Who has had children after 34?

Hi all,

I post on here quite a bit. I am interested in people out there who have split up or have been single around 33/34 and have had children later in life!

If you had children later where you worried about having them later? If so what were you worried about?

What made you decide to have them later in life?

Divorced at 30 never wanted children with him (Manchild) Married DH at 36 had DD1 at 37 now 34 weeks with DC2 at 41.
I didn't leave it late on purpose but I never had the urge to have children until I met DH. Wouldn't change a thing though. Honestly believe I had them at the right time for me.

cocochanel21 · 14/02/2017 17:05

Had dd1 at 15. Never wanted anymore. Met DH at 28.Together 10 yrs when dd2 came along totally unplanned.

motherinferior · 14/02/2017 17:06

I thought I would never meet anyone who wanted to have children with me.

I met DP at 36. Had DD1 at 37 and DD2 at 50.

motherinferior · 14/02/2017 17:07

DD2 at 40! Though a friend had her three between 46 and 50 - all without intervention!

Kr1stina · 14/02/2017 18:17

I was so impressed at your 50 MI #disappointed

Left fiancée in my early 30s. Few years of happy singledom. Met Dh in mid thirties.
38 this year, just had one baby, hoping to have another ;)

Was I worried? Hmmm...well yeah, but not about some of the stuff I'd have been worried about if I had them ten years earlier. At that point I was with a bloke who was nice but obsessed with his hobby to the exclusion of all else, I was skint and I had a shit job. Now ok I'm older and pregnancy wasn't fun but I'm financially more stable with a lovely involved Dh and a. Ice house/career. I guess mainly I was worried about the increased risk of issues but that can happen at any age.

I didn't actively choose to have kids later, it just worked that way.

Two things, which might seem a bit contradictory
: 1. Be willing to take a chance. I moved countries for example to be with Dh.

  1. Don't compromise too much (of course life is compromise but don't compromise on the basics and breed with an unsuitable one if you can help it.)

And I guess, if you really want a baby, that can be done with donated sperm. The deadline for fertility is short, but the deadline for finding a life partner much longer.

A nice house.
I don't live in an igloo :)

HeadDreamer · 14/02/2017 18:26

I had mine at 36 and 39.

StylishDuck · 14/02/2017 20:15

I had DD at 32 and currently thinking about TTC no 2. I will be 34 this year. I don't consider myself particularly old to be having children.

cauliflowercheese14 · 14/02/2017 20:49

I had mine at 36 and 39 but lost two babies in between due to chromosomal issues due to maternal age. Obviously this doesn't happen to everybody but it does happen.

theheatherjane1 · 14/02/2017 20:50

Pregnant with first at 42.
Not particularly a choice but I was terminally single until I met someone when I was 38. Never expected to get pregnant really.
Who'd have thunk it?! (Not my mum, that's for sure)

SuperRainbows · 14/02/2017 20:57

Had first at 29 and fourth at 43. I had 3 early miscarriages in between second and third dcs.

dontbesillyhenry · 14/02/2017 20:58

Had my youngest last year aged 35. I didn't have any specific worries if I'm honest

LuluJakey1 · 14/02/2017 20:59

Ds1 at 35
Will be 37 when DD1 is born in April- almost 38.
I think that's enough. DH says there will be more.

Dinnerout1 · 14/02/2017 21:00

Had my twin dds at 32, and then my 1 dd one year ago and now pregnant again with dd. I'm so much more relaxed than I was when I was younger so I prefer being a mummy that's older and maturer.

Normandy144 · 14/02/2017 21:08

I split with a long term partner about a week before my 31st birthday. I met DP a few weeks after turning 32. We had various obstacles to over come (long distance relationship both living on different continents!), so by the time we ironed things out and were in a position to have kids it was several years later. I had DD1 a couple of days after turning 36 and DD2 aged 38. We are getting married next year.

tubasinthemoonlight · 14/02/2017 21:21

I split with my husband at 33 with DD age 6. Remarried at 35 and had my second child aged 36. I was widowed at the age of 48. DD now 29. DS now 20. Life goes on and I am happy to be single at 56.

FourKidsNotCrazyYet · 14/02/2017 21:30

My DH and I were 22,24,30 and 37 when we had our children. Why did we have DC4 at 37? Because obviously we didn't realise that having sex gets you pregnant GrinGrin our bonus baby is amazing and I didn't feel any different during pregnancy, worried less (that may be because it was our fourth and not our first). Labour and delivery were much the same too. I'm less stressed and worry less about him (again probably because it's DC4).

Sukitakeitoff · 14/02/2017 21:40

@Dancingtothemusicoftime - do you really mean your GGM had a baby at 58?!

I'm guessing either it's a typo or she was perhaps covering up a daughter's illegitimate birth (which used to be fairly common).

helenfagain · 14/02/2017 21:46

I got together with DP aged 33, our dc1 is 18 months. I am 38 this year.

Merlin40 · 14/02/2017 21:46

Love this thread! It's giving me hope. Great stories.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 14/02/2017 22:26

I married at 32. DS1 was born when I was 36 and DS2 when I was 39. I got pregnant very quickly both times, the pregnancies were easy and the babies were healthy. I had a bad time giving birth, but you can't have everything.

I had them late for such a range of reasons that the story would bore everyone rigid. The main one was that my DH was the first and only man I wanted to father my DC. He was so lovely. He died young, pretty tragic stuff, and it comforts me that he's still here in his DC: our two and my DSD.

supersop60 · 14/02/2017 22:26

Broke up after a long relationship at 34. Fannied around with unsuitable partners, then met DP at 39. DD at 40 and DS at 44. I don't have a problem being older and I'm determined to keep fit and healthy for as long as possible.

Wanttobeloved · 18/02/2017 20:38
