gotta - I'm a cynical old witch though... Grin

Your ex sounds a right catch! But some men just aren't into that or think they don't need to say it.

OLD and dating in general is such a minefield.

MadeMan · 27/11/2014 13:59

@gotta - to me it seems a bit over familiar addressing you as gorgeous when he doesn't really know you. Obviously it's meant to flatter, but like bunches of flowers and chocolates, a bit over enthusiastic in my opinion at this stage.

MadeMan · 27/11/2014 14:05

To add as well, it would be better if he got to know you a little bit first gotta so as to gauge whether you might like to be called gorgeous; some women probably would like it, but to assume that every woman goes bandy for blatant flattery is a bit presumptuous.

gottafindaman4yagirl · 27/11/2014 15:58

MadeThink I will approach with caution. He's asked me to meet him on a week day because he's off work. I have told him I can't do a week day at the moment, which is true.

MadeMan · 27/11/2014 16:16

He's probably fine gotta; some men can get away with being bold and a bit cheeky, while others it just comes across as creepy cheesy and cringeworthy.

Depends how it makes you feel, which is why I personally wouldn't call a woman 'gorgeous' unless I knew her a little bit and thought I could get away with it without looking like a complete berk.

MysteryMan1 · 27/11/2014 19:34

MadeMan, with you on that!

I have made OLD work - not sure how much I have managed to get a date tomorrow night and Saturday night.

And cheekily I asked my optician out so seeing her next week. Not bad for a run off the mill eye examination if I say so myself!

They will probably turn out to be rubbish but here's hoping...

Arrowminta · 27/11/2014 20:49

Mystery, you are on fire atm, are you a hottie by any chance? Smile

DollyRocker1 · 27/11/2014 20:58

Bizarrely I'm sitting on the train next to my date - he lives a few stops down the line. Nice enough chap but another no chemistry one and we didn't have much in common either. Think I'm just gonna stick to Eharmony even if it's a bit slow. As my match dates haven't been for me.

SuperFlyHigh · 27/11/2014 21:25

Well at the end of all that I went to a photography exhibition in portobello road with another friend rather than the flamenco. It was good but last minute.

However in the rush to get onto overground i saw a gorgeous pilot at foot of stairs at clapham junction having coffee at a cafe - I did a double take but had to rush for train! Still cursing now! Grin

SuperFlyHigh · 27/11/2014 21:27

dolly I was on EHarmony ages ago but found the men not up to much and was with match Crapfinity but no joy apart from meeting a boyfriend there.

What do you like about EHarmony?

DollyRocker1 · 27/11/2014 21:41

Super well I've had 5 dates and the only one I would have been compatible with was the Eharmony one. We've actually stayed friends and met up for coffee and cake on Sunday. But there's the romantic element missing even there.

I do quite like the guided communication and the fact that in principle the matches should share similar values. I feel with match and Soulmates I'm way off even if they seem like someone I should get on with on paper.

DollyRocker1 · 27/11/2014 22:18

Do you find that the more dates you go on the better you get at choosing good'uns or is it still just as hit and miss?

MadeMan · 27/11/2014 22:22

@MysteryMan - Nicely done asking out your optician. Smile

@Dolly - Somebody should create Train Dating where singles can casually roam around the carriages and meet up for coffee and a Cadbury Bar Six in the buffet car.

@Super - Maybe he's not really a pilot but shops at The Flight Store.

MadeMan · 27/11/2014 22:24

"Do you find that the more dates you go on the better you get at choosing good'uns or is it still just as hit and miss?"

I think it's still hot or miss, but you probably get better at knowing what you're after.

MadeMan · 27/11/2014 22:27

^ Actually that post of mine made no sense because I agreed with both points.

And I should have put hit and miss.

DollyRocker1 · 27/11/2014 22:36

Hot would be good. I've forgotten what it's like to fancy someone.

mariposaazul · 27/11/2014 22:46

Jesye you should definitely look into volunteering e.g. 2x half days per week doesn't detract from job search & actually enhances it because you are doing something. It doesn't have to be something advertised at job centre e.g. charity shops often need helpers & they are thrilled to get someone younger e.g. with some computer skills. Just do it!
Hanging around MN is not a substitute for real life. You seem so buffeted by the behaviour of so-called friends and unreliable blokes. Volunteers are genuinely appreciated & in time it could lead to other things to do. You need to get out there & do something worthwhile so you value yourself more & then others will too

MysteryMan1 · 28/11/2014 06:50

Arrow-I wouldn't say that but I am not bad if I say so myself! Regarding womrn, looks are all well and good etc but not really what makes me attracted to them tbh.

Yep, the optician thing was a chance encounter. She was very attractive so looking forward to that :)

jesy · 28/11/2014 07:46

Hi all
Feeling a bit brighter today, had a good chat with a text mate, he lives a five minute drive from me we have never met despite that.

He was saying how he going to town Xmas fare at weekend , and to cut a long story short he said did I want to join him and his dog lol
And I've said yes , he did suggest I bought my dog but she'll find it to stressful.

He not my type , BUT I have decided that he seems a decent bloke and take a chance, after all I even made him a Christmas gift last year lol

jesy That sounds like a plan, something to look forward to at the weekend. I didn't want to be alone last weekend so stayed with my parents. This weekend I will be alone but I am ok with that now.
A decent bloke is half the battle, have fun.

DollyRocker1 · 28/11/2014 09:26

Have fun Jesy.

SuperFlyHigh · 28/11/2014 09:42

MadeMan - he was a pilot had his uniform on etc - it was a typical Officer and Gentleman moment (not in white) and made my day... Grin

SuperFlyHigh · 28/11/2014 10:15

Dolly - I found that you do get better at meeting good uns OLD but it can still be hit and miss too.

As MadeMan says its still hit and miss but you DO get better knowing what/who you want.

But actually finding them is another matter... I settled for less with Kent Lad and another man I met on Match Crapfinity (but dated).

I suppose your net gets smaller as you age.

Glad you feel better today Jesy and good luck with the date at the weekend.

jesy · 28/11/2014 11:16

I'm not thinking of it as a date.
Physically he not my type but he seems a good bloke and I've made that mistake before .

Late last year I started to chat to a bloke on pof , didn't fancy him but he was funny , chatty , kind, a job, car , lovely little cottage five min from me when he asked me out I turned him down and I regretted it but then he met this girl and I lost out !

Nothing may come of non date but least I'll know.

Blossomflowers · 28/11/2014 13:42

jesy Glad you have something to look forward to.

My weekend looking pretty bleak, things went all quiet with MR Music, he kept asking about shoes seemed a bit odd so I said hope he did not have a foot fetish, since then zilch. ho hum
