I'm too scared for online dating. But I don't go out much - there's work, and uni.. but everyone at uni is very young and carefree and I only work a shift or two every couple of weeks so not much chance of love blossoming there.

So I wanted to hear your stories! Where/ how did you meet your significant other?

OP posts:

We met at uni but were not v close, kept in touch and then met up a few years later for a beer that turned into dinner that turned into more beer that turned into 8 years, 2DC and all good things Grin

Twitter. Completely by accident as a. I thought he was someone different and b. I had sworn off men forever as they are complete bastards. 3 years in I have never been happier, he's my dream boyfriend Smile

DoubleCarrick · 30/10/2016 19:26

I love these threads. Met DH on a fetish website Grin

MrsBartlet · 30/10/2016 19:30

At work but online hadn't been invented then Smile

Overthinker2016 · 30/10/2016 19:36

I met mine through friends.
Think it's good to go out as much as you can if you are single and looking. You never know who you might bump into.

BrownAjah · 30/10/2016 19:37

Online!

Groovee · 30/10/2016 19:40

Dh's brother told him I fancied him. His soon to be wife, my friend, told me he fancied me. Not true on either accounts Grin. Set us up on a blind date. Then 19 and a half years later we are still together.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 30/10/2016 19:42

We mis-spent our youth on opposite sides of the same pub. I hung out with the punks, he was round the bikers' side. When we first met I was 16 and he was 18. We clearly fancied each other but we were never single at the same time, so for years we were friends, but not very close friends, who exchanged the odd lustful glance at the end of the night.

I was nearly 30 by the time we finally got together (with a lot of water under the bridge). We just bumped into each other one NYE, started snogging at midnight and haven't really stopped for the last 17 years Smile

In a wine bar (it was the 1980's!). Complete with dodgy 80's perm. Me, not him.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 30/10/2016 19:59

He was working behind the bar at a pub I decided to go to for a change of scene.

MaQueen · 30/10/2016 20:13

At university. He asked me to dance in a student night club, but I said no because I was nursing a badly broken heart.

Over the next few weeks we kept bumping into each other (later learned he'd basically stalked me Grin) and he kept asking me out, and I kept saying no...I thought he was very attractive, but couldn't face another relationship.

Finally agreed to go on a date with him, and it lasted the whole weekend. He. Just. Blew. Me. Away.

I fell in love with him that weekend. And 25 years, and two DDs later, I have never stopped falling in love with him.

girlandboy · 30/10/2016 20:17

At work. In an aircraft hangar.

Mamabear14 · 30/10/2016 20:18

Online. Tinder to be exact.

Boolovessulley · 30/10/2016 20:22

Online.

PaperdollCartoon · 30/10/2016 20:28

At a rave in Islington, he was with mutual friends. End of the night I invited one friend back to mine for the night/day (it was 6am) , she said sure, can STB MrPaperdoll come. I said ok. A week later we started getting together. That was four years ago. I didn't 'know' the minute I saw him wasn't quite in my right mind but I did within a couple of days.

Just massively outed myself, might need to name change!

OSETmum · 30/10/2016 20:29

In the sauna at the gym 😂

PotteringAlong · 30/10/2016 20:30

YetAnotherGuy · 30/10/2016 20:31

Myusernameismyusername · 30/10/2016 20:35

Idrinkandiknowstuff · 30/10/2016 20:37

MrsRedFly · 30/10/2016 20:37

Martial arts!

Notverylucky · 30/10/2016 20:38

Chat room, when they first started to be popular (I think), so almost 17 years ago.

LauLau93 · 30/10/2016 20:39

Facebook 5 years ago! Now we're engaged with a beautiful daughyer and ironically have now both deleted Facebook.
Give online a go! Good luck.

griffinsss · 30/10/2016 20:47

I met mine at various school open day/information evenings when trying to choose a school for my DDs. We just kept bumping into each other and eventually I asked him out for a drink and things just escalated. No fancy or interesting stories hereGrin

Try online OP! My brother met his wife online and had to sift through the rif raf but got lucky eventually! It's always worth a try, even just to practice having a flirt!

bluenose1986 · 30/10/2016 20:50

My very first job when I left school fell madly in love with the older boy that was the bartender in the restaurant I was a waitress in.
Everyone said he wouldn't get with me because I was two years younger than him! so I plucked up the courage and asked him out on a date Blush.
15 years together 6years married and two little boys together we couldn't be happier and always laugh about me doing all the chasing but now it's definitely the other way round.
