finished book?

Cake - I thought 7 15 bad enough this morning and for rest of week!

squirrels - please send some fudge over here?

Willow - hope aches and pains soon disappear and at least you got paid Smile which is always a plus.

Horse - hope all well with you.

Juan - do hope things getting very slightly easier.

Horsemad · 16/10/2017 18:51

Very strange skies here today too. Before I read about the forest fire/Sahara thing, it reminded me of being in a sand storm, so made sense once I read about that Smile

Apart from the weather, the day was most uninteresting! Just work and a quiet day too, which was nice.

All calm at the moment but the winds are forecast to strengthen overnight. I love being tucked up when it's a bit wild outside Smile

Willow, I've noticed prices creeping up too.

Hope your workmen got on ok book.

Willow2017 · 16/10/2017 19:21

Getting very blustery here over the afternoon. Had to hold the lid of gp' s hutch to stop it blowing down on ds's head while he mucked them out😀

Pottering afternoon cleaning out fridge before putting all the shopping away. Took pumpkin puree out to bake with tomorrow. (Plus had to make some room 😀)
Kids doing dishes so I am going to sit on my btm for rest of night.

Horsemad · 16/10/2017 22:06

Hope you've had a restful evening Willow, glad to hear the DC help with washing up Smile

chasing, it was really dark here this morning; I felt like it was the middle of the night at 7.30am! Shock

bookbook · 16/10/2017 22:22

Evening all
It has been a very strange weather day - orange skies, and warm too. I drove home tonight okay, though it was a tweak gusty. Its sounding worse now, but tucked up safe.
Workmen here tomorrow too - it is two day job ,(in theory) so hoping its all done and dusted tomorrow .
Willow money always helps to ease the aches and pains , and always helpful. But still busy I see Yes to noticing prices going up - butter in particular , but even carrots - I haven't bought any for ages ( though I don't grow them, I do swap them at the allotment ) The packet I buy has gone from £1 a bag to £1.25 in one jump . Gulp - glad I grow most of my veg
Selena I hope what was in the skip is still there in the morning ...
Horse - same here - quiet day with a bit of DGS babysitting !
Cake - 5.30 again - and you so busy this week too.
Hope you are snug and have a good nights sleep
Night all,
Thoughts and Prayers

bookbook · 16/10/2017 22:24

I forgot to ask- Chasing - how are your chickens? Still in the bush?
And yes - dark on a night too, and soon will be darker still. I hate the clocks going back

Willow2017 · 16/10/2017 22:58

Evening all.

Really windy here now.
Yes I have been sitting watching tv doing nothing!

Horse took a lot of telling but they got them done ds1 very 'busy' on Xbox and he thinks if he leaves it long enough they will be dry and he will only have to put them away! He was warned dry them or else, if I find they are in the cupboard still wet....Smile

Had to put the heating on to help dry all the washing, have a huge pile on the kitchen floor/baskets but its impossible to dry in this weather when its raining off and on all day. Have a dehumidifier thats supposed to dry clothes too but its not so great on the heavier stuff.

Have a lot to do tomorrow, chase up school about ds1's change in subject (still no phone call back!) chase up my hours at work, book in for ds2's parents evening. Apparently you do it online now which hopefully will be better than the kids running around asking the teachers to put their names on timeslots on a sheet of paper. Best get on it first thing to get decent times I suppose. Have whole place to tidy, batch cooking to do and baking so the volunteering will have to pass tomorrow, can do more on wednesday.

Squirrels hope the chooks have the sense to get into the henhouse tonight and dont get blown away Grin

TheWorldIsMyCakePop · 17/10/2017 06:30

Hello all

Guess what? 5:30 again. He's getting 10 hours which isn't really enough but he just cannot stay awake longer as he gets horrid. Clocks are changing next week so no idea how that will go!

Yesterday was as successful as any Monday could be, so pleased with that. The weather was very strange and the sky/sun very eerie.

Getting people to school, then going to buy DS a costume for the Halloween disco and meeting a friend for a walk.

Willow I feel for you, there's always so much to do and so little time/energy. Especially when it all falls on you. Hope they get up a bit earlier and more easily today.

I have also noticed the price rise. Like you say book butter Shock I'm trying to meal plan and be frugal. Kids may be getting a lump of coal each at this rate Grin

Hope you slept well Horse I love sleeping when it's raining outside.

Selena and book hope the building works are going OK! There's an extension going up 2 doors down from us so dreading all the noise/mess. So far it's only been one bad day of drilling/taking down the old porch.

