Reconnecting 2016: Making new friends

As there seem to be so many of us trying to make new friends (and I don't want to derail a thread in AIBU), I thought it might be time to start a new thread where we can see if there are any likeminded MNers who live near us.

A little about me, in case there is anybody who lives near me: I live in East Anglia with DP and two DSs (aged 5 and 2). I'm a SAHM and soon to be postgraduate student (finally got around to doing my psychology conversion). My main hobby is writing and I hope to be a published author one day. I love literature, politics, The Simpsons, drinking coffee, and shopping for books and makeup.

There was a Facebook group set up at the time, which you're welcome to join. It's called MN Social (it's a closed group, so nobody will know that you've joined).

Just had a thought - I hope it's okay to mention the Facebook group. It's only meant to be in addition to people connecting on this thread, only I've made it sound like that was the main point of the thread. Smile

Two groups come up when searching for MN social. I went with the one with the female admin ;)

Also, doesn't a group have to be secret as opposed to closed if you don't want other FB friends to see posts etc?

I never knew about secret groups, Eeyore. Just had a quick look and can't seem to change the setting, so unless anybody knows how to do it, I'll have to do a bit of research.

I'm not sure about posting the link on here, because it might show the members. The thing about a closed groups is that it won't show up on your own profile, but if somebody else searches for the group, they might see some members listed. Hopefully those searching would all be searching for the right reasons though... Or am I massively overthinking this? (probably)

Don't forget, if you don't use FB, or don't want to join the group, you can always post on this thread instead. Hopefully we can get a few MNers together. Making new friends can be so hard.

Re closed groups: apparently the list of members is visible but only people in the group can see posts.

I'm near Edinburgh, if there's anyone up this way. I have three small children so getting out and about can be tough, but it would be lovely to have someone to meet up with every now and then.

Found it! For some reason I could only get it on the desktop site, not the apps.

I'm a SAHM in north Herts and sometimes it feels like I'm the only woman in the county who doesn't WOH.

It'd be nice to have people to go for a drink with without getting on the train to London too.
