When/Where/How did you meet DP/DH?

I'm curious to know how people met their DP or DH. I'm a single mum who wants to get "back on the pitch", but don't know where to begin. I've been single for 6 years, and want to meet someone, but don't know where to begin.

Most friends are married, and seem to have no suitable/available men to introduce me to. Can't imagine myself sitting at a pub waiting to meet someone, joining a dating agency, or doing a lonely hearts classified ad. I've done an evening class, but there was no time for socialising during, and everyone seemed to run out the door for home straight after. So, I'm at a bit of a loss. I know I need to do something to make myself more available, as it is clear that Mr. Wonderful isn't going to knock on my front door......Would love to hear how others met - both conventional and unconventional! It might provide me with some inspiration, or at the very least, some good ideas.

Me and Dh are a holiday romance that did work out.

We meet in Gran Canaria almost 9 years ago and for the first 2.5 years he was at Uni 200 miles away so it was a long distance romance too.

He's worth all the hard work to keep the relationship going most of the time

I met mine at school - he threw bits of rubber at my head on the bus and I melted!! We have been together 13years and have 2 ds's!

oh this is a bit scary but anyway. Met dh at University Hall of Residence in Freshers' Week (he was already a friend of my neighbour). First date 3 weeks later. That was October 1985 and we have been married 14 years last week.

met dh at College, he was in a different block to me at the halls of residence, he had a big powerful motorbike that I kept pestering to have a ride on and one day he gave in..the rest is history...btw we were on completely different courses but Colleges are great places to meet as so many people thrown together with the same attitude to life, is there anything you might like to do in the evenings, bar pub that might involve you meeting allsorts (sorry if been suggested before but haven't read whole post)

At a Mensa meeting in a pub, I was drunk and married to someone else at the time (my marriage was on the rocks). I spotted dh to be and asked him if he would buy me dinner the following evening, he said yes and that was it.

Mensa, though it has a nerdy image, is fun in London, loads of pub meetings and parties and most Mensas I know (many more men than women in Mensa btw) just enjoy a damn good drink.

com skiing with me!! have met my future dp (he's not quite sure about it yet but we'll get to that!)that way. I was no good at it but......we'll see what happens next!

I have the same issues as you - it's hard to meet single men without joining dating stuff, but you'll get there...... have tried internet chat rooms etc, but the ones i tried (perhaps badly chosen) felt like a meat market so gave that up. chin up!

I met mine in the boat house after a rowing outing - still think he looks damn sexy in lyrca (not sure I do with my cellulite thighs and nearly 2 babies later!). So join a rowing club - there are some lovely fit men (in both senses of the word) - but disadvantages are they row (and spend a lot of time doing it).

I met my Dp on the CB. Spoke to him loads and then met up at a mutual friends house.

Through my older brother 8 years ago. Had known him and seen him around but hadn't actually spoken. Went to a winebar where a friend of ours was djing and got together with dh that night and haven't looked back since. Found out I was pregnant with ds after being together for 7 months and was worried about the pressure on the relationship, dd came along 18 months after ds. We got married 2 years ago and are very happy!

Ballroom Dancing

To quote my dads father of the bride speech"there he was sashaying (sp) across the floor and she thought 'I'll have a bit of that!'"

However I chased him for 3 months - gave up and asked him and someothers in for a meal....Roast Lamb followed by profiteroles and he never went home again!
