best online dating sites?

Just a quick one. I am on POF, which is a pile of shit. Mostly just horny teenagers and questionable men. It has a rep as a hook up site for sex etc, and this isn't what I want.

So, just quickly, can you suggest some better, more adult (not in a porno way!) relationship type sites that are free?

Thanks.

Sadly not. I've tried most of the decent, pay for ones and they are just as full of weirdos as the free ones. There are nice men on them, there has to be as I have friends who have met lovely men on them. But they're definitely in a massive minority, and in hiding.

VeryProbablyStupid · 31/10/2012 18:48

Lol yeah Im in mass trawling mode.

You would think as I fancy old fat hairy men it would be easy pickings. Not so much!

They are all populated mainly by people (male and female) who are there for a reason (often many reasons!).
There are some decent people, but the fickle nature of dating sites mean that most people never notice or contact them.

VeryProbablyStupid · 31/10/2012 18:55

Hmmm, so am I barking up the wrong tree entirely?

Same shit different wrapping whether its a free or paying site.

I've given up on Internet dating. Don't know what the alternative is at the moment but happily single so not too bothered for now.

badgeroncaffeine · 31/10/2012 19:00

Probably...why not just chat to people for a while until you get a better idea about them. I've never had a problem..and always get what I want, which has been a relationship in the past, and sometimes something more casual.

ruddynorah · 31/10/2012 19:03

I've met good ones on okCupid.

badgeroncaffeine · 31/10/2012 19:06

The problem with OKCupid is that there's so few people on there. Fine if you're in a major city, waste of time if not. Unless you want a purely "cyber relationship"!.

That's why you don't talk for ages, just for long enough that the undesirables move on.

ruddynorah · 31/10/2012 19:10

Ah I am in a major city.

ruddynorah · 31/10/2012 19:12

And yes I don't chat for ages. If I click with someone after maybe two or three days messaging I want to meet them. It's as if I met them in a bar and swapped numbers, a few texts then do you fancy meeting for a drink.

shopafrolic · 31/10/2012 19:15

I met my husband on Dating Direct.....

badgeroncaffeine · 31/10/2012 19:16

Same here...I don't actually mind if they want something casual, as I'm sometimes fine with that. I just find that after 2 or 3 days, you normally find out one way or the other.

VeryProbablyStupid · 31/10/2012 19:17

Ooh ok keep them coming. Im signing up to OK cupid now. Anything has to be better than POF. Although I have befriended a yound lad who is currently sending girls dirty come ons to see if anyone actually falls for that shit!

badgeroncaffeine · 31/10/2012 19:19

You'll find OKCupid is too much like hard work.

VeryProbablyStupid · 31/10/2012 19:20

oh really? how come?

OP posts:
badgeroncaffeine · 31/10/2012 19:26

Answer a few dozen or hundred questions and it will match you with someone in Ohio or something lol Not enough people there.

VeryProbablyStupid · 31/10/2012 19:27

Hahaha yeah it just started asking me questions. Cant I browse?

badgeroncaffeine · 31/10/2012 19:30

Or maybe not, you'll become too cynical to ever succeed then.

ArthurFowlersHauntedAllotment · 31/10/2012 19:45

I genuinely know people who have got married to people they met on eHarmony and GSM. Several people, though all in London.

They all endured months of crap dates first though..

VeryProbablyStupid · 31/10/2012 19:48

Lol yeah. Im sick of bloody okcupid already though!
