Plenty of Fish Twunts

Igetknockeddownbutgetupagain · 05/01/2013 12:05

Have read a few threads lately where some have talked of twunts they met on Plenty of Fish. I have had some corkers, but as I am feeling properly shiteabout dating at the moment, I was wondering if others might feel like cheering me up by sharing their little diamonds.

Mine was the barrister called John, whose photos were years old I realised on meeting him, and the whole date was awkward as hell.
He suggested a second date. I quietly said I didn't feel there would be one. He walked off. He later text 'Bitch'

2 days later - 6am, he text that I'd taken the fucking piss, that next time I should get off my fat arse and buy some drinks. I wouldn't mind if I wasn't a size 8 and had offered to buy them, and he'd declined!!!!

Have you spoken on the phone yet, mrkidd? Would suggest you do that, then if you like the sound if them, ask for a date! Good luck.

HappyNewSkyebluesapphire · 06/01/2013 17:57

If I make small talk with a bloke on POF, it soon ends and they give up, lol. So they are obviously not looking for a relationship...

I was advised to exchange a few messages, but dont get in too deep without meeting, as RL is very different. Have to agree, as got on really well with one bloke, emailing all day every day for a week, then he saw more photos of me and changed his mind!

Insecure24 · 06/01/2013 19:21

I met my bf on pof. We've been together a year, he's taken my toddler on as well as me and we've bought a house together. Best year of my life.

M0naLisa · 06/01/2013 19:41

My cousins met their husbands on pof. Also my sister joined and started talking to a lad who was local(ish) they are now a couple and he is lovely. Very down to earth.

Igetknockeddownbutgetupagain · 07/01/2013 00:18

Thank you for all of the positive stories, as well as the less so...

Have to be honest though, the positive ones are making me feel even more of a lonely spinster Sad

When is it going to happen for me?

One gem (out of many) was a guy about 3 miles from where I lived at the time. His opening message said this

"Can I cum inside you?"

Shock

When I blocked him he created a new profile to message me saying he was going to have a baby with someone by that time the next year and did I want to be the mother.

There are loads more but I have buried them to the dungeons of my mind. If I remember I will post them.

Magicmayhem · 07/01/2013 00:28

can I just add my positive story... i joined POF to look for a man for a friend who was single, just happened to look for my age group out of curiosity Wink saw a lovely looking man, contacted him, we exchanged emails, texts, then phone numbers, we met 2 weeks later, engaged within 6 months, hoping to marry next year... Friend still single... best thing I ever did...

oooo I did get a picture and a message from an old man aged about 70 wearing only a pair of shorts, mowing his lawn... thought maybe he sent his picture to all new comers... did anyone else come across him....

Just a quick thought about giving out things like phone numbers etc to a stranger, I'd opt for setting up a none identifiable Skype account so that should any online dates get a bit odd at least they can be blocked from contacting you (phone numbers can't always be blocked). Same with email, always good to set up an alternative and none identifiable.....believe me the weirdos out there are astonishing and it is way too easy to obtain all sorts of personal data just from a persons name (a few clicks of a keyboard and bingo life history, location, family and friends at finger tips, I know as have done online investigative work).

Other tips include always find out persons real name as you can search news and court records etc to make sure they are ok. Background checking is basically online dating hygiene.

Good advice seventheaven.

One guy I chatted to on the phone a few times (and was a bit iffy about, he was too keen to meet) was in the paper as a registered sex offender. Im still not sure why they had his name in it, but they did and where he lived and his age. So it was definately him.

Thankfully I told him I had seen the paper and could he kindly fuck off and he did so.

financialwizard · 07/01/2013 09:15

iget it will happen when you least expect it. I was temping when I met my husband and the only reason I joined POF is because the woman I was working with was telling me how disastrous her experiences of it were. We were going to compare and write a book.

My husband's friend made a profile up for him initially without his knowledge the same week I did mine. Thankfully by the time I messages him a week later he was happy to use it (he is quite shy) and we started chatting quite quickly, met a week after we started chatting on the phone and the rest is history.

So what I am clumsily saying is that a lot of it is chance.

Lollybrolly · 07/01/2013 09:20

Have a few single mates who have attempted to use Plenty of for dating. We now refer to it as plenty of cock dot com because it seems to be full of saddo married men pretending to be single wanting anyone/anything warm and wet to pop their cock into.

