This may sound trivial, but I don't think it is. Music can make a big difference to our mood.
There's so many victim songs in our culture "What can I do to make you love me?" Kind of thing. But what about the strong, I can do this songs?

I'll start: "I'm still standing" Elton John - bernie taupin knew what he was writing about.

After3 years with the absolute NFH, I finally got listened to and believed and a promise was made to move him(HA property). It was Xmas eve and as I drove away from the meeting, this came on the car radio.....Jonny Nash 'I can see clearly'.

So right, so apt, and suddenly there was a future.

springlamb · 14/10/2014 21:08

IndianBlueGlass · 14/10/2014 21:22

Great thread. Just sick of my infinite playlist of 'songs of exquisite heartbreak' and enjoying the uplifting stuff!

IndianBlueGlass, I couldn't bear to listen to songs of exquisite heartbreak, I'd dissolve in a puddle of pain. I've had to hurriedly exit a few shops when heartbreak songs have been played. That's why I started this thread.

I watch Gabrielle's Rise Again video, psyching myself to finish the fight.

I was the one who recommended Gossip's "Move in the Right Direction" and I still heartily recommend it now.

Can I recommend some more? I passed many a heartbroken hour compiling lists!

IndianBlueGlass · 15/10/2014 18:14

Me too BeeOrchid! I'm having to avoid most music at present. But this thread has introduced me to La Roux's Bulletproof, which I've had on a loop since!

BeeOrchid · 15/10/2014 18:16

And sing them mournfully.

Labi Siffre - Something Inside So Strong.

This song kept me going through a very difficult divorce.
Monny · 16/10/2014 00:59

I'm not going to give a specific song (partly because I think the band I like most of all could identify me). However, I found that listening to the music I loved from the best period of my life gradually empowered me. The music evoked feelings from a period of my life when I was stronger and happier, and gradually reminded me of who I was and who I still am. Tardis

Gossip's "Move in the Right Direction"

I'd never heard this before reading this thread but love it.

This is a brilliant thread.

Reach for the Stars - S Club 7 ( blushing a bit )
Born This Way - Lady GaGa
I want to break free - Queen
We are the champions - Queen
Hate (I Really Don’t Like You) – Plain White T’s

swingonastar · 16/10/2014 02:50

S Club 7 is a brilliant suggestion!

A new colleague was being treated horribly by some of the bitches in my department last year, and she was seriously stressed out due to still being in her probation period. One morning when I knew she'd be driving in full of dread, I sent her a link to S Club 7 'Bring It All Back', and she and her son blasted it out in the car as she dropped him off!

Needless to say she has moved on to bigger and better things :-)

CatWitch · 16/10/2014 02:58

The Rising- Bruce Springsteen
Independence Day- Martine Mcbride
I Still Believe - The Call
Better Be Good To Me- Tina Turner

swingonastar · 16/10/2014 03:14

Brilliant, isn't it CatWitch?!

I love the whole 'who the hell are you to judge me?' vibe about it.

I also meant to add Meredith Brooks to my long list:

CatWitch · 16/10/2014 03:36

I love her "pull no punches" lines..She knows where the skeletons are and is not afraid to dig them up!