Check in with you all later.

bookbook · 17/10/2017 08:17

Morning all
A bit bleary eyed here , but up and dressed ( of course!)
Very blustery overnight, and still very breezy.
Cake - thats the problem really , its almost like an alarm , and not easy to re-set. And you are the one having to cope with it all. I'm not sure how you do it - I am a zombie if I don't get enough sleep
Willow - you are doing such a lot, I am feeling tired just reading about it. I don't know if it would work for you, but my DD has one of those indoor heated airers , and really rates it. It ha a cover over it too, so it sits quite tidily in the corner of the dining area.
hope its all going well with your work Selena . I bet you are looking forward to getting your house back .
Horse - nice quiet days at work are good - no horrid manager breathing down your back hopefully
A bitty day ahead here - off to the market and library, allotment to pick veg ( if the wind drops , may do a bit of work) . Ironing . Nothing major .
Have a good day all

Chasingsquirrels · 17/10/2017 08:26

Went out for a meal last night with WAY group, although only three of us. Then didn't make myself go to bed so was very late and don't want to get up now - bit of a recurrent thing when the boys aren't here, and I do really need to catch up on some sleep.
Back achy again this morning, I have a old injury that niggles a bit, it got a lot better when I lost weight and did some exercises my physio friend gave me - so need to start doing those again.
Also need to find an exercise I'll enjoy and stick to, and can fit in around being taxi of mum.

Hope you aren't too stiff Willow and get your jobs done today.
No idea what to suggest on the early riser Cake.
Hope the door is finished today book.
Everything still in the skip Selena?

Morning
But if a rushed morning. Had to take kuds kids to school as other kid ill do just pulled on joggers over pjs as was planning shower after kids left!
Still windy here and lots of black clouds.
Book I don't know if I have room for one of those would have to go in a bedroom and no more space in my room! Hope weather is allotment friendly. Failing that treat yourself to a lazy day.

Having some toast before I start. Need to phone charity shop to let them know i won't be in then start on my list of phone calls.

Spent too long on Pinterest printing up recipes last night to use up pumpkin puree😀 then ds1 realised he hadn't finished his homework I was not happy. Cue him on his phone looking up stuff at 12.30! Grrr moaning about lack of sleep this am, he got short shift I can tell you.

Hope wind doesn't disrupt all the workmen today.

bookbook · 17/10/2017 09:24

quick one - Willow pumpkin makes lovely risotto - I have a good recipe if you want it :)

Willow2017 · 17/10/2017 09:30

Book ooh that sounds nice, yes please.

bookbook · 17/10/2017 09:39

Here you go Willow .
you can skip the cooking of the pumpkin bit - I am usually using some that is already roasted. You may need to add some garlic and dried rosemary for the right flavouring, and arborio risotto rice not carnaroli.
It takes about 25 - 30 minutes from start to finish, and its just patience!

Pumpkin Risotto Serves 4
600g (1 lb 5 oz) pumpkin flesh, chopped into very small chunks
2 tbsp olive oil
90g (3 1/4 oz) butter
4 sprigs of fresh rosemary, 2 finely chopped, 2 whole
1 garlic clove
1 small onion, finely chopped
300g (10 1/2 oz) carnaroli rice
1 litre (1 3/4 pints) chicken stock, hot
50g (1 3/4 oz) Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
Salt and pepper to taste

In a pan, heat the oil and a third of the butter, then add the whole sprigs of rosemary, the garlic clove and pumpkin. The pumpkin will automatically exude some liquid and so no water needs to be added. Cook for about 20 minutes or until the pumpkin softens and dissolves. Remove the rosemary sprigs and garlic clove.

In another large pan, heat half the remaining butter and fry the onion gently until soft, then add the rice and fry equally gently, stirring continuously, for a few minutes. Add a little of the hot chicken stock and then the pumpkin mixture. Add more stock gradually until it is all used up and has been absorbed by the rice, stirring from time to time to avoid it sticking to the pan. Take off the heat and beat in the remaining butter and the Parmesan, and sprinkle with chopped rosemary.

Willow2017 · 17/10/2017 13:51

Book thanks. Will try that it looks good, maybe even my fussy kids will like it.

Stop the bus I want to get off!
Whose stupid idea was it to bake?
2 trays of blueberry cookies and 2 trays of apple and carrot buns later....
Didnt get to make any of the new recipies as didnt have a few of the ingredients and local shop didnt either, will get them tomorrow.

Done my phone calls (teacher of course not in till thursday!)
Booked the parents evening slots (all thoughts of putting them in order of classrooms went out the window as couldnt get on until 90th attempt!)
Working weekend and they will sort it out this week so I am not working every sat and sunday every weekend.

