Yes I'm a community midwife & on call for 24 hours from 0830 for home births & delivery suite staff shortages panic and you know how I hate hospitals I do have to work a full day tomorrow anyway doing antenatal & postnatal visits & on Wednesday I do my own midwife's clinic at a local children's centre.

Yes I'll be ok if I get 4 hours sleep bloody Margaret Thatcher pops back into head

Smile
cafecito · 09/04/2013 01:42

Shock themidwife - I am not liking the '24 hours on call' part of this arrangement!

cafecito · 09/04/2013 01:42

we're not insomniacs, we are made of iron! and cookies tea and toast and kittys homecooked curries

cafecito · 09/04/2013 01:44

hope it goes well themidwife, and you don't encounter any sootikins

Midwife99 · 09/04/2013 02:01

Sootikins - you never know in some parts of the patch!!

I've been at it so long I'm used to being on call now & kind of forget about it until my pager goes off & I leak a little bit of wee Wink

Obviously I have some anxiety attached to going to work at all though. Hence not sleeping. Could really do with something delicious to eat!!

Are you on placement Cafe?

cafecito · 09/04/2013 02:26

Sigh. New one starts next week. Geriatrics. And 5 reflective practice mammoth essays on the topic due before end of month. And a research paper I haven't yet started. Sigh sigh sigh

I had to tell a panicked pregnant lady it wasn't amniotic fluid that came out, it was a little bit of wee :)

Do you find it pretty stressful themidwife? Are you all on rio in the community?

cafecito · 09/04/2013 02:48

the most concerning was the Falklands decision, in my book,,, awful

re my dad, yeah, he went in across the picket line, he was in engineering but needed to help some of the miners who had gone in. I never met him.

I'm waffling - jynier, are you ok? Nothing wrong with an electric blanket (make sure it's safe!) no different to having a big squashy duvet or lots of pillows, a hot water bottle, a favourite jumper.. or even a pet, really

Someone asked me earlier what philosophy is My immediate response was cardigans. That's not what I meant to say, my brain got scrambled Grin

jynier · 09/04/2013 03:13

Hi to everyone.

cafe - I am so very sorry about your father. How sad that you never met him!

I remember the events so well; all the police from Salty Town were sent up there. They used to travel in a police van and one copper told me that, in one week, he and his colleagues in the van had earned enough money on overtime to buy 12 houses up there if they wished. They didn't!

Can't get into the bed. It's so stupid!!! The bedroom is very warm so it's not that; just switched on the blanket! Grrrr!

BlueyDragon · 09/04/2013 04:28

cafe, great summary of Thatcher - admiring the will and determination, but not the decisions. I'm a Devonian, so never really saw or properly understood (too young Grin) the strikes and their effects at the time but it was quite interesting to see the difference between my FB feed today (largely RIP to a key figure in politics) and our nanny's (from Yorkshire - largely posts of the dancing on Thatcher's grave variety). The Falklands was a bit closer to home as I'm from a military family as are many of my school friends and I remember vividly the worries of the families of those sent to fight. Sorry to hear about your Dad, what a tragic way to lose a life.

What on earth is with those banana things? Has the person who came up with them been lightly re-educated with a big stick? Sometimes the mind boggles; in this case it's gone out for lunch.

Oh MrsS, come here (((hugs))). Are you sure we can't help? And if we can't, do you have someone in RL to offload to?

DS is out in sympathy with littlebittykitty again - at least tonight he didn't turn all the lights on when he came in to wake us up! That was a bit of a rude awakening last night...

jynier · 09/04/2013 05:04

MrsS - Hope that you will feel better tomorrow/today!

Bluey - You're amazing!!!

Sending best wishes to all fellow insomniacs - am off to try the bed again; it's pathetic, really! Glimmer of hope, though! My little GS has somehow twigged that I can't sleep and said, "Grandma, the next time I come to see you I will bring you one of my cuddly toys ... now, would you like a dog or a teddy bear? You won't be on your own at night any more!" He's only 5!!! My heart melted!

BlueyDragon · 09/04/2013 05:21

Aaahhhh, jynier, how gorgeous of your GS! Get that blanket on and get some kip! I've just heard the first bird of the dawn chorus...

PolkaDotCups · 09/04/2013 05:27

My 7mo has taken to waking at 1.30am for a feed and I just can't sleep afterwards. Too many stresses and things on my mind. Feel exhausted, achey but just can't sleep ...

Midwife99 · 09/04/2013 07:14

Well that was awful! Eyes feel like they're full of sand. Spider cat came in & molested me after I dropped off & then DD got in & squashed me. She's now snoring - will she be at nursery at 8 do you reckon - yikes!!!

starsandunicorns · 09/04/2013 07:59

Minimammoth · 09/04/2013 08:10

I hope you got back to sleep polkadotcups. Do feel free to ramble on about what's on your mind we are all ears and hugs.
It looks like we had a busy night. Hugs to everyone struggling. Will you stop talking about sootikins or I will have to google and mrs has forbidden it. Jynier I am a hot water bottle person, every night, summer or winter, partner or no. It's just a comfort. I also have a beanie dog with squashy feet
Today I shall try to avoid any discussion re Thatcher. It will be a sort of silent retreat.

Minimammoth · 09/04/2013 20:15

Where is everyone? Jynier are you under that blanket already? Kitty Midwife. Hellooo, Cafe, Bluey, Stars. I only have a couple of hours of full consciousness before I will keel over. The printer-computer non communication in my dining room office, has driven me mad today.
I am in need of perking up.

KittyAndTheFontanelles · 09/04/2013 20:27

Hi lovely mini Grin Hope I catch you. I'm lying in a scalding bath before I have to cool it down for littlekitty to join me. We had a park picnic today so a late sleep so now everything is later but she's tearing round in a gorgeous dress looking far from tired.

Hi Kitty/Bitty & Mini!

I am on call after 3 hours sleep - had a preliminary session with a counsellor this evening to really make sense of the last year & my ishoos with my parents etc. so feeling rather knackered!

Might also bath & bed shortly!!

How are you all?

Minimammoth · 09/04/2013 20:35

I am watching sewing bee. Mr mini has been to the osteopath so is wiped out. A g&t is calling, or toast.

Midwife99 · 09/04/2013 20:44

Yeah I'm watching that - DING DONG that professional tailor!!! Wink

KittyAndTheFontanelles · 09/04/2013 20:57

What?! Am I missing a sexy tailor? grrrr.

Bust measurements?

Sounds like a good move themidwife, counselling I mean, not 24 hour on call. Sad
