I thought I would start a new thread, for anyone who might be interested in listening to my waffling on about my struggles with a difficult, overbearing mother. Thank you to whoever it was who suggested the thread title! I've changed my name for something a bit more positive.

All sounds good - and god knows you deserve some days off after your translation marathon!

Jux · 14/04/2013 23:52

Oh please, G2B, please, please can I come and live with you? Am desperate for warm weather!

So glad you had a great w/e.

tribpot · 15/04/2013 07:41

Do you think this whole story has been an extremely elaborate plot to start renting the flat out to MNers who haven't seen the sun since August 2012, Jux? I have my suspicions Grin

Jux · 15/04/2013 08:18

I wish, trib! Grin

CleopatrasAsp · 15/04/2013 10:50

G2B you can really go off people when they start boasting about their lovely lifestyle in the Spanish sun. Grin

wheredidiputit · 15/04/2013 11:05

Tribpot I think you mean 2011 Grin.

GoodtoBetter · 15/04/2013 11:30

Sorry guys. I promise I'm not a Spanish tourist board troll! Grin. Is the weather really bad then? I haven't actually been back to the UK for 7 years. Mostly because of DM Sad.

mummytime · 15/04/2013 11:48

G2b the weather has been awful!
For example, in the south east of England, the trees have no leaves yet, and only some are in bud. We are taking anything in double figures C as a warm day. So today is warm because I'm only wearing 1 jumper.

However, you enjoy the sun, don't worry about us :)

Good to hear you had a good interaction with your Mum.

GoodtoBetter · 15/04/2013 12:17

It's 23ºC atm Grin. It will soon be 40+ though...not so nice.

The snow finally melted on my drive last week. When ds finished school for Easter hols we were under several feet of the bloody stuff and had been on and off for MONTHS.

Jux · 15/04/2013 13:30

Apparently, in the south west we are due more really cold weather towards the end of the month. It's grim, G2B.

My town is surrounded by farms. The farmers are on their knees. Last year the crops were ruined by rain, this year they have barely been able to plant due to the snow and cold. Lambs are being found dead under the snow when it finally melted; heartbreaking.

Stay where you are - don't come back! (and then we can all come and stay with you! Wink)

GoodtoBetter · 18/04/2013 11:42

We're on our way to DB's flat at the coast for a long weekend. Texted DM once underway and she phoned back.."but there are no towels, why didn't you take the big bag of towels that are here". Told her not to worry we had a couple of towels. She sounded a bit shocked we were going without telling her ( and turning it into a giant expedition...take this, do that, bring x back with you). I feel a bit bad and I'm sure she's in a mood now, but I just wanted to get some bits together, put kids in the car and go for once...no stress . Why can't she just say have lovely time see you when you get back ( I said I'd be back Sun and would take pendrive of photos round ) ?

Aussiebean · 18/04/2013 11:47

Just remember this is her issue. Not yours. If she is annoyed that is her problem. Not yours.

Hard I know to put up that wall, but unfortunately needs must.

Have a great time.

GoodtoBetter · 18/04/2013 12:12

I know, I know. She was...I'm not sure if she was just taken aback ....but knowing her I think she was annoyed. I just wanted to decide the night before, bung some bits in a bag (bit more complicated rhan that with a 2 and 5 yr ild, but ykwim) and go..no fuss.

wheredidiputit · 18/04/2013 12:18

have a great weekend good.

Don't forget she done that journey before by herself when she stropped. If she wants bits and pieces to your Db flat then she is more then capable of doing it herself.

2rebecca · 18/04/2013 13:13

It's good you were able to just go to the flat and not run every decision past her. You need to stop second guessing her feelings though "I feel a bit bad and I'm sure she's in a mood now". Why should you feel bad? Why should she be in a mood, your going to the flat doesn't affect her? Why the need to guess what her mood is and always assume the worst?
If you can't just phone her without having a naval gazing session afterwards then you should wait to phone her until you return. She isn't the one making you feel bad, you are by not letting go of the unnecessary guilt and trying to play guess the bad emotion.

GoodtoBetter · 18/04/2013 15:01

You're right. Just hard to break very long held habits and patterns of behaviour. It's great weather though...proper swim-in-the-sea-hot but hardly anyone around, so going to mentally switch off and have fun with DH and the kids.

Yay!! Grin

And we have sun here too! Sun!!!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 20/04/2013 13:08

Our fine start to the weekend has worn out! we have been gardening and the bright shining globe thing in the sky is hiding behind clouds hope it lasts longer Jux and everyone.

Jux · 20/04/2013 23:18

Not a chance!

DH said he'd "Feed and Weed" the lawn today as the afternoon was so nice, said he'd been dying to get out there and do some gardening....

DD and I went and gave one camellia tea, and the other Camellia feed which I found in the shed. Then we walked round the place and discussed what needed to be done and how we might manage it, then dd fed and wed the lawn as dh had gone to sleep despite his utter keenness, nay, eagerness! to get out and do some gardening. It's the same every year.

Tomorrow is supposed to be pants Sad but I'm doing lamb shank with some v nice wine

Lou, hope you're not up all night, but get a good bit of rest.

Speak severely to your little boy
And smack him when he sneezes.
He only does it to annoy
Because he knows it teases.

Can't remember who that's by, but I used to think it was hilarious when I was 6ish Grin

Jux · 21/04/2013 10:36
