cafecito · 10/07/2013 03:06

^ that's a hug for littlebittykitty, not me eating her

I am so grumpy in weather like this in central London, eurrrgh. It requires a coast, or hills

Minimammoth · 10/07/2013 03:35

Grumpy here too, we have hills, but it's hot sticky and sleepless here.
Hi Jynier, and any other lurkies.
Cafe fingers crossed for the exam lists.

KittyAndTheFontanelles · 10/07/2013 06:55

Hi all, just a quickie with my husband's phone before he goes to work, while littlebittykitty bounces and flops on our bed. Yeah, she's really ill Hmm

The doctor yesterday decided it wasn't chicken pox after all so I'm going back today for a second opinion. She's had typical blisters on her feet since Saturday but nowhere else, she has some tiny pink dots on the rest of her body but they aren't progressing the way they should. It's very odd. The blusters in her foot are reducing without bursting or crusting. Rather atypical. Any ideas?

Mrkitty wonders if it us because I'm still breast feeding the little boo-monster and I have antibodies. Does that sound plausible, medics?

Thanks for the awesome tip ,themidwife, also everyone else. I've bought calamine lotion but haven't needed it yet as she's oblivious. The worst bit is trying to keep her in all day until our garden is shady enough. Wish we could go out to indoor groups.

Sympathies to all those who are uncomfortable. I definitely understand Smile

How's the starlet?

OP posts:
starsandunicorns · 10/07/2013 07:37

Kitty you made me laugh so much as have many a time looked at my dd while they flopping dance jump scale the ceiling while expalining to the doc
Oh yes Doc dd is rather poorly high temp blah blah while dd is bouncing around

Starlet ok had a low day yersterday grumpy moody whinning that we hadnt any baked beans then flopped on kitchen floor aka 18thC woman having a turnthen stormed off to bed sigh dp made a pizza and took ot to her room not sure she eaten it though

Think cos shes used to living in houses her dads house is on 3 floors and now living in a 2 bed flat think she may be feeling closed in plua she seems to be resiating any attempet from us to get her invouled in stuff any suggestions i know depression is a dark hole and she propley reaslied she is here now iyswim

themidwife · 10/07/2013 07:48

Hmmm? Hand foot & mouth Kitty? Has she a sore swollen mouth & red rash near hands too? Just another virus if so & she'll get over it after the high temp & flopping phase.

Oh Cafe - exams in this heat? No!!
I taught 25 doctors newborn life support yesterday (I am an instructor for the Resus Council) - even the registrars' lose the plot & get shaking hands in this heat!

Mini - hope the bumps subside & Starlet settles in. Once she makes new school friends hopefully she'll feel happier?

Hi everyone else! Smile

cafecito · 10/07/2013 10:13

umm. agree re hand, foot and mouth (coxsackie virus) - harmless and should go away within a week

otherwise, parvovirus B19 can present with some strange rash patterns.. she had red cheeks for a bit, right?

umm...

otherwise, thinsg related to chicken pox

like CMV, EBV (unlikely the latter but the former is common but if you had already had it she would already have had it, thus if it's a primary CMV infection you need to find out as you are pregnant and this can cause probs with Christmas pudding) - BUT that's highly unlikely

also, herpes virus 6 - roseola infantum?

the chicken pox breastfeeding suggestion is a bit possible, yes, but not as likely as other viral illnesses

cafecito · 10/07/2013 10:19

themidwife, you should have an online tutorial station, FOAMed etc etc. You should also teach me as I am clueless

thanks Smile

stars, sorry starlet still down, not sure your actions would be able toc hange much at the moment you sound like you've done everything you can to help her. I guess giving her space but

themidwife · 10/07/2013 15:00

Yeah agree Cafe parvo could be a cause - kitty your community midwife can get serology to test for your immunity to all these things from the saved serum from your booking bloods. Now you're past the 1st trimester & not about to give birth, the risks of all are really low even if you did catch it. Thanks

