The Brave Babes Battle Bus - All Going On A Sober Holiday! <crosses fingers that it stays sunny>

Hello, tis me, mouse Smile

Welcome to The Brave Babes Battle Bus, grab yourself a seat, they're really comfy and a Brew, oh and a home-made chocolate chip Biscuit before they all get eaten!

We're a Bus full of alcohol abusers/addicts, some of us say it out loud, some whisper it and some aren't ready to say it at all just yet.

That said, there are a few of us who just have the occasional drink and that's something that they can handle. There are a few of us who must NEVER have another drink because that first one will lead to many, many more which will only ever end badly.

We're open to all....there are no requirements to join us on our journey to sobriety, there's support, great laughs, tears and tantrums here and that's just me!!! Grin

If you'd like to see how we got here, follow THIS LINK

Afternoon, tis me, Mouse

Thank you all for the kind words of encouragement and support, I don't post about my woes to get attention or sympathy, I post them to get it all off my rather ample chest so that DH, DD and Nemo don't cop it!! Grin

I just wanted to post a quick doc update and then will read back Smile

I had that glass of wine as planned and whilst it helped to quicken the effects of my meds, it did leave me with a stinking head this morning. Just one glass! Clearly, my body is not used to strong reds anymore.

Which is cool with me Smile.

Fire - I am 10 minutes away from HERE It's one of the best hospitals in the UK, if not further because of the skill levels of the surgeons and specialists on hand.

Most serious RTAs end up there. When I saw my physio for the first time, he asked if he could use my details as a case study but that was for SPD (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction) so he concentrated on that as they were unaware of my spine problems at the time.

My GP has put me on some similar drug to Pregabalin (which I had to stop due to the stroke like symptoms I got with it!) it's Gabapentin. I'm starting on a very low dose again and working up slowly.

He's swapped the morphine MST for another brand (Zomorph). The only difference is that I have them all the same colour and they save £££s on the NHS which to be fair I'm all for as there's no way I'd be able to pay for all of these treatments.

I'm happy with that for now, he said to me that there really is nothing more that we can do but 'manage' the pain. He suggested making sure that I was still in the system with the chronic pain management team at the above hospital and to let them know what the spinal surgeon said.

Right, off to feed everyone and have a quick catch up before Nemo's nurse arrives. xx

thanks for that link saf

According to the GP, Vitamin D deficiency is less than 20, 'insufficiency' is 20-50, normal is over 50. I scored 49.5 Confused

Still not convinced its that, but have megadoses to take and will see how we go!

mouse glad to hear Seth is back home! Am away on holiday this evening, so will wave to you on the way back from Wales on Friday!

venuesandmarathons · 07/08/2012 13:50

joey a repeat prescription for a holiday somewhere with gentle sunshine might be an answer? Grin

Mouseface · 07/08/2012 13:51

Joey - we may pass each other as we're off to Anglesey on Friday. I can't wait. I just need a few different walls to surround me when we're inside, with the sea all around when we're outside. It's a gorgeous little haven.

Where are you going? [nosy] Wink

Saf - i always find it odd celebrating my parents anniversary because i spent my whole childhood wishing they'd split up

Sad

My bio father left when I was 2 and always blamed my mother until I was older and started to have relationships of my own. Now I applaud her for putting up with him for as long as she did and I'm so very pleased that they didn't stay together 'for the sake of the children'.

Re vitamin D deficiency, I know that vitamin B is also crucial if you like a drink or seven. The lovely venus has a whole list of reasons why.

I take a good multivit and also vitamin B complex. Milk thistle is also good for your liver.

Nemo's nurse is here, back son xx

swallowedAfly · 07/08/2012 13:58

free liver supplements are dandelion leaves! seriously you can just pick some, wash them, steep in boiling water and drink.

venuesandmarathons · 07/08/2012 14:01

Just read that article, and was struck by most alcoholics equate 'going to sleep' with 'passing out'. How true. Now that I've stopped passing out of a night-time, I've had to re-learn how to sleep well and properly. It's taken a long time to re-learn how to fall gently asleep, and to stay asleep; and even longer not to panic if I'm awake in the wee hours of the morning, and to go and read a book instead - reminding myself that at least in the morning I'll only be a little tired, not sick and shaky and hungover.

