Who has had children after 34?

Hi all,

I post on here quite a bit. I am interested in people out there who have split up or have been single around 33/34 and have had children later in life!

If you had children later where you worried about having them later? If so what were you worried about?

What made you decide to have them later in life?

Whoops! Of course I didon't have ds1 at 3! 39!

ThePinkOcelot · 14/02/2017 12:56

Had dd1 at 33 and dd2 at 36. I can't say I really worried too much tbh.

alabasterangel · 14/02/2017 13:11

Married at 31, to a twunt, divorced at 35. We'd had years of infertility before and during marriage, the demise of which was him getting one of his many OWs pregnant. Hence end of marriage and twunt status.

Met now DH at 36. Baby discussion happened very early but we both accepted it was unlikely with my history. Decided to throw caution to the wind, I was pregnant in about 5 minutes. Ditto second attempt. Do first DC at 37 and second at 39. Not usual round these parts though, I'm the oldest mum in the primary playground!

guthriegirl · 14/02/2017 13:22

Met DH at 29, married at 37. DS at 39, DD at 43. Straightforward pregnancies and births ( though I did worry). Oldest in playground but not by much.

Ragwort · 14/02/2017 13:25

I had my first baby at 42 (by choice) - wasn't particularly worried about anything - what was I meant to be worried about? Confused - I genuinely wouldn't have minded if I had not been able to conceive - it was DH who was much keener on having a baby Grin.

Kr1stina · 14/02/2017 13:30

Next year my child will be the oldest in the primary school and I will be the oldest mum. I'm very proud and not remotely worried.

In fact until I joined MN it didn't even occur to me to worry, it never occurred to me that anyone else cared about my age. I'm damn sure I don't.

littlepooch · 14/02/2017 13:32

I had DD at 34 (nearly 35) and I'm pregnant again at 36. I'm still hoping for one more after this..

I have found it absolutely fine and no one has batted an eyelid about my age. Straightforward pregnancy with DD and I'm hoping the same again this time.

Pooky77 · 14/02/2017 13:35

Ended a LTR at age 34, met my now DH within a year am currently 39 and almost 40 weeks pregnant. Didn't really worry about my age just waited to try for baby until we were ready, after a year of trying we did ivf and we're lucky enough for it to work first time.

Dancingtothemusicoftime · 14/02/2017 13:38

Divorced from first H at age 34, no DC as knew from the moment I married him at 27 that we were wrong together and work/career was always my priority, plus I had no broodiness or interest in having children whatsoever. Met now DH at 35, DS at 37, DD1 at 39 and DD2 at 42. Conceived immediately with all three but we wanted DC4 and it just didn't happen. It was if my fertility had switched off overnight but we had been very lucky. Loved having children later in life and being an older mum isn't an issue for me; most of my friends had their babies in their mid to late-30's, early 40's. My GGM had 18 (!) children, her last born when she was 58. Someone I know has found she is VERY unexpectedly (natural conception) going to be a mum again at the age of 51 - her DC are in their 20's, same DH.

HerRoyalNotness · 14/02/2017 14:42

Had mine at 34. 37, 41 and due DD2 just after I turn 44.

Didn't meet DH until I was 32, so it's just how it panned out.

macnab · 14/02/2017 15:06

Had both my dc after the age of 34 (35 and 37) Had been with DH since early 20s, married when we were 30 but didn't feel ready for kids until I was 34. Never had any concerns about age being a risk or anything, I had healthy pregnancies and babies both times.

goodthinking99 · 14/02/2017 15:57

Had given up on the whole partner thing at 35, met ex DP at 36, then we both thought 'now or never' for a baby at 40...had DD two weeks off my 42nd birthday.

Left ex DP at 44, thought never again with the whole partner thing...but am now looking forward to celebrating my 50th birthday soon with my lovely, lovely DP of 3.5 years standing. The moral of the story? Never say never Wink

Bluebellevergreen · 14/02/2017 16:02

Had rubbish relationships, I didnt meet the right person until I met DH when I was 32
Now pregnant at 35

raindripsonruses · 14/02/2017 16:05

Had dd when 41. Single for most of my 30s . Met dh when I least expected and marry at 39. Plenty of ups and downs (sadly health related). Age 51, still going strong.

JustHavinABreak · 14/02/2017 16:12

Same relationship since 22. Married at 31. DS1 at 32. DS2 at 35. DD1 at 38.

TheTartOfAsgard · 14/02/2017 16:14

Had one at 22 and one at 23 with exh.
I'll be 36 when this one will be born.

Eolian · 14/02/2017 16:14

Met dh at 29, married at 32, dc at 34 and 36. Pretty normal timescale among my peers.

BertrandRussell · 14/02/2017 16:15

Started LTR at 19. First child at 37. Is this a record?

Smellybluecheese · 14/02/2017 16:15

Met DH at 34. Had DD at 41. I wasn't sure I wanted children so we didn't start ttc until I was 41. Conceived straight away. Very easy, straight forward pregnancy.

Smellybluecheese · 14/02/2017 16:17

Oh and I have three uni friends who also had their first children over 40. Two of them have gone on to have second children since. Our other housemate who had her children 'young' was 35 when she had her first.

AmethystMoon · 14/02/2017 16:20

Divorced at 33, dd at 37, all good!

Happybunny19 · 14/02/2017 16:24

Didn't change relationship but two of my three kids were after 34. I love being an older mum. All my partying days are over and we love staying home doing family stuff.

CityMole · 14/02/2017 16:33

Got together with ExH at 27 but never wanted kids. Divorced at 32, met DP at 36, decided at 39 that maybe I did want a child. Got pregnant before I'd actually come off the pill properly. So, had DS at 40 and now, at 41, trying to decide whether we want another. I don't know many folk who are having babies in their early 30s any more- it definitely seems to be mid-late 30s in our group (and then there's me who waited even longer). I had a really easy pregnancy and quick recovery to full fitness, but I was pretty fit and healthy before so hard to tell whether that has compensated for age in some way?

Mum4Fergus · 14/02/2017 16:34

Had DS when I was 41 Smile

imip · 14/02/2017 16:46

In my 20s I had a 7 yr relationship that ended, basically bc I was going out with an arsehole!

I met dh at 29, married at 31 but experienced infertility. Sadly, my first dd was stillborn at 34, and I then went on to have four more healthy dds at 35, 37, 38 and 40. They are 19, 20 and 22 months apart.
