You broke me now I can't feel anything...

I used to play this soooo loud in the car on my way home to remind myself not to love him anymore Sad

Think I might have reached the other side as realised tonight I hadn't played it in ages.

What song gets you through the seperation process?

I've been playing lots of Alanis Morissette since my h and I broke up a week ago. Especially one hand in my pocket or you oughta know.

It's quite fiesty and empowering! I can't bare sappy stuff right now, I feel shite enough already.

Hidinginthewoods · 25/02/2012 21:19

I love Hand in my pocket... a real shouty song, sort of therapeutic singing Smile
My angry song I played, before I gave him a 2nd and 3rd and 4th chance, was circle the drain by Katie Perry, god I got a sore throat singing that in the car.
It really said how I felt about his dependency issues.

Adele is getting me through right now. Most of her songs on 21 actually.
And Gotye featuring Kimba 'Somebody that I used to know'.

And anything that I liked before we ever got together (so anything over 20 years old).

BuckBuckMcFate · 25/02/2012 21:24

Ex Lauryn Hill

antlerqueen · 25/02/2012 21:28
this is the one for me

waiting for that feeling to come :')

Hidinginthewoods · 25/02/2012 21:51

antlerqueen I love that one. It's so personal isn't it teenage feelings again feel too old to have to do this all again.
When I 'listened' to Broken Strings again I actually had to pull the car over as it just all hit home what was happening Sad

separated I hadn't heard that before, it's so weird how the sentiment we feel is expressed in song, it's so odd, the whole sep process... one minute we're sleeping together and sharing intimate details/dreams and then we're arguing and hurting each other. " Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over..."

I think today I realised I needed to be grateful and remember the good days, because there were plenty.

(Not having your DC's at weekends is so tough) Sad

Come Here My Love by Van Morrison. I couldn't listen to anything loud or insistent for quite a long time. Songs like this reminded me what the good parts of relationships can be like, which I needed - but it took me 18 months before I could even contemplate a date!

Bogeyface · 25/02/2012 23:04

Carrie Underwood - Before He Cheats.

Lueji · 25/02/2012 23:48

More of a Pink girl.

So what?

Only I'm not a rock star. :) and I kicked ex out

Onesunnymorningin2012 · 25/02/2012 23:53

Prodigy - No Good

Kaiser Chiefs - Every day I love you less and less

izzyizin · 26/02/2012 00:04

I recommend the oldies but goodies:

Positively 4th Street - Bob Dylan

Maybe You're Right - Cat Stevens (aka Yusef Islam) choose the version where he's playing piano on youtube

and Joni Mitchell's 'Both Sides Now' for a philosphical cheer up after a fuck up.

Amychanger · 26/02/2012 00:11

Lueji snap

DD keeps playing this for me in the car :) and singing at the top of her voice, but she doesn't quite understand what it all means!

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 26/02/2012 00:12

The miseducation of lauryn Hill kept me strong and believing in myself years ago when leaving ex.

Hidinginthewoods · 26/02/2012 07:34

Amychanger - my DS learnt some rather depressing/shouty lyrics in the car lol
mostly he makes the words up so do I

different mood different song, though Radio is a bit challenging as sometimes a song comes on and I think " I could really do without hearing this song today ", music can spoil the mood too

Nothing Better by the Postal Service is a good one.

LiarsWife · 26/02/2012 22:19

Onesunnymorningin2012 You beat me to the KaiserChiefs song Grin

I heard 'I will survive' the other day and I heard it with a new understanding about what it meant

izzyizin · 26/02/2012 22:28

The lyrics to Gloria Gaynor's 'I will survive' are well worth repeating here:

First I was afraid
I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never live
without you by my side
But I spent so many nights
thinking how you did me wrong
I grew strong
I learned how to carry on
and so you're back
from outer space
I just walked in to find you here
with that sad look upon your face
I should have changed my stupid lock
I should have made you leave your key
If I had known for just one second
you'd be back to bother me

Go on now go walk out the door
just turn around now
'cause you're not welcome anymore
weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
you think I'd crumble
you think I'd lay down and die
Oh no, not I
I will survive
as long as i know how to love
I know I will stay alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
and I'll survive
I will survive

It took all the strength I had
not to fall apart
kept trying hard to mend
the pieces of my broken heart
and I spent oh so many nights
just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry
Now I hold my head up high
and you see me
somebody new
I'm not that chained up little person
still in love with you
and so you felt like dropping in
and just expect me to be free
now I'm saving all my loving
for someone who's loving me

There's another song that'll always get me on the dance floor and that's the Weather Girls' 'It's Raining Men' Grin

As I've said, you just can't beat the oldies but goodies for telling it how it is.

rightchoice · 26/02/2012 23:10

Teresa Brewer - Got Along Without You

GOT ALONG WITHOUT YOU BEFORE I MET YOU
GONNA GET ALONG WITHOUT YOU NOW

rightchoice · 26/02/2012 23:16

Good folllow up; Fairground Attraction; ITS GOT TO BE PERFECT....

Don't want half hearted love affairs
I need someone who really cares.
Life is too short to play silly games
I've promised myself I won't do that again.

It's got to be perfect
It's got to be worth it
Yeah.
Too many people take second best

But I won't take anything less
It's got to be
Yeah
Perfect.

Young hearts are foolish
They make such mistakes
They're much too eager to give their love away.
Well
I have been foolish too many times

Now I'm determined I'm gonna get it right.

Prforone · 27/02/2012 00:23

Rolling In The Deep - Adele - is the current fave blaring from my stereo. That and Jar of Hearts - Christina Perri. Very therapeutic!

tropamo · 27/02/2012 00:43

"What's Up" by Four Non-Blondes and "Jar of Hearts."

iCANdothisiCAN · 27/02/2012 00:58

On a country road by James Taylor
"i'd have to be some kind of natural born fool to want to pass that way again".

"i can hear a heavenly band full of angels and they're coming to set me free"

Good ridance by green day.
"another turning point, a fork turn in the road.
time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go.
So make the best of this test and don't ask why".

"it's something unpredictable that in the end is right"

Between them helped they me stick with my decision to leave.

Bucharest · 27/02/2012 09:36

Startingagain88 · 06/04/2012 13:29

Bucharest....love the stone roses! :)

I wasn't listening to music much after EXDP left as i found it too upsetting...at first (four weeks ago) it was 'If you Wanna' by the Vaccines

Today on one of the music channels on the TV...saw Christina Aguilera's 'Fighter' love the strength of her voice and the metamorphosis theme of the video.

I havent complied my 'F**K off knobhead' list yet, i better start working on it:)

AKissIsNotAContract · 06/04/2012 13:38

Kelis 'caught out there'
Blu cantrell 'hit em up style'
