Men who don't watch porn

I do not believe all men watch porn.

However I wonder why they dont with it now being the "norm"?

Was there never any interest in the first place? Has it lost its shine? Is it a for feminist reasons?

Or is it more of a case of resisting temptation? As in they do want to watch but guilt and/or morals stop them? Fear of being caught?

We live in a time when we are constantly fed the message all men watch porn so nobody ever discusses those that don't watch it.

OP posts:

I'd like to point out that those against porn have been much more aggressive and inclined to personal attacks and word-twisting than those who support/enjoy porn.

Not one person has ever suggested on this forum that ALL men watch porn. Or YOUR husband is lying to you.

And for the record, I'm not trying to change your mind about it, I just like having a debate about it, I like to hear different people's views although I have to sift through a lot of repressed finger-pointing to find them

seeker · 13/12/2012 11:40

H, andula- you're back! Great!

You forgot to tell us how you can tell whether a woman in a porn movie is vulnerable, exploited or trafficked. Could you tell us now, please?

Andula · 13/12/2012 11:44

No, I suspect you missed my response a few pages ago

Andula · 13/12/2012 11:48

Also, see SolidGold's recent post, some very strong points I think you'll agree.

seeker · 13/12/2012 11:50

When you said because you're talking about free stuff and anyway it's not a valid question because people are exploited in other industries too? Or did you give a sensible answer that I missed?

Andula · 13/12/2012 11:51

A question for you, seeker, if you could be 100% confident that the actors were happy and willing, would you still oppose it? And if so, why?

BlameItOnTheChoirOfAngels · 13/12/2012 11:53

Oooh, more avoidance! Fab.

Andula · 13/12/2012 11:54

No, not really, just interested to know

MamaMary · 13/12/2012 11:55

On this thread there have been many more people criticising porn and/ or saying they/ their DH doesn't watch porn for various reasons (taste, ethical) than there have been porn-apologists. However the porn apologists have taken over, are posting far more and and are shouting the loudest. Why does this happen? Why do they feel the need to prove their point??

You're not going to convince me sorry. The porn industry is rotten to its core.

Agree with AF, thread is a disgrace.

Andula · 13/12/2012 11:56

THE PORN APOLOGISTS HAVE TAKEN OVER..... PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN.... THE END IS NIGH!!!!!!

Andula · 13/12/2012 11:58

Mamamary, have you even read the posts on here?

Morloth · 13/12/2012 11:59

I don't think it is us they are are trying to convince MamaMary, it is themselves.

BlameItOnTheChoirOfAngels · 13/12/2012 12:00

You haven't actually answered any questions, instead asked questions about clothing, etc. I asked how you felt about prostitution, you refused to answer. Instead you have mocked, accused anti-porners of being repressed and our husbands of lying.

You are a treat.

seeker · 13/12/2012 12:02

"A question for you, seeker, if you could be 100% confident that the actors were happy and willing, would you still oppose it? And if so, why?"

I don't know. I can't imagine such a situation. Could you answer the question please?

Andula · 13/12/2012 12:18

Morloth - I'm not trying to convince anyone, my last few posts have mainly been in defence of those of us with an alternative view point or just tongue-in cheek-responses to comments.

Blame - I am against prostitution but it has zero to do with porn (and I know you've tried to link the 2 in previous posts but what your forgetting is that in porn, both/all actors/people are on an equal footing, i.e., they're acting and being paid or they're doing it for their own enjoyment - this does not apply with prostitution)

Seeker - I'm happy that the stuff I've watched involves willing, legitimate actors/volunteers. You have no idea what I have seen so you can't possibly assume otherwise. Now, can you properly answer my question?

Offred · 13/12/2012 12:22

Why do you think there is such a division between prostitution and porn? What is the material difference because AFIWC I thought there were plenty of "legitimate" prostitutes too...

Offred · 13/12/2012 12:23

Why are actors in porn on an equal footing? Equal to whom?

seeker · 13/12/2012 12:25

Andula- I have answered the question. I don't know.

So I presume you only watch porn made by people you know personally?

What about the porn that most people watch? How do you know the woman in those films aren't vulnerable, exploited or trafficked?

Andula · 13/12/2012 12:26

They are equal to each other, whereas in a prostitute/client act of sex they are not.

Offred · 13/12/2012 12:29

But they aren't are they? The only difference is where the money comes from to pay for the sex. It is still the woman being penetrated, still sexual acts being produced for the enjoyment of men, it could be said to have two victims rather than one is all and there is a big issue with the kind of "sex" women pornstars are expected to tolerate which means they aren't equal.

Offred · 13/12/2012 12:31

Provider of service vs payer for service doesn't necessarily equal inequality either. It is the service provided in the sex industry almost exclusively by women to men that is the problem inequality.

Andula · 13/12/2012 12:34

How do I know that the women in porn that everyone in the world watches aren't trafficked? Are you serious? I suppose you think that me saying "I don't know" means I'm colluding in sex trafficking? I've only watched legitimate stuff and I'm comfortable with it. I'm sure you only consume fair trade products and don't buy glossy magazines, otherwise you wouldn't be able to ask such black and white questions.

Now, try again to imagine a porn film that you know wasn't made using exploitation. Just try. What do you find offensive about it?

seeker · 13/12/2012 12:39

Ok. I'll make it easier for you. How do you know that the women in the porn you watch aren't vulnerable, exploited or trafficked?

Your answer will help others only watch similar stuff.

Andula · 13/12/2012 12:40

Offred, have you ever watched Sexcetera, on TV? If not, can I suggest you watch it because you might find there is an entire world of porn and erotica that you didn't know existed. It's not all double-anal you know.

Offred · 13/12/2012 12:40

I've said over and over what I find offensive about it: that it erodes the principle of consent for sexual activity, the content often degrades and humiliates women and promotes gender inequality whether it is "legitimate" or not and it encourages the objectification of women because of the gender bias inherent within the porn industry, this damages intimate relationships between men and women.
