The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Still On A Sober Holiday, Waiting For The Summer!

Mouseface · 21/08/2012 20:52

Hello, tis me, Mouse Wink

I'm one of the Brave Babes on the Battle Bus, it's HUGE and never gets full, the doors are always open, 24/7, every single day.

We're a mixture of people who have been drinking for most of our lives and in one way or another, abuse(d) alcohol.

Some of us have stopped drinking every day completely and are taking it One Day At A Time.

Some are trying to control their drinking with medication, willpower, AA, some of us aren't quite sure what we want or where we're trying to get, but we're here, we're all in the same boat Bus, and there's a seat for ANYONE who wants one.

You can find the previous threads HERE and where this Bus first started it's journey, thanks to a wonderful lady, who'd hit rock bottom face first (and she'd admit that to us herself), seeking help and advice from a bunch of 'strangers' on an internet forum........ Smile

Come have a peek, take a seat, we don't bite or judge. We listen and will try to help, best we can.

Hello.....is there a seat free? 10 years of stress have led to a reliance on alcohol as relief. Not outrageous but half a bottle per night Sad

So desperately want to escape the trap if that makes sense. Had 3 alcohol free nights last week as a result of this thread. Trying for 4 this week. Wish me luck Wink

NoNoNoMYDoIt · 17/09/2012 08:07

Hi shwmae - welcome. You sound quite similar to me. I used to drink half to three-quarters of a bottle of wine a night too.

Nat38 · 17/09/2012 08:11

Hi all
Am new here, got recommended it by another mumsnetter!!
Am on day 2 of giving up the drink-cider to be honest!-feels good so far!Smile
I think its been stress & low self esteem/not a lot of confidence that Ive been drinking for so long!
About 5/6 years ago I was drinking an awful lot, dangerous amounts I think. Now I drink too much but not to those levels!Blush
I`d love to get on the bus to offer & receive support.Smile
Have got myself a Brew instead of a Wine for the ride!! Grin

aliasjoey · 17/09/2012 10:18

wow, 3 new passengers! welcome, here are your tickets... I'm driving today unless somebody tries to wrest the wheel from my hands (visions of silver leaping at me like Sandra Bullock as the bus veers dangerously out of control)

Alias thanks for driving today - feeling a little ropey today (drank too much last night) Blush so go easy. Anyhow , new week - 4 days alcohol free is the plan starting today Brew

swallowedAfly · 17/09/2012 11:11

morning!

hey isinde - hope this trip is more successful! Smile well done on the preventative measures. first class only £5 more?? not round this way. good job i didn't know about the free booze before i'd have set myself the challenge of drinking enough to cover the extra cost of the ticket and had to have been rolled off at the other end Grin all inclusive is just a challenge for me - my cheapskateness plus my alcoholism made the perfect combo.

welcome to all the newcomers Smile

have done a brisk walk in the fields today. the couch to 5k thing says you have to have a full day off between runs so tomorrow is the day for that. please god let me stick to it! i've lost 4lbs by watching what i eat and just putting a bit more oompf into my normal activities. doubt i'll be able to lose that again as first week is always the best for loss i find but would like to lose a couple of pounds a week. relieved to finally be able to tackle the weight i put on giving up the booze.

if anyone has any spare 'getting shit done' motivation please send it this way. i'm procrastinating and piddling around on the computer drinking coffee.

shwmae · 17/09/2012 11:19

swallowedAfly wish i could offer some words on procrastination but i too have been working piddling about on here promising to start work after the next Brew. I try to make lists and cross off as i go. Wunderlist is a free online tool that allows you to manage a to do list via computer, smart phone etc

ruralreynard · 17/09/2012 11:38

Good morning babes,
Still in sidecar as small amount of wine left in the house and I KNOW i won't resist Blush
Big welcome to all the new babes you will get lots of support and good advice here Smile
Isinde nice to see you posting again and well done on 5 days AF Smile
joey a nice steady drive would be good, not too fast I don't want to fall out of the sidecar as well Grin
koti thinking of you and hoping you are OK.

aliasjoey · 17/09/2012 11:39

isinde it sounds like you have made some good plans for your train journey. Planning is the key isn't it? It's crazy that they offer FREE alcohol anywhere nowadays. Why the hell do they do that? (rhetorical question)

I've gone back on the mirtaz since I could feel the CFS (or whatever it is) creeping back. I can see this ending up one week on/one week off or something stupid.

Told DH not to buy any wine, I'm going alcohol free for 3 weeks hopefully. Actually, its getting easier to ignore him having a beer now.