Phew!
Still got a pile of laundry in airing cupboard to sort out but washing still on the line so far so thats a bonus. Smile

Still got to cook up the mince I defrosted I stupidly put in one bag for quickness instead of several.

Hope winds are dying down where you all are. It was pretty cold this morning but warm now, weather is playing silly buggers on us.

KBO.

TheWorldIsMyCakePop · 17/10/2017 14:20

Hello, we've had a good morning and I've got DS a werewolf costume rather than the vampire he wanted to be. Hope he likes it.

I'm taking it as easy as I can for the rest of the day.

Willow, pass some cake this way!

SelenaValentina · 17/10/2017 16:22

Skip amazingly intact. I half/fully expected to be dashing round neighbours' gardens, apologizing profusely as I picked up underwear and socks, but I must have done a good enough job of tucking/bashing down. Smile

As with others, a cold shock-to-the-system morning. Wind now dropped, was pretty hairy last night - and living near the coast anything under 60 mph to me is just a bit of a breeze - but it was way beyond that at times.

I want some of the cake Willow.

But guess what, the splashback from the new firm has arrived already and just now been put on. Tiler to come and finish off, and decorator is going great guns saying he thinks he'll be finished by end of next week, so I'm tentatively hoping the floor people in 2 weeks. Fingers tightly crossed please, everyone!

Willow2017 · 17/10/2017 16:44

Buns done half in freezer. Have one each with cream cheese filling with hint of orange. Ds1 had a lick of bowl and decided he didn't like it. I will swing for those kids one of these days.

Making chilli for tea haven't made it years but kids like spicier things now so fingers crossed.

Gonna collapse in front of bake off later.
Selena we had 50 -60 m wind here too apparently near coast too.
Good news on the kitchen light at end of tunnel.

bookbook · 17/10/2017 17:22

phew - workmen have gone . Not quite finished , but as good as - a few twiddly finishing off bits, but now a totally workable step out from the doors.
I have been hiding out doing housework and crocheting. I popped to the allotment to pick a savoy and some beetroot, but though glorious sunshine, it was too windy. Not as bad as earlier , but still not pleasant.
Cake - glad to hear you have had a good morning
Willow - you are on fire at the moment - were do you fit it all in?
Selena - I am so glad to hearthe splash back came , (and the tiling is finished )- good on the new company! You will be all done soon, and you can sit back and enjoy ( and not beable to find anything in all the new kitchen cupboards , as everything goes somewhere new , if you are like me......)
Out at a committee meeting tonight, so will need to tape GBBO and watch later .

Chasingsquirrels · 17/10/2017 17:29

Sounds like all the building works are coming together book and Selena.

And you've had a busy day Willow.

I got into work just before 10am (opps), worked till 3.45pm then popped to Aldi for milk on the way to collect ds2 and a friend from rugby practice.
Ds1 is giving jogging club a miss and ds2 is taking advantage of that to not go either. I don't mind too much it means I don't have to take them, and friend who usually goes on Tuesday isn't going either. Have to get back to it when ds1's leg is better, hopefully by the start of next half term, as they haven't been for a couple of weeks.

I've finished off the fudge Blush and told ds2 not to make any more.

Chasingsquirrels · 17/10/2017 18:03

Tea not on Sad.
I'm cold and snuggled up under a duvet with ds2 Smile.
Might get the boys to cook seeing as not going to joggers and both busy tomorrow.
Just sold an old car seat for £10 via local Facebook selling group. Have plans to list lots of stuff...

TheWorldIsMyCakePop · 17/10/2017 19:40

Hi all

DS asleep and I've hit a pack of chocolate fingers. He hated the costume, moaned and whinged over that, tea, bath and pretty much everything else. Lordy, Friday can't come quickly enough so he can have a week off!

Sounds like productive days all round. Selena I'm so glad there's progress for you.

Really hope tomorrow won't be as wet as forecast ad I have outdoor plans! Night night all x

bookbook · 17/10/2017 23:07

Just a quick pop in to say goodnight
Cake - he's obviously tired, poor mite. But then , I guess you are too
Chasing good idea on the boys cooking for you. Hope you have warmed up.
No need to get dressed early tomorrow. I am out for the morning at my craft club, so need to not hang around either :)
Sleep well all
Thoughts and Prayers

TheWorldIsMyCakePop · 18/10/2017 06:16

He's exhausted book so why 5am this morning? Shock I made us stay in bed but he wasn't going back to sleep and my mind was then whirring through my to do list, so we got up in the end.

Hope you all have a good day.
