Married with kids and was just wondering how often your husband goes out drinking in the evening after work with work colleagues . What do you consider to be reasonable ? He is in his early 50s.thank you

After work with collegues- never. I go maybe 2-3 times per year.

With his own friends and brothers etc maybe once a month

FriedSprout · 02/12/2016 20:17

Mid 50's, maybe once a month, occasionally twice. Meets friends at lunchtime and they spend the afternoon gossiping over their pints. Smile

SittingAround1 · 02/12/2016 20:18

Hardly ever. He's not big on socialising. He'll quite often invite me if there's a work do (so I can do the talking). In fact he likes it when I organise things with my friends and he can pick and choose if he comes or not- less pressure I think.

AddToBasket · 02/12/2016 20:19

DH - never

Me - about 2/3 times a month

What's making you suspicious? Could you join them?

FantasticBeasts · 02/12/2016 20:20

Never - he never has done (51). He rides his bike for a few hours a week alone and that is it. Drinking isn't the done thing in his type of work and when he isn't at work he prefers to be at home.

SittingAround1 · 02/12/2016 20:23

As to what I think is reasonable, it depends if there are children & their ages.I wouldn't like to be left doing the evenings\ bedtimes all the time. It needs to be shared so both partners can go out (although this not a problem for me-see PP). He doesn"t mind me going out at all.

ShatnersBassoon · 02/12/2016 20:28

He rarely goes out with colleagues after work, unless he's working away when he'll sometimes go for dinner with whomever is with him.

He goes to the local two or three times a week, and I'll go with him on one of those times. He likes socialising.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/12/2016 20:31

Dh - never
Me - once every two months maybe

Groovee · 02/12/2016 20:33

Never with colleagues as they all need to drive.

He goes out with friends to most home football matches and about 3-6 times a year on other days or nights out.

glassbeads · 02/12/2016 20:37

With colleagues, about three times a year, usually for organised events on company expenses.

He doesn't really have friends that he goes out with. We go out together as a couple about once a week. We have teenage dc so I'd consider it reasonable if he wanted to go out more often, maybe 1 or 2 times a week (I'm out of the house two evenings a week for hobbies/sports myself, so I wouldn't really notice).

Bertucci · 02/12/2016 20:44

About twice a year, if that.

My husband plays sport approximately 3-4 nights every week after work....sometimes a drink afterwards before home....it is what it is!!!

Londonmamabychance · 02/12/2016 20:54

Every Friday for pints but back at 10pm. We have a 2 year old DD.

Expecting another baby in two weeks, and don't expect him to go out at all in the first months. Once things are settled again I'd be fine with him reverting to the Friday beers routine.

Badhairday1001 · 02/12/2016 21:00

A couple of times a year of that. I wish he would go out more because I go out/ meet up with friends every few weeks and feel guilty because he never goes out. He's not bothered though, he enjoys being in.

MarciaBlaine · 02/12/2016 21:08

Once a month or so. I probably go out more often.

AmberEars · 02/12/2016 21:11

About once a fortnight most of the time - more frequently at the moment for Xmas drinks.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 02/12/2016 21:22

Late 30s. He hardly ever goes out. He's going out on Wednesday next week and last went out about 3 or 4 weeks ago. He last went to the football around 6 months ago.
Sometimes I wish he would go out more because I love having the house to myself once the dc are in bed!

6demandingchildren · 02/12/2016 21:25

In the past 20 years he has been out 4 times drinking. But at least 3 times a week running swimming or cycling

user1479495984 · 02/12/2016 21:30

Never bar Christmas meal. I always thought this was a generally made up thing, none of my friends 'go for drinks' with colleagues.

Gillybean76 · 02/12/2016 21:33

Very rarely. During the summer if he finishes at a decent time he might nip for a pint with mates on a Friday but he's back by 6-7pm.
Every now and then he'll go out with work colleagues for a curry and a few beers but it's usually a week night so he's back before midnight.
And he plays football once a week but is home by 8.30.

Forgettheworld · 02/12/2016 21:34

I can't believe how many people or their partners go out 2-3 times a week. I go out about 4 times a year, DP a bit more. He would definitely go out more if he could but he works most weekends.

user1479495984 · 02/12/2016 21:37

I don't know how you all have the energy. I can hardly move off the settee after work Shock

mummyto2monkeys · 02/12/2016 21:38

My dh is my full time carer, but when he did work it was offshore, he would maybe have a night out once a year with colleagues. He doesnt and didn't go out often, but I know he needs male company so around twice a month, my carer comes in on an evening and dh will go to our local, where he can relax and catch up with his friends x

FantasticBeasts · 02/12/2016 21:39

Same here User - I am done in (usually do full time hours in 3.5 days) am good for nothing at all generally in the evenings having been up since 5am. Going out is not on my list, nor DH's. He works away a lot and is always happy to be at home.
