This may sound trivial, but I don't think it is. Music can make a big difference to our mood.
There's so many victim songs in our culture "What can I do to make you love me?" Kind of thing. But what about the strong, I can do this songs?

I'll start: "I'm still standing" Elton John - bernie taupin knew what he was writing about.

My Old School by Steely Dan

'California - tumbles into the sea - that'll be the day I go back to Annandale - - - and I'm NEVER GOING BACK - TO MY OLD - SCHOOOOOOL'

something very cathartic about it even if what you're singing about has nothing to do with your school...

Yes by Macalmont and butler....I sing my heart out to that even now...

My latest favourites are "I'm every woman" and "ain't no mountain high enough"

When I'm being super-mum in the mornings, 2 different nursery/school drops, a walk, car ride and I make my train to work with 3 seconds to spare, I put those on and remind myself that I CAN be a good parent in my own :)

Big love to all the other super mums out there Grin

She's got a ticket to ride by The Beatles Grin

I think I'm gonna be sad
I think it's today, yeah
The girl that's driving me mad
Is going away, yeah

Oh, she's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
But she don't care

I don't know why she's riding so high
She ought to think twice
She ought to do right by me
Before she gets to saying goodbye
She ought to think twice
She ought to do right by me

She said that living with me
Is bringing her down, yeah
For she would never be free
When I was around

Ah, she's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
But she don't care

My baby don't care, my baby don't care
My baby don't care, my baby don't care
My baby don't care, my baby don't care

. A mate described it as 41/2 minutes of hate, but I use it as a pick-me-up.

Lyrics:

Shut your fucking mouth.
You don't know a single thing about me.
So I heard what you said when he walked away.
Don't you think I can add up the numbers.
It's a sour taste.
A knowledge I wish I'd never have gained.
So you think you could match me?
Well these are the things I see.

[Chorus:]
One perfect body. One twisted mind.
Starvation and loathing.
We fuck 'til it bleeds.
Scratch claw and scream.

'Til it feels like I'm almost alive...
These are the words to justify
All against all.

I'm so sick and tired of it. Treat me like meat.
Tear me to pieces and feed the dogs.
A thousand polite tiny lies,
And I've memorized every single one of them.
Did you think for a second I'd give you a taste -
Well I'm sorry to say:
You could turn yourself inside out and I'd still walk away.

[Chorus:]
One perfect body. One twisted mind.
Starvation and loathing.
We fuck 'til it bleeds.
Scratch claw and scream.

'Til it feels like I'm almost alive...
These are the words to justify
All against all.

Broken Promises.
Like ashes through my fingers.
It eats away my senses and my soul.
I wither - perhaps I said too much?
I just want somebody I can trust.

[Chorus:]
One perfect body. One twisted mind.
Starvation and loathing.
We fuck 'til it bleeds.
Scratch claw and scream.

'Til it feels like I'm almost alive...
These are the words to justify
All against all.

Note: have corrected where the uploader got the lyrics wrong. Blush

Leona Lewis - better in time. not my usual taste in music but I love how it acknowledges that it hurts, even when it's the right thing to do. And it'll be ok Wink

I've only had a chance to YouTube a couple of these but I've fallen in love with Gabrielle's Rise Again. I feel like the boxer in the video, psyching myself to go out there again, only not being defeated this time.
Funny if you could see or know me, I'm petite, don't even like squishing spiders and a peaceful person. Yet the whole boxing imagery spoke to something in me - my dad, uncles and grandad mentioned else thread were boxers and I've been trying to channel their indomitable spirit as I fight my way out of this corner.
Hope I don't sound over dramatic, but I feel like I'm in the fight of my life. If I don't win it, I'll be destroyed as a person.

Thanks IsabellaofFrance. And everyone else.