Thanks Cafe - it's reassuring in a weird way to see fairly senior docs have serious brown trouser moments in our testing stations - we all have things to learn! Grin

cafecito · 10/07/2013 21:46

ah I see deleted half my post Confused sorry stars, can't remember what I wrote, it was good, honest

yes I think most docs are terrified of obstetric stuff really, and tiny people, for they are so complicated

the bad news - I weighed myself for the first time in 6 months (on scales in boots) and I have a bmi of 25... (it has always been about 20) no wonder clothes do not fit me, gah

the good news

I seem to have passed my exams Shock

Minimammoth · 10/07/2013 22:21

Yay hrah cafe. Well done you WineWine.
Hope you will celebrate. I have come to.bed early hoping to catch up. Had a horrible night last night. Back covered in hives, and I think we may have birds nesting in the roof space above the bed. They were playing the Kazoo all night I swear.

themidwife · 10/07/2013 22:25

Congratulations Cafe - see you are clever!!! BMI 25? I dream of BMI 25!

Mini - do you need some bicarb baths too? Sounds itchy! Tell those bloody birds to shut the f up!

Minimammoth · 10/07/2013 22:30

Tis driving me mad. As well as Kazoo playing birds. I am going to talk to doc about anything that might help re the cause rather than just symptoms. It's worse in hot weather.

cafecito · 10/07/2013 22:30

got abusive emails en masse in inbox from psycho ex's parents (the ones who visited that time I was on nights) accusing me of being back with him because I haven't answered their messages and telling me they have now cut all contact with me and are removing DS from will. total twunts. no, I haven't replied to your emails because you are negative tosspots and I have been very very busy with exams, since then I have been seeing my son. argh

sorry

ehem

didn't mean to offend with the 25 comment, for me it is bigger than ever except when 9mths pregnant. ah well student spread Grin

thanks for the Wine

I feel very thick, sadly though more than 20% failed the year Sad I feel bad as I know they studied hard, feels unfair!

I shall be nicking your bicarb tip themidwife for my future consultations!

cafecito · 10/07/2013 22:31

helminths cause circulating IgE mini

cafecito · 10/07/2013 22:31

have you always had these allergies or is it more of a recent thing?

themidwife · 10/07/2013 22:38

Bicarb is the answer to almost everything!! Not offended by BMI 25 Cafe - my fault mine is 31! Am losing weight a bit now which is good! Smile

Minimammoth · 10/07/2013 22:42

No not always cafe. Since about 2001. Can anything be done turn it off though? What's helminths?

Minimammoth · 10/07/2013 22:45

I googled it.YUK. Shock

starsandunicorns · 10/07/2013 22:51

Well done cafe !! Whoop whoop

poor you mini hot weather makes my lumps more lumpy

Well took starlet for more cheese string knickers earlier i did offer to buy her big granny ones to complete the vintage look Grin she made tea which was fab and we had a chat about her on off bf while she pucked the eyelahes out of the corners of my eyes which have just started sprouting there bless she even said my grey hair was a nice shade !! Right off to sleeps as up early

themidwife · 10/07/2013 22:51

Double yuk!! Maybe worth investigating Mini?

themidwife · 10/07/2013 22:54

Funny question - but how old are we all? Don't tell me if you do t want to but was wondering what the age range is? I imagine Cafe is the youngest & I know Jynier & Mini have Grandkids (??) but otherwise clueless!!

cafecito · 11/07/2013 00:05

DON'T GOOOGLE IT!

I've decided not to age til I graduate as am mature student (though 21 is classed as mature student.. pfffft)

mini, unlikely to be that.. but if not prev hx of atopy for instance (ie were you asthmatic as a child? eczema?) then there must be a triggering event

cafecito · 11/07/2013 00:12

20something *mutters

can just be an age-related thing, think of all the people who have hayfever who never had it when they were younger for instance. repeat exposure can create allergies.

also , a dip in immune system back in 2001 could have triggered something
