how long to wait between first and second dates

conistonoldwoman · 27/04/2014 19:42

Had an enjoyable date on Saturday and and my date said it would be nice to meet up again. No firm plans made at the time and so far , 24 hours later, no contact from him.
Should I take this as he's not keen to pursue things?
Reluctant to 'chase' after him but I did really like him!

He will contact you on Tuesday.

conistonoldwoman · 27/04/2014 20:42

How do you know?!

OP posts:
MadeMan · 27/04/2014 20:49

Yes, Tuesday could be likely.

Sunday is too soon (he won't want to be too eager), Monday is first day of working week (most people are recovering from weekend/back to work blues), so Tuesday is probably about right. Smile

Lweji · 27/04/2014 20:50

How have you been in contact before, and how frequently?

conistonoldwoman · 27/04/2014 21:07

For the past two weeks by email..one message a day with the odd day without a message

Lweji · 27/04/2014 21:25

I'd expect message by tomorrow and would consider moving on if there wasn't one with a good explanation.

Does he always initiate contact?

conistonoldwoman · 27/04/2014 21:38

it's been a mixture between who has initiated the contact.
I sent a text yesterday evening to say thank you and he replied straight back saying he'd enjoyed the date.

He'll text you during the week if not on Tuesday. Be patient Wink

LineRunner · 27/04/2014 22:11

Just experience from aeons ago! If you swapped numbers with a bloke on Saturday, he would ring on Tuesday.

Your situation is a bit different though.

conistonoldwoman · 27/04/2014 22:31

Thanks for your reassuring words..intrigued by this magic Tuesday delay! New to all this online dating stuff...bit of an emotional minefield.

It used to be called the three day rule back in the day. First day is too soon, second day would be too obvious, third day keeps you guessing.

Lweji · 27/04/2014 22:38

But that's after first contact, not first date if you were already regularly in contact.

ListWriter · 27/04/2014 22:41

True but maybe he's confused : )

If you were already in regular contact and it's your 'turn' to text, but you want him to be the one to pursue asking specifically about when the next date will be, then I think you just do have to leave it to him to follow up at some point this week.

Unless you just text and ask him. On Tuesday. Grin

JeanSeberg · 28/04/2014 05:54

Bollocks to this 3-day delay. If you want to see him again ask him!

'Hi x, enjoyed our date, are you free on x-day or x-day to meet up again?'

conistonoldwoman · 28/04/2014 14:51

Update: got a text early this am to say hello and how was my sunday etc.
Replied but added hoped to meet up again when we get the chance.
Fingers crossed!

Lweji · 28/04/2014 20:30

He was probably wondering why you hadn't been in touch, since he was the last to contact. Wink

conistonoldwoman · 28/04/2014 21:38

So, officially it's his turn to make contact now but I would love to send him a message. Argh...can't stand all this my turn, your turn ritual!

OP posts:
Lweji · 29/04/2014 00:55

You can still message, IMO.
Just make sure it doesn't end up being a one sided conversation. :)

kentishgirl · 29/04/2014 09:33

Forget any silly rules about how many days and who should ask who.

If you want another date, ask him.

He'll either say yes, or no.

Simple.

There's a lot of game players in OD. Don't get drawn into it, or think you have to play them.

I met OH online. We chatted on phone on Saturday, met for coffee on Sunday, and 2 hours after we went our own ways he phoned me asking me out to see a band on the Tuesday night. Did I think 'oh no, he's too keen, he didn't wait 3 days, oh what a shame'. No, I thought 'great, he likes me too'.

HeyBungalowBill · 29/04/2014 10:25

I get so giddy over dating on MN Grin

I seriously need to get a life don't I?

Achica123 · 29/04/2014 21:27

Thanks for updating - I'd say wait a couple of days then give him a nudge if he doesn't get in touch and if you are keen on seeing him again. It doesn't hurt if you suggest doing something together .... Good luck Wink

FolkGirl · 29/04/2014 22:13

It's Safe Wednesday tomorrow. SW is the day for making the next date.

conistonoldwoman · 29/04/2014 22:23

Have just checked the dating site and he has been online this week so he's maybe checking out other potential dates! :(
Better get browsing myself. ;)
It's a right game..don't know whether I can be bothered it with its ups and downs right now!