We have had a bloody good laugh (and tears) at some of the blatent nutters they have come across on this site.

From what I have seen its fab site if you just want sex with a faceless stranger and are not fussy about looks age or marital status. Sadly its quite a dangerous site for anyone looking for real love or a relationship.

I am sure there are people who will say they met Mr right on there but too many single mates have shared the same sad and hilarious and ridiculous stories of the oddities they have had the misfortune to meet through the site.

qo · 07/01/2013 09:26

The funniest message I ever got from someone on POF simply said "would you like to try my bumb?" (sic)

Reader, I married him. NOT!!!

oldraver · 07/01/2013 10:53

Whats with the fake photos, surely you would be looking for the wrong man ?

Still, I have a friend who is now a show body builder and very good looking and he has loads of people on FaceBook stealing his pics Grin

Trills · 07/01/2013 10:54

I wouldn't mind if I wasn't a size 8

Really? So it's fine to say that someone should "get off their fat arse" if their arse really is fat?

Er, no. It's rude either way.

mrkidd85 · 07/01/2013 12:32

No I haven't spoken on the phone yet? Not sure why anyone would do that with someone they haven't met. I hate speaking on the phone anyway - pointless small talk about how much of a bitch Zainab is on Eastenders and stuff like that.

kittykat10 · 07/01/2013 13:08

hi
i didnt speak on the phone to my dates as like yourself hate being on phone i think this worked out for best as on an actual date you can fill in silences by discussing stuff that going on around you

badtime · 07/01/2013 13:17

mrkidd I never talked to anyone on the phone before meeting them. Some people I exchanged three or four messages with, some I just kept messaging for ages before we met because it was fun.

I was on OKC, and that is sort-of where I met my boyfriend of two years. Most people I know who have tried OKC are positive about it.

smokinaces · 07/01/2013 13:35

I've had some crackers on pof. Met a couple of nice ones who didn't click and a fair few weirdos

Got a second date this week with a promising one. Just hoping he doesn't turn out married! How would I tell?!

thewizenedone · 07/01/2013 14:06

Have giggled much at your anecdotes! had to look at site and found ex husband Grin can anyone explain the two roses available thing?

SPsFanjoIsAsComfyAsAOnesie · 07/01/2013 14:14

I met someone from a site. He seemed nice and normal.

Went for a date, just bowling and a drink. He wasn't overly touchy ir anything. Seemed to be going well. Told about his child and life. He then said we can either go home together or alone. I opted for alone.

Got home and he text saying he will speak to me tomorrow as was home and off to bed. He also said he would like to take me out for my birthday

My phone then linked to his FB by his number. Turns out he had a GF with a child and she was pregnant!

The best bit was her due date was my birthday!

I instantly text saying taking me out for my birthday is a no go, that I don't want to be left if you have to rush out to your GF in labour! Told him not to contact me.

On my birthday he text saying 'we could have gone out, she hasn't had it yet still' Shock

HeartShapedSaw · 07/01/2013 16:32

Hahaha this thread is funny, I thought my POF experiences were funny.

I once had a guy send me a message that read 'id love to smash 12 inches into you'... and another that said 'get in my bed'

I did start chatting to one of them and asked him if girls really do reply to that sort of shite, and he said usually minging girls do Hmm

I went on a date with someone who looked lovely in the pics but was, im sure, a crack head.

LemonDrizzled · 07/01/2013 19:22

Another good POF result for me, I have a lovely DP I met when his planned 2nd date stood him up 18 months ago. He was online dating for two years before he was lucky enough to meet me and we have bumped into several of his dozens of failed dates! Also at New Year and Valentines they start texting "are you still with Lemon?" cos they let a good 'un get away! There are some crazy women on there too I think!

StuffezLaBouche · 07/01/2013 19:33

When I first tried online dating a few years ago I had a bloke about 25 years older than me messaging to say his wife had recently passed and it would be really, really rude of me not to even message him.

Also, a toothless delight who told me he'd love to slob on a sofa with me, a pirate DVD and a bottle of vodka. My oh-so-supportive friends found that hilarious. (I didn't let on that that sounds like my idea of heaven, but on my own, not some weirdy bloke off the internet)
