DH 'doesn't believe' in Valentines day. He gets all ranty about it being an excuse for shops to put the prices of chocolates and flowers up by at least 50%.
He also claims he doesn't need Clinton cards to tell him when to do stuff and can be romantic any day of the year - although I have yet to wring an example out of him

We had an Indian takeway in front of the TV, which we couldn't really watch because ds was wandering about, stealing poppadum and spilling milk on the sofa...it was...fine.

Bucketsofdynomite · 15/02/2007 11:04

Mine was awful, I'm so broody and dh made it clear once and for all that he doesn't want another one. I just cried all night because I've been trying really hard not to pester him but I had silly hopes. I'm out tonight and tomorrow night luckily, I'm so not ready to face up to it and get on with life.

morningpaper · 15/02/2007 11:04

I bought DH the DVD of Walk The Line and we watched that and I made some very fabulously tasty steak and drank a lot for a schoolnight

It was very nice

Really surprised. first time in 10years. DP went all out. 12 beautiful red roses(and not from Tesco. Impressed!!) then all beautifully boxed, sitting on the bed 2 sets of underwear. (he has never bought knickers for me) So another first. Lovely meal, even though he did insist we have the tele on. (can't miss Corrie!!). So one happy lady here. and happy lady = happy man!

CurlyN · 15/02/2007 11:08

ohhhh buckets. big hug.

Nip · 15/02/2007 11:08

Not very romantic but had a take away curry - although DH decided to order a vindaloo and suffer for the reat of the evening! (idiot!) - ha ha ha

Mine was nice! LOL

Emskilou · 15/02/2007 11:09

In all honesty it was totally crap. Not even a box of chocs.

I went to a lot of trouble to make a meal with champagne, and it was all I could do to get dh off the internet!

fridayatlast · 15/02/2007 11:13

I was so looking forward to Valentines. I got chocolates and flowers. We had champagne while we were getting ready to go out (got engaged 3 weeks ago). All excited, dressed up, sexy undies under little dress etc etc. Lovely restaurant, v romantic, man playing the guitar, candles ...

... then a HUGE ROW just after the starters (which was actually prompted by something I'd read on Mumsnet - are lots of men disapproving of MN? Think he feels threatened by it). I sat for the rest of the meal in uncontrollable tears with everyone else looking at me like I was weird, we left without dessert and walked home in silence.

What gets me most, and he ALWAYS does this after a row, is that we wake up this morning and he acts like nothing has happened and everything is fine ? has the gall to ask 'what's the matter, sweetie?'!!!

Sorry, just needed to rant. Aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhh

funnypeculiar · 15/02/2007 11:15

aw, buckets, sorry to hear that
I had white roses (not really a red rose girl), cooked a lovely beef-in-ale stew, and brioche&butter pud (dh's fav) and sat in fron of the log fire talking about life. Nice. I had fancy pants waiting on the bed for me too

Charleesunnysunsun · 15/02/2007 11:19

Mine was lovley!

Very traditional meal out with cocktails and champers then home for some bedtime fun!

It was a real treat as we never go out by ourselves but my mum was a star and came to babysit for us.

CurlyN · 15/02/2007 11:31

no mellowma, my roses haven't wilted. Their not the tesco variety

Lullabyloo · 15/02/2007 11:33

ds stayed up as a special treat and we all had a candlelight Valentine seafood supper together.
It was loooooooooovely

Oh fridayatlast, sorry to hear that.

I worked late, got home, made DP his favourite meal, watched the Brits, drank a lot of wine. He LOVED the food and then we went to bed with very little sleep

CurlyN · 15/02/2007 12:05

and in fairness tesco did do a brill job of making sure no man of a good woman was going to forget valentines. I nearly fell over the sign!

princessmel · 15/02/2007 12:18

First I had a funeral to go to then we had to take our courtesy car back to the garage in the afternoon and I had to come home in the back of dh van romantic. It only has 3 seats in front and dh, dd and ds were in them.
So now we have no car and I'm housebound.

Then we had to take dd and dh to the doctors as dd has another ear infection. 3rd lot of Ab's since start of year . Plus dd,ds and dh have conjuntivitis.

Then after the kids went to bed, I tidied up my pigsty house and sat with dh and his weepy, goopy, bloodshot eye and watched the Brits and football.

It was great!

rorytiger · 15/02/2007 12:56

hmmmmmm princessmel - sounds like my night except I spent it in the kitchen watching America's next top model and he was in the sittingroom playing his xbox. Ahhh the romance of it all........

fortyplus · 15/02/2007 13:00

Round at a friend's house for pasta bake - dh came too - but so did all our children.

It was fun, though.

dh bought me a chocolate heart on a stick from Thornton's even though I told him not to - can't stand all the hype.

twinsetandpearls · 15/02/2007 13:01

had a row, I am currently trying to find a hotel for me and dd to go to for a few nights
