How did you meet your DP/ DH?

I'm too scared for online dating. But I don't go out much - there's work, and uni.. but everyone at uni is very young and carefree and I only work a shift or two every couple of weeks so not much chance of love blossoming there.

So I wanted to hear your stories! Where/ how did you meet your significant other?

Legal. And quite common

GinAndSonic · 30/10/2016 20:58

I met him in high school. Didn't get together till 13 years later though. We weren't even particularly good friends back then, he was just a boy I knew.

Myusernameismyusername · 30/10/2016 21:03

I was interested as it wasn't clear if you meant teacher and pupil when you got together or after the child left school. Or adult education

timeforheroes · 30/10/2016 21:06

Technically he messaged me via an online app...but I had already met him briefly (5 mins) through mutual friends.

Tunnocksmallow · 30/10/2016 21:11

Online. The first person either of us met from the site. We were both so nervous!

We've been together 3.5 years and about to move in together.
Try it, I know a few successful online dating relationships Grin

RatImpaledOnnaStake · 30/10/2016 21:15

His ex-best friend was with my ex-best friend, our relationship grew, the best friendships exploded. They are divorcing now and we are happily married.

OhTheRoses · 30/10/2016 21:16

At a ball. Both with others. Was introduced, eyes met, read his placename and a small inner voice within me said "I'll marry him". We danced. I gave myself a talking to.

A few weeks later he phoned me at work and asked me to dinner. It was great. I went to NY for two weeks and rang him. Went to the theatre when I got back, he held my hand. We had supper. We have rarely been apart since. 27.5 years ago. Still love him.

BeastofCraggyIsland · 30/10/2016 21:16

Through mutual friends at the climbing wall. We're both obsessed with climbing so they thought we'd be a match made in heaven Grin

LadyFuchsiaGroan · 30/10/2016 21:21

Over the PlayStation Grin Long distance relationship for a year then we finally decided to move in together

bonsgirl · 30/10/2016 21:21

At a bus stop!

I only spoke to him cos he was wearing an AC/DC hoodie (my favourite band)

We've been friends for over 11 years and lovers for almost 4! Grin

At work, first day of a new job. I was working with horses and had just walked down to the stables with the boss. A tall, broad chested man with huge blue eyes, looking like sex on legs in his jeans and check shirt, strolled through the barn (to get a look at the new groom, I heard later).

My tongue just about fell out of my head and the boss said, "That's (dh name), he's the estate manager. If you need anything, just radio him."

Swoon.

It turned out the feeling was mutual, and we've now been together for 18 years (married nearly 14). I was only in that job for 6 months!

Endmoor1405 · 30/10/2016 21:24

Online! Absolutely head over heels the first time I set eyes on him. Been together 3 years and getting married in July. Seriously give it a go! We were very similar in that we didn't go out a huge amount and it would never have happened ever in a million years if it wasn't for POF!!

PurpleNurple69 · 30/10/2016 21:29

In a pub! My friend actually went up to him and said "my mate fancies you" GrinBlush Said in a proper NE Scotland accent! It worked though - 21 years later and we're
still very happy!

UnoriginalNN · 30/10/2016 21:30

Kept sort of crossing paths without actually meeting (same social groups, would be mentioned to each other when the other was absent but didn't actually meet for months)

We met at the perfect time - both recently single. Married now with a gorgeous DD and DD2 on the way Smile

Aroundtheworldandback · 30/10/2016 22:32

Met Dh online in my late 30's. What's to be scared of? You can sit there in your pj's with no make up typing away and seeing what's out there, and you don't need to meet anyone unless you're 100% sure you really want to!

I chatted online weeks to Dh before I even spoke to him on the phone. We emailed and I could tell by how he expressed himself that he was a cut above the rest- an intelligent, kind family man.

Had to metaphorically kiss a few frogs but 10 years on I have absolutely no doubt that I am the luckiest woman on the planetSmile.

You really have nothing to lose.

Sunbeam18 · 30/10/2016 22:37

We knew each other as neighbours but were both on same online dating site and he sent me a message on that !

IntendedParent · 30/10/2016 22:45

An app!

Princesspinkgirl · 30/10/2016 23:03

Online with current partner we're now expecting our 1st baby due Christmas day Halo give it a go

JC23 · 31/10/2016 08:26

On a night out. He was a friend of a friend.

YetAnotherGuy · 31/10/2016 08:42

Myusernameismyusername

It was at secondary school

KeepsAwayTheNargles · 31/10/2016 09:03

At a pub through a mutual friend :)

mamarach26 · 31/10/2016 09:10

In a club, he was the bouncer! He poured my drink away and said somebody swiped it and bought me another, smooooth!

YvaineStormhold · 31/10/2016 09:13

On a writing course.

I was early, and as I pulled into the car parking space, he was doing the same.

We both sat sorting through our paperwork, and I remember thinking 'He's just like me.' I knew he'd be important to me.

That was ten years ago next year. He's the love of my life and I can't imagine life without him.

Notmehonestly · 31/10/2016 09:14

I've name changed as it's so outing. At a bus stop...I talk to everyone and just so happened that we kept bumping into each other after that initial meeting. Love at first sight for him, he was engineering all this bumping into each other. Fate though as we'd never have met if my bus had been on time. But I totally adore him...more than ever 20odd years later.

MuseumOfCurry · 31/10/2016 09:35

A wedding in an ancient, crumbling palace on the Bosphorus River. The most exquisite night of my life.