Silver66 · 07/08/2012 15:13

Right Babes

I have been sober for 6 days now and am flying to France in about half an hour.

Two weeks away on my first sober holiday.

And you know what..........I can't wait Grin

I may not be on here in the next couple of weeks but I will certainly be reading.

Stay safe my lovelies.

Fairenuff · 07/08/2012 15:30

Just got back from the supermarket and guess what caught my eye. Chocolate wine!

Never seen that before. It's red wine with dark chocolate flavouring, so it says on the bottle. As if there wasn't already enough marketing and advertising to make people think they need to drink to have a good time Shock

Fairenuff · 07/08/2012 15:50

Have a great holiday Silver Smile

aliasjoey · 07/08/2012 16:14

going to Lake Vyrnwy (mid-north-Wales) which is not exactly guaranteed sunshine, but looking forward to a nice break Smile

S'pose I ought to start packing...

Oh, I was in M&S earlier and not only didn't buy any wine - didn't even think about it! Not sure what my drinking plans are for the holiday... I'm thinking maybe not have any wine during the meal, wait till after?? It will be hard - but worth it - already discovered how good it feels to drink less.

dementedma · 07/08/2012 16:27

thurso1 · 07/08/2012 17:17

By the way Ma Did you ever watch "Malcolm in the middle" the one where the mum has a really sexy enthusiastic reaction to her Dh wearing a tool kit?
Better not wear the ticket machine indoors Grin

aliasjoey · 07/08/2012 17:52

We're off! We're off!
We're off in a motor car!

I promise NOT to stay up drinking after DH goes to bed

Byeee

thurso1 · 07/08/2012 18:00

Have a lovely time joey, the weather is getting better over the next couple of days, I think.

notdrinking · 07/08/2012 19:25

Day 2 is a little harder as I had to pop to the shops to buy milk a little while ago which is my 'picking up wine' trigger. I know that I am not going to drink but I quite fancy it. I am going to watch the Olympics with several glass of tonic water and a bag of haribos.

swallowedAfly · 07/08/2012 20:08

sounds like a good week then thurso Smile

have a lovely time joey and silver.

have had a very lazy day today. must be more productive tomorrow!

aiming for an early night here.

night all x

waypastwine0clock · 07/08/2012 20:10

Hey all, just seen this thread and i think i should jump on!

Had a couple of weeks recently when i was totally sober and it was fantastic. Really, i felt great, but its soooo hard to stay with it......

I really wonder how other people find it so easy.

dementedma · 07/08/2012 20:32

way past
No-one on this bus finds it easy I can assure you.

Mouseface · 07/08/2012 21:04

Evening, tis me, Mouse

Way - I really wonder how other people find it so easy.

Hmmmmm, not 'easy' as such, I just find myself, my body, my life, my moods, my cravings, my worries, my troubles and my children easy when I'm sober.

Getting sober and staying sober if far from easy.

Grab yourself a seat and see what you think after a couple of journeys. Smile

Night Saf xx

My fecking phone has died. I am soooooooooooooooooooooo not happy that 2 days before going on holiday, I have to go into town, leaving my lovely little village behind and get it sorted.

On the plus side, I get my brand new car tomorrow Smile.

Silver - have a lovely time. Do what you need to xxx

Joey - and you!

Right, CSI time.

Night all xxx

Silver - brilliant, just brilliant. You know how important you are to my sobriety (Bristol Airport - Xmas 2010) and so I delight in every single second that you are sober xxx

venuesandmarathons · 07/08/2012 23:54

ma .... .......when my dd2 was very young we were driving behind a bus with notice which said £7 per hour to drive this bus. dd2 said 'that's not much that we would have to pay for me to drive the bus'... So I said ... err no.. they pay you £7 per hour to drive the bus.... dd2 [in complete astonishment] they would pay someone to drive a bus? ...
