Mouseface · 12/07/2011 15:47

Hello, I'm Mouse Smile

Welcome to the Brave Babe's Bus. This is a bus full of drinkers old and new, sober and not, and those who are somewhere in between.

We are all at different levels of sober so you can bet that one of us has walked in your shoes.

If you want advice and support then you're in the right place.

Come take a seat or just lurk, we're happy to have you along for the ride. Smile

And here is a link to the last thread so you can catch up on the journey so far HERE

Oh that's so good to hear.

Now you've taken a break, treat yourself to something non-alcoholic and a lovely meal. What are you having for dinner?

MissPerrier · 28/07/2011 19:45

Thornrose My son has Aspergers, I know how difficult it can get. We also spent an entire summer on wasp/fly/anything that buzzed alert. My ds is 19 next month, things do get easier. Your dd is 11yrs, so her hormones may be starting to kick in. Can you get a break, I used to find even a couple of hours used to help me regroup.

dementedma · 28/07/2011 19:46

thornrose - can you call anyone to come and help out? are you alone with DD?
helplines are for the parent as well as the child, don't be afraid to ask for help.
Will DD watch a DVD with you? Play a game on the computer? Read a book?
sorry if these are all stating the bleeding obvious, don't know what to suggest.

thornrose · 28/07/2011 19:47

I've marinated chicken in Peri Peri sauce. A good start. I'm having a large glass of water now.

Fairenuff · 28/07/2011 19:51

Sounds lovely thornrose

I'm having carbonara with garlic bread (after already have pasta for lunch) but DH offered to cook it so I'm happy to eat it Grin

thornrose · 28/07/2011 19:53

missp her hormones are well and truly kicked in, she had het first period at 10, bless.
demented stating the bleeding obvious made me laugh.
Unfortunately I relocated to new area last summer and have no-one "on call" which is a real issue.

thornrose · 28/07/2011 20:09

Just for light relief here is a list of her fears, The news, E Coli, diabetes, skin cancer, swine flu, dogs, flies (and all that buzzes) using the toilet (because flies are attracted to poo!) That's for starters.

thornrose · 28/07/2011 20:14

Cucumbers (e Coli) white rice (must be mixed with gravy/sauce) most smells (especially eggy ones) water (on face) hair combing, nail cutting.

Fairenuff · 28/07/2011 20:15

All of those fears are in 'the news' so it's good that she doesn't watch it I suppose. It is scary thinking about all the things that could happen. She is obviously an intelligent girl who, with the right help, may learn to overcome some of these anxieties. But how difficult for all of you to live with them. Especially using the toilet (no avoiding that really, is there). Does she have 'exercises' to help when she becomes very anxious?

thornrose · 28/07/2011 20:24

Sadly her dad died last year so that has added to her illness phobias. She has had s course of CBT but the effect kind of wears off after a while.

thornrose · 28/07/2011 20:27

She avoids the toilet resulting in severe constipation. She's a troubled little soul.

Merlin, I'm not sympathetic always. I'm often a raging haridan who drinks too much just to blot out some of the madness. I'm so tired of it all

(Quick hello to say that leperwoman is on the mend. I am on far stronger abs now and steroid cream; dc back tomorrow. I looked back on my old posts and thought they looked a bit dramatic. In fact the swathes of skin hanging off were just like the sunburn I used to get as a child before parents were sun aware. I just let it dry. It is all drying out and I am seeing my GP again on Friday to monitor it. If anyone would like a streptococol infection, pm me and I will sent you my plasma/pus sodden cotton gloves. @Mouse; dp is being a LOT more open to listening but I have to say that the last two weeks have been a fairly drastic way to go about it. I do not know how I got infected and nor do any of the doctors, in case you were wondering. Still looking like a freak and (literally) no one will go near me. The steroid cream is helping a lot with the itching. I cannot tell you how grateful I am to all of the many NHS staff who I have seen since last Sunday. I hope that people like noteven feel appreciated. Any typos in this post are my own fault because I am not wearing the cotton gloves anymore.