SobaSoma · 17/09/2012 11:40

Faire my subconscious must have remembered these words last night everyone who drinks gets sick. Alcohol makes all of us ill. It's a poison.
I dreamt that I was drinking (gooey tasting spirits which I never touch) and knew I'd make myself ill. And lo and behold, when I woke up this morning I had a headache. These words make so much sense; rather than just knowing that the antabuse will make me sick if I drink, I need to grasp that drinking will make me sick, full stop.

Isinde here's to day 6, you old serial offender you :) Saf I take a brisk walk in the fields every morning before work with the dog. It does me the power of good and I've lost loads of weight through walking and not drinking. I even managed a bit of a trot but think running is beyond me - when you've got bangers like mine jogging looks SO undignified! Welcome Shwmae, I've averaged half a bottle a night for years too (although I tend to have a bottle every other night because I'm a binger) and like you say it's not outrageous but it got to the stage where every asepct of my life was being negatively affected. I've been off the booze for about 3 months (with a relapse) and have never felt better.

And Joey thanks for driving!

shwmae · 17/09/2012 11:49

SobaSoma thats encouraging to hear you have been off alcohol for 3 months. It does affect everything in my life ....the worst for me is my mental state. I just dont feel with it Blush. Constantly tired and my memory is shocking Hmm. The worst thing is I feel really weak for not being able to control my feelings. I havent talked to anyone about it either as its embarassing Blush

aliasjoey · 17/09/2012 12:46

shwmae you're not weak, it takes courage and strength to come on here (even though we're all anonymous!) and admit it.

NoNoNoMYDoIt · 17/09/2012 12:47

alias - quick post but taking mirtazapine for one week on / one week off won't be recommended. You need to be consistent with it for it to work properly. Can you go and talk to your gp again (know you have issues there but...) and try and get something that works better for you?

aliasjoey · 17/09/2012 13:02

NoNo I understand its pretty crazy and will go back to the GPs; I just wanted to sort out whether it was actually doing something, and whether the side-effects were bearable... am pretty fed up of the doctors (as they must be of me!) have been twice with DDs rash in the last week...

dementedma · 17/09/2012 13:09

another serial offender here, waking up bleary eyed in the sidecar...
Day 1 - AGAIN

swallowedAfly · 17/09/2012 13:17

aj - adding an ad is like having brain damage as the brain scrambles to rearrange its functions around the new levels of neurotransmitters - that's why the side effects are the weeks when you go on and the weeks when you come off - the side effects really are your brain scrambling around to adjust. coming on and off and on and off is like applying a blender to your frontal lobes.

Glad to hear you are back on the wagon kotinka. We have been worried about you

I am ill. Bleurgh. Just a virus but ongoing since thurs and am fed up as I can't run which is making me very grumpy. Just spent DD's nursery session (which is my usual time for running) shivering in bed. AngrySad

Nat38 · 17/09/2012 16:07

Is it normal to fall into a habit of drinking aswell as enjoying it? & then disliking the fact that youve had a drink when youve said you wouldnt?<img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Hmm" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/hmm-PR4o6B1t.png"><img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Confused" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/confused-DVrVQwAF.png"> Did anyone understand that?<img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Blush" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/blush-Brh13p-7.png"><img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Grin" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/grin-D7Eg_B6y.png"> I think for me, drinking is a lot of habit in the week! Its what Ive done for such a long time, although I have cut back a lot over the last 5 years<img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Blush" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/blush-Brh13p-7.png"> Day 2 & Im missing the "habit", I dont particarly want a drink but.........I dont know what Im trying to say really<img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Blush" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/blush-Brh13p-7.png"> Just glad that Ive made the decision to quit & join up on here!! Nat38 · 17/09/2012 16:10

NoNoNoMYDoIt hope you feel better soon!
What happens when this thread gets full?? Do you give title of new thread so it`s easy for us all to find??Confused

Fairenuff · 17/09/2012 16:51

Mouse usually sets up a new thread and puts a link on here. But we must always fill this one up first so that we don't leave anyone behind Smile

Hello and welcome to all the new babes. I'm madly busy here at the mo' so will catch up with you all later.

Isinde good luck with the train, you never give up trying do you? I admire that in you Smile

Fairenuff · 17/09/2012 16:54

Nat stick with it. You just need to introduce some new habits. Try to change your routine. Maybe eat a little earlier than usual. Have some sweeties to suck on. Don't sit in your usual place. That sort of thing. And give us a shout if you think you're wobbling. Those cravings can be strong but they only usually last about 30 minutes or so. Just keep telling yourself it will pass.

Back later x

aliasjoey · 17/09/2012 19:41

hello ma did you find your cat?
