What a strange man you are Mr Widower. I presume that was a rhetorical question.

I am widow and men have sometimes made daft comments to me about money, but I just bloody well ignore them. I suggest you do the same.

If you are actually a widower, what that experience should have underlined is that life is short and to be enjoyed. It did to me, anyhow.

Wanders off to pick daisies, and reject being bitter and twisted, although sometimes it is tempting

Boudoiricca · 07/01/2012 18:44

OP, today I have learnt from MN that some women are quite astonishingly impressed by men who can perform "difficult card tricks".
Perhaps this is an avenue worthy of further explorarion to add to your current skillset of "rich (alledgedly)".

HTH

Not to mention those who are impressed by petty criminals landed gentry in the form of allotment holders, Boudoir Grin

What vintage do you serve with fish fingers dinner, OP?

Anniegetyourgun · 07/01/2012 20:06

A bloke wouldn't necessarily have to have a job for me, I'm old enough to date pensioners. Oh wait - I don't want a bloke at all. So that's all right. (Or a woman, before you all get excited.)

TongueTwister · 07/01/2012 20:09

Why is everyone laying into mrwidower? Maybe he just wants to vent?

totallyscunnered · 07/01/2012 20:11

The thing is, when you find the right person you just know, like the thread here about people compromising when they married.

I'm with my BF now and it really is totally different to what I expected - he makes my stomach flip in a good way every time he walks in the room. And money is damn all to do with it.

Anniegetyourgun · 07/01/2012 20:15

TongueTwister, he insulted half the human race in one fell swoop with his opening remarks. That calls for a hard time, don't you think? However, some posters have gone to the trouble of making constructive comments and suggestions, so he can take something positive from this thread once the "all women are like this" attitude takes a hike.

TongueTwister · 07/01/2012 20:21

He could just be angry, gold diggers come in both sexes are are equally loathsome. However, if you flash your cash, it's more likely you will attract one...

MilitaryWag · 07/01/2012 21:46

Are you assuming all women are looking for men with money? Bollox. I found a drop dead gorgeous fella in uniform. Couldnt give a shit if he had money or not.

vitaminC · 07/01/2012 22:02

I certainly don't think of myself as a golddigger, but given the debts my ex left me after our divorce, there's no way I'd even consider dating someone else without first ensuring he was financially solvent and responsible!

OP, are you sure you're not being oversensitive about this?

solidgoldbrass · 07/01/2012 22:08

A for the knobboid OP. Grow up mate. IF you've nothing else to offer then of course women are going to wonder about money.

I don't care about solvent necessarily, own house and shit. I just want someone who has a job, i don't want to live with them so don't need to know even what they earn.

BasilRathbone · 07/01/2012 22:32

I don't want security or money.

Just bloody good abs and staying power.

And yes, cunnilingus ability is also good.

Can you offer any of these to women MrW?

What can you offer apart from your money and security?

JustHecate · 07/01/2012 22:42

Not every woman does look to a man to stump up the cash. I don't believe it's most women or even a majority. There are also very many 'cocklodgers' - men who find a woman and bleed her dry. There are leeches of both genders.

I, like most women, have always paid my own way in relationships and now I am married, everything goes into one pot and we both own everything jointly, so my money his money doesn't come into it.

If you are finding that every woman you attempt to have a relationship with just wants your money, I suggest that you take a look at what you are going after in a woman. Why are you attracted to what you call the 'gold digger' type?

WandrinStar · 08/01/2012 11:57

Well, having briefly lived with the KING of all cocklodgers (who ran up huge debts in the short time we were together and sat at home all day sourcing sneaky internet shags while I did TWO jobs to keep a roof over our heads after he had been sacked for sexual harrassment), I have to say that whilst money isn't everything, after that horrid experience "financial sanity" went on my checklist for potential suitors.

Also OP you should be aware of what you portray, as others have said. In my brief foray into internet dating, I was confused by the number of guys who posted pictures of themselves swanning about on yachts, leaning on Porsches etc and then moaned about gold-diggers. If you want people to be attracted to you on your own merits then don't advertise the fancy accessories!

WibblyBibble · 08/01/2012 20:48

I've normally found that men who can't find women who are interested in them regardless of money are going exclusively for women who are way out of their league physically. HTH.

JustHecate · 08/01/2012 21:05

'security comes in many forms'

Yes but security's not always what I want.

I know i can always earn a living so I don't really give a crap about a partner's money. And if 'security' means 'absolute fidelity and oppressive jealousy from someone I don't fancy' then it looks an awful lot like 'security' in a 'Group 4' kind of way. Do you enjoy life?

Having married twice, i can say that I would look in a hypothetical new relationship for a man with quite a few real friends, that he actually liked, spent time with and kept in touch with spontaneously. Do you have that, OP?

mrwidower · 10/01/2012 10:38

you lot are very funny (in a good way) - glad to have the ribbing from normal people - thx

so - where do the 30/40 mums find your matches - (no internet advice thx)

tesco, sainsburys - who`s going to be first to dish out my next bashing

certainly dont think its like the movies getting chatted up in the fruit and veg section or has that ever had that happen to you for real......

OP posts:
snuffaluffagus · 10/01/2012 10:47

I got chatted up in the frozen aisle once.. unfortunately the guy was about 50 years older than me but you've got to give him points for trying.

lovelydogs · 10/01/2012 11:40

No not in my experience MrW, you've got to join a dating site, Meetic, Gaurdian soulmates, that sort of thing. Match if you want a quick shag. Or speed dating for quicker results. Can all be a bit daunting but fun once you're used to it. Good luck.

And a man who has children and is a good dad is very attractive.