There was a wise woman called Venus
From booze she did try to wean us
She sure is well nifty
And now she is fifty
I hope that she knows she's a genius.

(Hard to do a limerick without using penis; hope you understand!)

SAF I know what you're saying and I love the way you say it.
In the moment the drinking is what it is. Tomorrow the guilt and recriminations will be all consuming. Yes my patience levels will be affected tomorrow. I know this, but "in the moment" feels so good Sad
Well done on 5 days.

Fairenuff · 28/07/2011 22:02

Saf honestly 5 days is bloody brilliant. Grin

Don't worry about the eating, it's all nourishment. There's an alcohol unit calculator online which will 'convert' your booze into burgers and pizza so in terms of calories, when you were drinking it was worse for your diet as well as your 'well being'.

Glad you're on the mend Jemima. Love the limerick Grin

Hang on in there thornrose

How are you doing Mouse? Sending love x

thornrose · 28/07/2011 22:04

When I stop drinking I just eat so much sweet stuff. I think I eat the calorific equivalent to wine in sweets which is annoying Smile

thursomuchtolookforwardto · 29/07/2011 07:58

Hello my friends,

Thornrose I hope that you are ok this morning. Sorry I wasn't around last night, but I see other friends were. Crikey, it's a relief just to type it all out sometimes isn't it? Have you a plan for today? Are you going to phone the support team, maybe try to get your appointment brought forward? It's a long summer holiday for you to deal with on your own. Sending love. xx

Saf Day 6, then. Well done, you Grin.

Jemima glad you're on the mend.

Venus Did you have a lovely evening? Have you woken up any more decrepid than you did yesterday Grin. No, you are still as young and lovely as ever, did you smoke the pipe?

Mouse Happy Anniversary, I'm sending you my love and thoughts. You are a fabulous person, and a wonderful Mum, and you know how you want to be. I think you are ready, but I know that you know that, sweets. xxxx

I am out this morning, back later.
Hello to all those MIA! How are you?
xxx

notevenamousie · 29/07/2011 09:02

Morning everyone,

thornrose hope you can look after yourself today. Lots of sweet coffee or tea (even if you don't usually take sugar) and little and often. You have it tough, none of us is going to deny that. Life sounds really hard and nobody here is going to blame you for wanting that familiar anaesthetic. But, it doesn't really sound like it is working for you any more - would that be fair?

Mouse I wonder if you are crossing that line towards being not able to stop for Nemo? And needing to stop for you? I think we stop when we've had enough - I needed to keep being dragged to my knees for long enough to know that when you think you've reached your rock bottom, it can still continue to get worse. I don't know if you're there - is your drinking enjoyable recently? I hope you have a lovely anniversary day and Nemo sleeps a bit better for you tonight and you can have a good time with your DH.

venus I hope the rest of your birthday went well. I too was Grin at pipe and slippers - he's a brave man!

SAF well done on 6 days.

I'm away til Monday down in the West Country so I will see you all after the weekend, love to all x

venusandmars · 29/07/2011 09:25

noteven have a good weekend.

thurso I asked my dd if she had anything that I could smoke in my pipe, and I could see her being really confused between answering that of course she didn't she would never smoke anything, and wondering whether she should offer her old mum something interesting..... Now there's a track I DON'T need to go down.

jemima glad that you are getting the right antibiotics, and thanks for the limerick. I did change my name a couple of months ago to 'penisandmars' but the thought of people shortening it was rather frightening Grin.

obrigada · 29/07/2011 10:31

Morning, in the spirit of honesty, I met a friend after work yesterday for a drink, had 2 Jamesons and diet coke (full bottle of diet coke per drink), went up to her house for something to eat and she offered me a glass of wine, and to my surprise I said I would prefer a glass of water Shock, so we both ended up drinking water.

venusandmars · 29/07/2011 10:44

obrigada I have definitely found that I am now more aware of what I really need, whereas previously my mind had got used to answering 'a glass of wine' to every question. Feeling thirsty - a glass of wine, feeling happy - a glass of wine, feeling scared - a glass of wine. Well done you.
